Although my comment was in response to yours, the last statement was directed at those number of negative comments black folk have made about the images of black America shown in some of Perry's films. Spike Lee has said “the imaging is troubling and harkens back to 'Amos n' Andy". My point is that educated people come to see his movie and not see it in this vein.

I saw "For Colored Girls," very artistic, visual and performed with the upmost care of someone elses work! I smell the aroma of Academy/Golden Golden Award nominations! It's a compliment to have a parody made of you work, this is funny! On another note, Tyler has haters everywhere, dam if does work people like and dam if he doesn't. Money talks, bullshyt walks. Not only is his work making money, he's making a way for black actors to get more exposure, creating jobs and giving back!

@lmvalle I'm not sure what you meant by quality, if it's about his body of work, like any creative artist, quality is subjective and is in the eye of the beholder. Cautionary note on quality : Based on Tyler's fan base in theater, television, and movies his target audience evidently are seeing quality in his work, they still coming to see it over and over again. I would also think he has intelligent, educated and "quality" people in his fan base. As far as quality, he does do that!

You kind of go off topic with the last couple of sentences, since nothing was claimed about the intelligence of his fans. On quality: so did Mantan Moreland's fans.

From a film perspective it is not mainly subjective, but informed by the respective aesthetics of the societal period of the film. As such, the ability to overuse melodramatic sentiments does not indicate quality, though his ability to direct has improved drastically, shown through the performances in this film.

the movie itself was VERY intense and deep. it was realistic and even the celebrities looked human for once, and not glammed-up...pores, acne scars and all were showing, and i'm glad. made the film even more realistic.

It was challenging to make a play written as a series of poems into a story to a film. I understand many African-American women related to the play, the book & thought the movie delivered. You may not feel he's deserving of any awards for this work, however the Academy/Goble Awards is not the People's Choice Awards, it's picked by the industry peers! Deuces!

The movie was outstanding. Many of the comments below are plain ignorant and without merit. Tyler did not directly write the movie. It was based on a play that was released in 1975. I am ashamed of the language used here - it's embarrassing for all African-Americans. This clips is funny, but take it as just that - FUNNY, not a mockery. Grow up.
