  • were can i get steel wool at like at what store

  • Home Depot, Lowes, or the internet.

  • ok ill see if i can't find me some of that stuff

  • I think you cooked it too long.

  • its only 9 volts,

  • 9 volts tickle :-)

    15 volts hurt light

  • IT BUUURNS!!

  • 20 years ago I worked at TYCO toys in Moorestown NJ. Another guy and I discovered (while we were at work one day) that if you take a 9 volt battery and place it on the contacts on the bottom of a race car from those home race car sets that the wheels will spin until the battery is removed. If you connect 2 or more batteries together (by connecting thin pieces of wire wire to the battery AND the contacts on the bottom of the car in the correct polarity) you will burn out the motor in 2 seconds

  • i tried the speaker wire and it didn't work but the steel wool did:)

    \

  • rofl are you in an office?

  • haha yeah at work actually..

  • respect lol

  • where do u get steel Wool?

  • Home Depot ...

  • can stiil burn if the steel wool is wet or it would?

  • yea it will still burn heh

  • Nice lotion by the computer

  • If only we could make a homemade battery-powered heater

  • Anything is Possible SirKarl. If you Build it, They will come.. Or at least watch it on YouTube..LOL

  • that's weird because when I short out a 9v it doesn't do anything

  • boring

  • do u like cut a hole in the battry or does it just go up form touching it

  • Nope, just touch it. That's it.

  • you can't start a fire with ONLY steel wool and a 9volt,you need some paper on top of it

  • I totally agree, you would need some kindeling..

  • steel.... wool, the fabric is what burns

  • Can this catch on fire by itself without anything but the wire and battery to burn?

  • Brilliant! Next time you may want to try this on the garage floor and not your desk top.

  • it looked like u put ur pubes on it

  • haha gay

  • id rather do it at school where theres lots of leaves and trees :p

  • my priest used to do things to me with a 9 volt battery

  • why does steel wool do this?

  • it's a short circuit. You can do the same with a single strand of speaker wire. Model rocket igniters use the same concept. The battery will get a little warm.

  • my dad showed me how to do that with 6v batteries and steel wool when I was 6.

  • DON'T BURN THE BATTERY!

  • Nothing would happen really.

  • light your pubic hair next.....smart guy.

  • he dont got none thats why he doin that

  • Doesn't conduct electricity, bro.

  • try a 24 volt and see wat will happen

  • The same exact thing. But faster.

  • how about using a capacitor instead?

  • When I read sth. like this I could explode!!! Germany is a great country and it does everythink that suckers like you stop saying that Nazis would have a chance to start a war again...

Thats a real problem in GER! Example: If Nazis would do a crime, the police would shoot them down, BUT if imigrants do sth. the police do NOTHING, because everyone in the world would think, that there is a radical force again!

HITLER FUCKED GERMANY AND ITS FUTURE!!!

  • Crap - not worth the Bandwith

  • take a factory of steel wool and a a duracell 9 volt factory and put them together....

    and BaNg!

  • Lol keep this one on the DL from survivorman.

  • Ha! nice one.

  • Aw, those people saying it's fake are hilarious xD Rofl!

  • Oh, ok.

  • Duuuhhh this i's fake because I i's too much of a dumba's's to try's thi's fo' ma'selve's!

Well for those of us who do like fun little random chunks of science, it was an interesting video!

  • what do mean its fake ?

  • I don't mean anything by it. I was mocking idiots who called it fake due to their complete incompetence. Hence "Duuuhhh", incorrect usage of apostrophes, and misconjugation.

By the time the justification for a statement is "I i's too much of a dumba's's", surely you must suspect that it's a parody of some description.

  • itss BASICALLY a sparkler coz it burns da same type of wayy

  • DURACELL is the only battery that works great with this

  • cuz duracell is win

  • I actually had a physics teacher who used to be in the marines. Apparently in order to lighten up on supplies, a bunch of them were walking around with a 9 volt battery and steel wool, and a couple of them lit themselves on fire when they accidentally put them in the same pocket.

  • steel wool is easy to get... lucky for me i have a steel sheep farm

  • Go piss off Germany again and start another war... go ahead... I dare ya.

  • What has Scotland ever done to Germany? Besides, Britain was far from pissing Hitler off - the country was too busy trying to appease him thinking he might calm down if he got what he wanted.

Anyway, I presume you're posting this comment because you didn't understand my other comments here.

  • amazing...

  • how ironic. i just took the battery out of my smoke alaram to make fire.

  • rofl

  • lol me too!

  • nice

  • what was the green liquid? Lubricating gel? :D:D

  • It is next to his computer.. so possibly :P

  • yeah, its that new gritty kind

  • rofl

  • The science is like this-> The short circuit manifests as excess heat and that what causes it to burn. It's exactly the same as a traditional "blowing". The excess heat causes combustion. It'll work with thin wire but a thick wire will just get really hot and the battery might melt after a long time...

  • Actually it is. You are shorting the battery with the steel wires.

  • This isn't a short circuit, if it was your computer would be a giant short circuit.

  • you have no idea what your talking about

  • Blatant hypocrasy, you dumbshit.

"A short circuit (sometimes abbreviated to short or s/c) allows a current along a different path from the one intended."

Short circuit would be if a bit of electricity zapped from one point to another in your coputer, or if you spill ionized water on a keyboard. Think before you speak.

  • No, you really have no idea what you're talking about

  • It's all god damn relative. A short circuit is basically an electric leap that you didn't intend. INTEND. So really this isn't a short circuit, and it technically isn't one if you want it to because again, it's all relative.

  • BOY scouts taught me

  • lol i used a car battery it went up in flames only cuz i also put flint(magnizium) in the wool

  • flint is completely different to magnesium.

  • if you guys think its fake look at the video in related section on steel wool

  • not fake and this is very tricky to work with cause if you shake it or blow on it it makes it worse and sparks go everywhere

  • this aint fake there many vids showing. if it doesnt work for u then your just a stupid rtrd. all u have to do is make the battery touch the wool; lol

  • Maybe he has teh thick steel wool Like i do.

  • WRAP IT AROUND AN M-80

  • shot cool guy

  • this is not fake :P i know this trick since 1 was 13 yeas old

  • i tried it and it didn't work, that means that it's FAKE!

  • DUDE! Look at a video on my youtube it works!

  • lol it means u did it wrong

  • Lol this is real. We were taught this trick in hunter safety class as a survival tip.

  • Next time you do this you should use a better 3d card or 3d program becuase i can easily see that it's fake!

  • try it for yourself dude...

  • dude we were in class, doing all this stuff with battery's and when this kid but a battery up, he set it on the steel wool in the tub, it started to smoke and we had no idea why, then the firse started, lol it is real

  • Yup, it short circuits the steel strands. the same will ahppen to a strand of speaker wire, or for igniting a model rocket fuse.

  • its real

  • LOL!!

    That's fake!

  • Sorry, Not fake...

  • lol looks like someone tea bagging a 9v

  • thats cool

  • Stupid Boy!

  • Well if you know in advance you will need "survival" gear, it would take up less room, less weight and work better to pack WATERPROOF MATCHES....!

  • this is a good survival idea, good thing to have in a survival bag i dont think les stroud on the tv show survivorman ever thought of this trick you can start a campfire with this

  • He's used it many times.

  • that sure is close to the computer

  • try it with a 6 volt battery

  • where u can get the steel wool

  • the cleaning isle at a grcery store- its used for cleaning pots and pans generally.

  • From iron bred sheep

  • if u put a penny on a 9volt it will puff up[short circut] and leak/explode..

  • no it doesn't. have you even tried it?

  • it herts whaen it gets on your skin

  • ...duh...

  • ...roasted nutz, son???

  • ...boy, that's some long pubic hair! ...man u gotta go see a freakin' doc right away!

  • can't agree more

  • yeah because long pubic hair is cause for alarm.

  • Nine-volt batteries like the kind he used can possibly experience a "melt down" and release toxic fume if exposed to enough amperage, but they cannot explode. The design of the battery itself will not allow it to retain enough pressure to actually explode. I know this because through my years of working for Duracell we managed to test for this type of incident.

  • Thanks you, tell that to knumb nutts over here

  • haha...knumb nuts, i haven't heard that for a long time, funny!

  • A 9V battery consists of 6 AAA sized batteries packed inside. Cut it open and ya save money. Just be careful not to cut too deep. A video shows you how to proceed.

  • in another video with many batts connected together, one DOES explode!!! also, old 9v batts DO bulge, like they are under pressure-it CAN happen!

  • very stupid stunt to try if that battery blows up in ur face dont say u havent been warned!!

  • ummm a freekin 9 volt is not going to blow up. you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that. what are you like 12.

  • im an adult and i have seen someone seriousley hurt doing a stupid stunt like that YES BATTERYS CAN EXPLODE cannt u read the side of the battery?

  • Dude, it's a Friggin 9 VOLT...

Shorting A Lithium-Ion, or a Laptop Battery...Yes, Very Very dangerous.

And Yes Mr Charlie Brown, I can read ..I have a Degree in Physics. My video is intended to be informative, not juvinile.

    Don't Hate..

  • where can u get steal wool?

  • hey man i tryed that but i couldnt get any fire, does it have to be a certain type of steel wool?

  • just keep trying, i had to get it on that sweet spot. try blowing on it.

  • yeah man i had success today, i tied it on the wheel of my bike and it wasnt too bad for a first attempt.

  • pull it apart some..

  • it works :P

  • for those who dont know -.- just get a sos pad, rinse the soap out of it really good, then vua la, steel wool

  • sweet im gonna go fuck smokey the bear and start some forest fires now!

  • Cool I'm going to start a fire now

  • that was prety stupid

  • Hey man that's YouTube

  • Fuckana, A Cheap ass way please the Kidies on the 4TH

  • Thats so cool!
