  • impressive... but go lower.

  • I also saw in this video that the athlete moves her feet back when she is resting on the box to squat the weight back up. That need to be corrected.

  • that is absolutely impressive!!!!!

    especailly for a girl!

lets see some guys do it....they cant even do half of the weight!

    good work!!!!

    Wendler's 5/3/1 yeah?

  • @tntkim Yes, its 5/3/1 at work. Being using it with athletes all summer. have had guys put up 350 and 375 box squats for 10+ reps. Crazy how well its working. We are peaking towards seasons now so everybody has been retesting 5, 3 and 1 rep maxes.

  • Half squat. The box need to be lowered, and they shouldn't be squatting in mushy tennis shoes when they are handling 315 pounds.

  • 16 inches isn't half squat. Sometimes angle makes it look that way in videos....but the box height was measured and 16" off the ground isn't a half squat for anyone but a dwarf. Although i know tennis shoes aren't ideal shoes for squatting these are teenage athletes and they wear what they wear. All it means is she could probably do even more in the "right" gear.

  • @andyhepler Well, that is a lot of weight for a girl to handle with tennis shoes. Might not have been a half squat, but she most definately did not break parallel. Thats is how people get the strongest. You take less weight off of the bar, and have them do very deep squats. Make sure you keep an eye on their form though.

  • Not disputing the shoes. Just saying I run a private gym, I can control their training program...I cant control what shoes they wear. Not everyone will go out and but chucks or powerlifting shoes when they are lifting for athletic performance and....that being said, that is the goal here. Increasing maximal strength. I am telling you its as close to parallel in box squat as you can get. One mat less and she would be below parallel.

  • @andyhepler Check out Joe Defrancos material. He makes a good case for athletes to box squat and also go heavy. Full squats are cool but I am not concerned with being strong just in certain ranges of motion at the expense of weight. Heavier weight will increase max strength better than lighter weight. 135 full squats are not going to make you as strong as 225 + box squats. Just no way around that. Full squats just make you stronger at bottom range.

  • @andyhepler I once hurt my ankle warming up with 225 in tennis shoes. There is a reason why it is unsafe to squat in them. They do not provide a sufficient amount of support to the ankle joint. They also do not give the squatter a steady, stable platform to squat upon. Lifting gear either stabalizes body parts to make the lifter safer.

  • @tdheoembaesl Understood, but again it is what it is. for the most part these athletes dont even wear belts, much less wraps and other lifting gear, and that includes shoes. If I had my choice i would have them do it barefoot and have even less of a "steady stable platform" while developing true ankle and tendon strength ala Martin Rooney.

  • @andyhepler It actually might be better barefoot. Many powerlifters squat barefoot, but I have yet to see one squatting in tennis shoes...
