  • I remember listening to this song as a child in the 60's I was too young then to understand what the song was about...takes me back to my child hood days.thanks for posting.

  • what did the street vendor say?

  • Fantastic! Great great song!

  • Great song. So simple but very erotic.

  • Wow Gene Watson is an awesome singer. I hope to see him one day perform !

  • brings back memories...my mom listening to the radio frying chicken...we'd be singing...life seemed so easier then, it was better, didn't worry like we do now.

  • Gene is what other country music artist seek to be. I love this song. Got a youngster listening to it because I love it so much. I have been in New Orleans many times so I can just see something like that happening. lol Good Gene! hope he is around a long time more. He is super singer. lol Sitting there singing is a rare talent. Good job Gene. Keep it up.

  • I listened to this on KNEW in the 70s. Great memories.

  • Wow, he sounds just as good as he ever did.

  • Amazing video and excellent song !

  • music that just gets all over your soul.. damn i want to pop a beer and i haven't had one in over 5 years. I'm 33 and my brother is 29 and people thinks its the funniest thing we love sitting together listening to all these great old tunes.

  • Cant beat Gene on anything he sings

  • OMG WHERE DID THESE DAYS GO?? Its a dern shame

  • Absolutely excellent.

  • I see that is from TNN, but what was the program that they had all those stars sitting around singing? Does anyone know?

  • @BigTerKC

Gene was on the Bobby Bare and Friends show, circa 1988, out of Nashville. Bobby had an eclectic group of guests--everyone from Willie to Shel Silverstein. Great stuff.

  • Favorite song and the fact that he sings it......Heaven

  • A winning combination! Great voice, some nice steel guitar, a little fiddle.

  • A Simply Beautiful song, why don't modern country try to do something beautiful like the riffs this song has instead of all of that moaning and shouting they do now a days?

  • What else can u say about the truly amazing talent of Mr. Gene Watson. Every note he hits precisely. Clear and defined voice. One of the Greatest voices every to sing a single note in any music genre. He did his part Nashville now do ur part and if he is not in the Hall of Fame then make sure he gets in. he paid his dues to country music and he must be rewarded for all of his hits he has in country. Gene Watson is definitely a Legend in every sense of the word and will always be one. Good stuff

  • THIS MAN RANKS AMONG THE TOP FIVE COUNTRY AND WESTERN SINGERS OF ALL TIME, GENE YOU'RE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kinlochighlander DEFINITELY. GENE WATSON KICKS ASS.

  • Classic. Had the opportunity to see him perform several years ago and talk to him a bit. Super nice man and a true country artist.

  • He could stand on his head and sing this and do better than most of the newbies of today. Keep country COUNTRY.

  • this to you pop and mom R.I.P WE LOVE YOU

  • Just How good is this Guy....Wow

  • Damn!

Please tell me this whole show is out there somewhere on the net.

  • Admit it, modern country is a bunch of feminine guys singing 80s hair metal power ballads and bonehead southern rock. The songs and artists are manufactured by greedy record companies and trend-setting producers. Modern country sucks! Old country lives forever!

  • Gene Watson is the BEST!!!

  • my first taste of lovin was to this song in 1976

  • This is talent, not this crap they call country music today/

  • Gene Watson, what a voice. How he holds those notes, wheh!!!. It is hard to think that this was a banned song when it came out compared to what is heard today.

  • what a voice.

  • One of the best of many Country songs I listen to on XM10

  • Gene Watson is a wonderful singer. Enjoyed this very much. I hope to see him in person in October, in Radford, VA, with Rhonda Vincent, and she is wonderful also. Love your channel. Take care. Gwen

  • Best voice in country music today

  • YOU BETCHA...

  • where can i find this show?

  • Some more real country music. Nobody sings country anymore.

  • as ive said time and time again , one of my faves of genes.......

  • I danced to and saw live performances of Gene Watson in Houston TX dancehalls in the 80's. What great pictures I have of this dignified and classy performer! Always a gentleman and never sacrified quality over quantity. Wishing Mr. Watson much success on any endeavors. Adele Wilke, Yuma AZ

  • Love the singin. But could you keep the camera on Lorrie Morgan.

  • There's more tallent in that room right there, than in all of nashville TODAY!

  • @bluecatsuit i agree, this is what true country is suppose to be, but as they say time goes on,,, there arent many new country artists that i like,

  • kick ass tune.. hands down!!!

  • Vern Gosdin and Willie Nelson are also there.

  • I fell in love with Gene Watson and his beautiful songs after getting the Family Reunion dvds. Now we are waiting for the newest ones to be sent to us. More Family Reunion and more Gene Watson!!!!

  • Wow!!! Another great one, Gene. Keep singing.

  • Even Willy croons along with Gene on this. Two greats!!!!!!!!!

  • Jim Reeves has always been my favorite until I heard Gene Watson. Can anyone identify the people in this video?

  • you have Lorri morgan, Willie Nelson, Barbara Fairchild, Bobby Bare, Janie Fricke among others

  • WOW, now thats the good stuff he still sounds great

  • DAMM..... and he is singing this good after 40 years AND sitting down! WHAT TALENT!

    pure country!

  • This is one of my favourites, of course so is everything that gene sings

  • ''' Dont'''' get no better than this Dam why dont thay make music like this today Any 1 know who the fiddle player is ?

  • file (pronouned "fee lay" a seasoning made from dried sassafras, I believe) gumbo - a spicy dish made with shrimp other seafood, cajun in origin. Saw Gene late summer in No Ga, in Hiawassee, drove over just to hear him sing this song but got so much more. What an entertainer! And what a voice!

  • thanks

  • to thewigsy76 he is saying. feelay gumbo its a cajun dish

  • does any one no what he says at 0:15

  • My favorite song by Gene! I love his music, and I always will. Thank you for sharing.

  • There are no more pure country voices anymore. The ballad singers of "back in the day" are gone. Mr Gary Gene Watson is my all time favorite male country singer. I was fortunate enough to meet him a couple of years ago and have my picture taken with him. What a treat. He is as nice a person as he is a terrific singer.

  • beautiful song............. :)

  • There will be no more legends. No because the talent is not there. It is the radio suits that use en and lose em. After two or three good hits they are ready for the next new face. Country music is littered with them. That is not to say that some artists dont lose their way. So much money and some much craziness out there. Listeners and buyers used to control things, but not any more. How sad.

  • To the starrs of today Just think, no lights, no smoke, no distortion, just talent. Live up to it if you can. Sit in a chair and hit the raw notes. Let your pears be with you as you create history. Name 5 artist that will go forth and become legends.

  • Pure talent at its best ! Go Gene Go !

  • I love Gene's music, if I could sing I would to sound like him!!!!!

  • This is the kind of classic country music I like to listen to, when it comes to the older stuff. . It has an authentic country twang when u compare it to todays country...It seems to have the pop sound attached. The only trouble is every other country song from back when is too blue/mellow and or broken hearted/tragic. . Now this song I love...positive message.... More people here on the west coast (vancouver canada) have been dancing to new country, more than ever before...believe me!

  • The backing instrumentation is excellent, too.

  • The best!!! Love this guy.

  • Have always loved Gene's music, hear Gene and other Classic Country artists at RadiofreeCountry. Don't forget the dotcom

  • Awesome! I think I like this version best of all.

  • Never seen a guy who looks less like his voice would indicate than Gene.

    Love this man!

  • How did you picture Gene?

  • Well, he used to be younger, but he grew out of it.

  • So did I, unfortunately.

Take me back to the summer of '68.

  • @SlowwHand I think he looks just as great today! He grew out of "younger" to a wonderful "now"!

  • In my huble opinion, after 45 years in the music business, this is one of the greatest country songs recorded...and one of the greatest singers in country...my faves are Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, Gene Watson and Willie Nelson...cant go wrong there!...:-)

  • the best singer of all times!!!!

  • Id be so honored to sit inon these "reunions" wow

  • Yeah, check out the faces of the other stars...in heaven!

How many singers can actually make you feel "the damp tangled sheets" when they sing it.

  • OK all you wanna bees. Take a good long look and listen at this video. No special effects, no light magic, no nothing but pure talent. That s why most country artist are ledgends and all the others just fade away. Opps, just my opinion. Every time I post I get so damn much hate mail you d think I run the contry, lol

  • You damn right friend, Thanks for saying that. American Idol sucks!!!

  • @starr522 No hate mail here, you are right. Pure talent.

  • @starr522 SO true! No hate mail from me! What you say makes pretty damn good sense to me!

  • @starr522 Watch his version of Farewell Party at the country reunion DVD. He hits the high note sitting down and Larry Gatlin goes crazy! He is a true legend for sure.

  • @starr522 it is awesome to see that there is another fan of genes besides me. there is only one other country singer i know that has his vocal ability and that is keith whitley.. those two in a class by themselves. keep posting friend and damn what people say.............lol

  • marcy911able -I agree. Wanna bees if you ever get that good -that is success.

  • I keep coming back to this song. Gene Watson does the best on this song. I posted my version. Wish I had the fiddle to back me on mine. It really makes the song along with his voice.

  • This is as good as it gets!!! Just watch the faces of your counterparts as you sing. Thanks Gene, for your talent and the Texas swing style.

  • Fabulous!

(sad news about Randy Prince... condolences to his family, friends & fans. *****

  • Best song of all time in my honest opinion. This is real country... Thank you Gene. I have loved this song since I was 7 years old. I thank my parents for this song. My dad always played this in the heat of the summer, where it was so befitting. The memories flow and makes my hair stand up on my body. I absolutely love it!

  • Beautiful voice. Great song. Gonna do a version and post it. 5 stars

  • After hearing this song I recorded a version. Please check it out. Sherrill

  • Wow...the memories...one of my alltime favorites..thank you so much.

  • does anyone have Gene singing -Fourteen carat mind-in this same venue?

  • "Gene's guitar player, Randy Prince, died in a car accident on the way to meet the bus for departure to Nashville on the night of Thursday 14 May 2009. Randy Prince had worked on & off as Gene's guitar player for 20-plus years.

As a result of Randy Prince's passing, Greg Galbraith will fill in tonight at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville & this weekend on guitar."

  • He was'nt the bass guitar? Was he the one that always stands by the steele guitar player?

  • wow, so sorry to hear,

  • It's so sad to hear of Randy's passing. Gene's band has always been so awesome. I'm sure it was quite a burden for Gene and the other musicians to go on with their show in Nashville. Randy's great talent will always be remembered. You can't beat a true talented musician as they sure do help make a song special. Thanks again for posting this song here by Gene. - Paula

  • Here's an AWESOME song! A Real Passion just like he lived it. I really Love that style in this song and the sound of that Voice. Wonderful.Txs for sharing this

  • todays country sucks back then country was country

  • super song, just love GW's style, awesome audience! and great backing not to mention Weldon on the Steel.... great post!

  • What a voice !!!!!!!!

  • CLASSIC. they don't make country like that anymore.

  • met him in person and he is as nice as he is a great singer!

  • Outstanding, theres Billy Joe Shaver, Im thinkin the mullet is on the head of B.J. Thomas or some Florida fan, I can't tell.

Your right, When Country was still Country.

  • Absolute great tune!!

How many of those on stage with him can you name?

  • Barbara Fairchild, Willie Nelson, Bobby Bare, Kris Kristoferson, Lori Morgan, Janie Frickie, The Geezenslaw Brothers, more too hard see, Those singers were from the good old days when country was still country and the singing was still good.

  • What a great song and video. Love to see Gene and Willie on the same stage.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • Me and my mom were wacthing this!Hes awsome! She listens to him all the time!Expeslly for no reson going home.haha.

    -Anguela and Helen

  • Great voice...Great song...co-written by my good friend the late Vincent Matthews

  • He's sitting down. Sitting down is more of a strain to sing than standing. It doesn't seem to bother Gene.

  • I love this song

  • I have watched this video of Gene several times but don't t hink I've posted about it. His fabulous voice never changes and I could listen to him forever. It's great to see him here with other country music stars. He can outsing them all - tho I love them, too. What a treat this is. Thanks so much for posting - Paula

  • even on a cold Feb. day in Kentucky

  • yes it is Ralph Emerys country legends. just not sure which one. I found one at the library but Gene sang fourteen carat mind on that one.

  • Excellent... Phenomenal talent with great sounding voice..

  • What a great natural talent! Thank you for posting this.

  • Great show! Where's the rest, it has vanished on youtube?

  • He's great. Thanks for posting the video.

  • gotta love gene -- thanks for postin' !!

  • Slowwhand can you give us some back ground info on this video is a TNN special? It's awesome!

  • Bin2Portugal?

  • I'm pretty sure that this video came from this show: Ralph Emery's Country Legends, Vol. 2

It's available on Amazon. I just bought Vol. 1&2 for less than $40, including shipping.

    Good times!

  • ty was trying to find where to find and what volumes.

  • I believe this was an infomercial where all the artists sang. Are there videos of the other artists? Thanks for posting. I absolutely love this song.

  • Ok i don't watch tnn so i don't get why all these singers are just sitting around doing nothing.

  • It's called listening to, and enjoying, another artist perform.

  • Ok Mr Snarky but the only one who looks like he is enjoying the song is Willie and even he looks half asleep.

  • I'm glad you're so overwhelmingly observant, and glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Another Gene Watson Classic! Excellent!

  • Pure torture... Or excitment... over come with something Oh ... I love this guy. He's just sexy with that voice... ahhhhh love him.

Watch how he holds the mike, and moves around when he sings... oh and that voice , he's the best. Love that Gene Watson... and you Mark for sending me these videos .

  • Than you mark for another great video

  • Gene Watson never misses a note. He is simply the best! I believe this song was his first hit? Thanks Ramey58 for sharing with me. Keep these beautiful videos coming SLOWWHAND and thank you.

  • Thank you ramey58 for sending me to this one! I loved it - I'm going to have to find more of his ...quite a sexy voice...

  • Thank you for posting this fantistic.Elizabeth.

  • thanks for resending this for me. Love the song. Keep em comming.

  • God Bless Gene, He has still got it.

This song always sounds good when he sings it. No one else does it like him.

I am glad he's still blessing us with his talent.

  • I saw him Dec. 6th here in Fort Worth, Tx. He is as good or maybe even better than he used to be, if that's possible. Mark

  • The guy sitting in front of Gene is Bobby Bare.

  • I love that "nod" from Willie Nelson!

  • I like Classic Rock, Blues and Country. If I were to teach a class on music, I would include this song, video.

  • this song is amazing! i love it. thank you for adding :)

  • That's the great Janie Fricke singing harmony!

  • This version gives me goosebumps. His voice has gotten better with time. It's amazing!

  • Here I am again - but I feel so strongly about super singers like Gene who have worked hard for their success, most of them doing shows under all kinds of conditions throughout their careers. They have paid their dues, as the saying goes, and haven't had the advantage that some of today's entertainers have had with the age of higher technology, and putting them in the public eye more. Gene has an unforgettable voice, still sounding as wonderful today as he ever did. That's rare I feel.-Paula

  • Many of the people in the room are gone now... such a loss!

  • the only one i noticed was waylon and porter, i am happy that gene is still with us, such an artist , singer and entertainer

  • What a voice - I love this song by Gene - his biggest hit I suppose but all of his songs are hits - back years ago and today. I noticed Lorrie Morgan, Barbara Fairchild, Willie Nelson and also Janie Fricke was singing next to him. She has a fantastic voice herself. Gene overcame cancer and other health problems and I am so happy he is with us, his fans, in all the videos to enjoy. Thank you for posting. -Paula

  • gene truly is an legend, he has an awesome voice, and it never changes... i too am glad hes still out there singing, there isnt too many older singers left, i just heard merle haggard was in the hospital, but expect to be ok, think they said he was 71 , another awesome older true country singer

  • I've been wondering just how many of today's "hit makers" will be sounding good when they hit late 60's and into their 70's. Some of them, if they are fortunate, may keep their looks but their voices? - that may not work for them. I do hope Merle is doing better. He's had health problems in the past I know but, like Gene, he still sounds great when we have the privilege of hearing him. -Paula

  • dam, glad i found this video again, thanx for posting, genewatsonfan3 had quite a few but his site was shut down because of infringement rights or some crap
