I think its funny every one arguing about Volvo & Ford saying ford use the T5... then some one says no, ford use the 2.5T, etc. And people saying that the S40 T5 isnt a ''real'' T5 cos its only 220bhp not 260bhp....

The way it is, is .... The volvo S40 T5 & Ford Focus ST use the SAME engine, and it is a proper T5. It is detuned to 220bhp because it is placed in a smaller car, with less weight to pull than an S60 etc.

You cant have the 'baby' volvo out performing the bigger models... think about it. Its like BMW ... they cant make an M3 be quicker than an M5 as standard, because it would defeat the point of buying an M5.

The S40 T5 is made to compete with cars like the Golf GTi etc. If it has more bhp then insurance would be silly, fuel would be worse, and it would be more like an audi S4.. which Volvo have got the S60R as an answer to that.

i specifially looked for a volvo s40 VS golf race because i have dis same exact volvo, and ive raced golf's, jetta's 2.5 nissans, etc...... its a close race and/or i beat them. keep in mind it has alot to do with alot of the drivers, but i push my volvo to the limits, its 100% stock. i have many videos of races of golf's GTI's that i smoked! and u see it. the new chasis volvo s40 is a ford focus chasis, but not the engine. ford dont use 5 cyl.

If volvo uses ford engines it has to be the horrible diesel engines, hate them. But volvo makes the 5 cylinder gasoline engine. And Ford Focus St uses a volvo engine.

Some info: the T5 was designed by porsche, is used in s40's, s60's, v70's and xc90's. His performance and reliability is so high they are using the engine in ford focus st and several 2009 models. Even the s60R have the same t5, but with two intercoolers and high pressure turbo.

How do you mean by "real" T5? There are two T5 engines, one with 220bhp and one with 260bhp. So the Focus ST uses the smaller block T5 engine. Bascially the ST is a Volvo.

wow I'm really not surprised by this video. When my Volvo 850 t5r was still stock i was beating the last generation mustang gt's (2000-2004 whatever). Vw's don't beat Volvo's in any way. All my car has now is a performance chip and Eurosport tuning cai and i can beat 350 z's and 90's Bmw m3's. All Volvo's aren't slow.
