That is a really insightful interview. I love listening to it. Lets you see inside Jimi's head a bit. Love that he liked and mentioned the Floyd. He knew Syd and admired his direction with the echo units.Enjoyed it!

@jcghooker Yeah, probably all of them. Since he passed near the end of 1970, he'd probably heard all of the more recent heavy bands that were popping up around '69-'70. Mountain played Woodstock and Jimi sat and listened to "Never In My Life" in the control room at The Record Plant and he really dug Leslie's guitar riff for the song. I REALLY wonder what he thought of Black Sabbath though! The U.K. album had been out since February and the U.S. since June '70.
@MattHatter Right. Hendrix did jam with Leslie West of Mountain. I'm pretty sure Jimi liked him. Leslie copied his hairstyle! And his style of playing is very similar to Clapton's. Mountain reminded a lot of people of Cream, and Hendrix was the Cream's biggest fan. He was quite upset when they broke up. Bands at this time were getting louder, especially Grand Funk. Black Sabbath started off sounding a little bit like Cream, too, so Hendrix might have dug it. Who knows?

Actually, he was probably murdered by his manager for the insurance money. He no longer wanted to work with him, because he didn't want to be confined to pop music. The choking was the result of being held down and having bottles of wine forced down his throat, according to some accounts. I find it amusing that people say all this shit about being the 'kindest person' etc.
I am not sayin he is a bad performer or bad singer/guitar player I for one am a huge Jimi fan, but sayin hes super friendly etc... Is just a bit of bullshit, he bottled a girl for absolutely NO reason, he punched the drummer in the face and dragged him around stage while stomping and kicking him, he had severe anger issues... Just because hes a fabulous performer doesnt mean you have to make up shit?.

He is not really that high; I mean he is mentally so ahead of his time. All these haters that have posted these comments that somehow it is all just a drugged out nonsense. I mean I feel so sorry for those that have ears but don't listen--eyes but don't see. They are so sexually frustrated that their insecurities are all they ever hear and just reflect that in all their comments; just trolling around looking to barf up their quite desperation. Jimi is a visionary in so many ways.

That is a really insightful interview. I love listening to it. Lets you see inside Jimi's head a bit. Love that he liked and mentioned the Floyd. He knew Syd and admired his direction with the echo units.Enjoyed it!

It seems the 3 people that disliked this interview are lovers of the autotuned electronic rock/mucic thats comin out right now. Jimmy had a an electrifying soul that rocked, no vocal masking of that needed.,We are falling away from the basics. Matrix music is gaining popularity. F autotune. Jimmy we need more people like you but there will be no one that can take your place.

Wow. I didn't realize that Billy Cox had left The Experience right before Jimi died. I probably SHOULD HAVE known that, knowing so much about Jimi, but I didn't. Gosh, I wonder who would have become his next bass player. No one knows because Jimi himself didn't even know! Very cool to hear him talk about Pink Floyd and how he likes them. Does anyone know of any interview where he talks about Led Zeppelin? That would be cool.

Possibly Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Mountain, Cactus, The Who, Black Sabbath, etc? What else could he be talking about? Perhaps he didn't like what those bands were doing. Listening to Jimi's 1970 recordings on the New Rays album, he's moving in a completely different direction. Damn, if only he would have lived...

@jcghooker Yeah, probably all of them. Since he passed near the end of 1970, he'd probably heard all of the more recent heavy bands that were popping up around '69-'70. Mountain played Woodstock and Jimi sat and listened to "Never In My Life" in the control room at The Record Plant and he really dug Leslie's guitar riff for the song. I REALLY wonder what he thought of Black Sabbath though! The U.K. album had been out since February and the U.S. since June '70.

@MattHatter Right. Hendrix did jam with Leslie West of Mountain. I'm pretty sure Jimi liked him. Leslie copied his hairstyle! And his style of playing is very similar to Clapton's. Mountain reminded a lot of people of Cream, and Hendrix was the Cream's biggest fan. He was quite upset when they broke up. Bands at this time were getting louder, especially Grand Funk. Black Sabbath started off sounding a little bit like Cream, too, so Hendrix might have dug it. Who knows?

@jcghooker Yeah, I have Mark Farner's biography "From Grand Funk To Grace" and he and Jimi were friends, not real close though. Jimi dug Mark's singing and the band as well.

Actually, he was probably murdered by his manager for the insurance money. He no longer wanted to work with him, because he didn't want to be confined to pop music. The choking was the result of being held down and having bottles of wine forced down his throat, according to some accounts. Just a coincidence that Michael Jackson's doctor goes on trial today, but think about the money.
