  • look how he narrows on the downswing and has a lot more width on the backswing makes him generate a lot of power when he shifts his weight and clears his hips

  • @Golfpro411 I think he is very wide on the downswing, if you take in the slight lateral move to the left...plot his hand path relative to the grid. Wide to wide, baby!

  • Not sure if Davis Love III took lessons from other instructors other than his dad, Davis Love Jr. I am sure his dad had others look at him and offer ideas. I feel if his dad had lived Davis would have been one of the all time greats ! Carl Welty

  • His head is leaning left at impact. Does that lose distance?

  • This is The Golf School at La Costa. Each and every year the players would visit. I started the first golf school west of the Mississippi in the early 80's. Carl Welty

  • How have you got all these tour legends to hit balls into a net in your basement?

Great vids, what era are these from?

    Thanks for posting

  • Watched DLIII on the range at Pebble back in the mid 80's. Just skinny kid who just bombed it past everyone. Persimmon, balata, steel and 300 yards. Ball went waaaay up there, then seemed like it took forever to come down. Looked completely effortless, too. Damndest thing I ever saw, just freaky.

  • I think Davis was trained by his father to play golf like Jack Nicklaus, tee to green ! Today's golf is pitch and putt on super great conditions, not Davis's strength. Carl Welty

  • @Weltycarl I think Davis' Strength is anything not involving a putt.....

  • @Weltycarl

Who did Davis Love's dad take Davis III to for lessons as a kid?

  • Might not be most people's idea of the prettiest or most impressive action, but I always thought it was, and I think most people who knew what to look for believed the same. Most fans today have forgotten (or never knew) just how good this swing was at getting the job done--one of the most underrated ever, IMHO.

Man, CW, you have some ridiculously great vids up. Thanks for posting.

  • I had asked him to max it out, par 5 full power ! Then I asked him how he would swing on the first hole tomorrow and the speed was 117 mph. The same with Fred Couples max 123 mph crusing speed 115 mph. Greg Norman max 121 mph crusing speed 121 mph ! Carl Welty

  • @Weltycarl Really cool info man, thanks.

  • No wonder he's had back injuries, that swing will bust anyone's back.

  • Awesome! Love Davis's swing. I read that he is working on cocking his wrist sooner on the backswing. What would be the benefit to him in that? I know Jack and Greg always resisted that idea.

  • I always admired Davis' raw power, he used to bomb it 50 yards past everyone with a persimmon driver

  • There is more on the speed machine, which was made by Hughes Missile. Type in Carl Welty and they will apear. Norman, Kite, Daly, Couples, Stockton. The Davis Love swing was 1992. Do you want more of Davis ? Carl Welty

  • @Weltycarl who is the best ball striker you have filmed? Top three

  • @cockywatchman1976 ok dont reply to me then!!!

  • great vid!!! what year is this from? u got any more?
