Lets be honest Lucas takes more credit for the original when he didnt edit it, he had it edited as a documentary style of editing but 3 others turned it into the high energy pop corm epic.
interesting comment about being disconnected. I think a lot of people starting wondering that since '97 when Greedo shot first. Lucas didn't get why so many people like Han Solo's character and why him shooting first was a small but defining characteristic. That one little change sabotage all that.
What I don't get is why he doesn't do like other directors and release two version - the original and the director's cut. Problem solved - nuff said
I see what they're saying and I agree with most of it, but from an artist's/writer's stand point he shouldn't have to bend his creations to his fans liking just to appease them, you make what you want cause it's YOUR creation and Idea's, no I'm not fanboying protecting him or anything, I just hate it when people don't understand the writer's mind and what it means to be an artist, ever heard of the phrase You suffer for your art? But when he starts going and fucking with the EU, then I hate him!
Wow....You two are as hypocritical as RLM and Pinklett....I have one piece of advice for you two: Go-fuck-your-selves. Seriously, is the world full of such degenerates nowadays? >.>....
@alienadin Everything these 2 said about Lucas is absolutely spot on. Whenever somebody has the presence of mind to criticize Lucas and call him to task on the bad decisions he's made over the last 14 years, it's so typical for people to come out of the wood work and say things like, "Shut up, Lucas is awesome! Shut up, they're his movies and not yours! Shut up and get a life! Shut up, Lucas doesn't have to take crap from anybody!" and blah blah blah blah blah....
a guy who became more interested in film technology over the story? I'm surprised that George Lucas and Robert Zemeckis haven't teamed up to make a film
Why don't we all go to George Lucas' home take turns raping his children to death in front of him and slice his throat and leave him to die in a pool of his own blood? Is that what you guys want?
@GODCONVOYPRIME No. We want him to leave the original trilogy alone and stop fucking it up. You, on the other hand, are worrisome for even going to such a dark place and giving us the credit. o.O
@joeylodes Uh Lucas brought both th story and caracters to Empire, and he was excecutive producer and superviser, oh and he only epointed Kirshner a s a replacement, he i fact interfered a lot and co-directe V same with Kasdan, he in fact also sdid most of the writing. Those people only served as substitues, and he als brought both the moneuy and efects.
@joeylodes Uh Lucas came up with the story for Empire and the caracrtrers and ideas, and he was suprerviser and excecutive producer, he only hired Kirshner as a substiture for when he wasn`t there, andf it was his visio and he as sup[erviser and excecutive geavuly interefered and gave very very spcifi instructions, also to add to this Star Wars isn`t Kirshner at all, cause asI said he wasn`t thw on who cam up with the story nor the caracters and under supervision and he only did....
@reviewreviewer1 some of the directing, because Lucas was more skilled and care for the project he atualy took over fr most of the film and served as co-director, also he wrote the mahority of th screenplay. How can you claim Star Wars is Irvin Kirshner when all he did was do a small part of the directing for the second film, under supervsion, and directing somene else his idea. He was directing Luas his fim, and was supervised and actualy did less of the directing the ucas who was co`director.
@reviewreviewer1 How can u say Star Wars is more his hsn Lucas when Lucas came up qioth the franchise, all the stories caractrs and ideas for all te fils, excecutive prouced and supervised all the films, AND fully wrote and directed the first film and the majority of the second and tird, and all Kirshner did was direct a small part of the secomd film under supervision. The creator is the main power of the franchise not the director espicialy if he is supervise and only serves as a subsatture.
No sorry, but we've heard the stories about how he was "held back" making the original trilogy and didn't get everything he wanted. He's gotten FAR too much credit for how good the originals were. His character and story ideas were horrible, like Luke Sywalker being an 70 year old man with a robot head.
The prequels, full control. And we can all see the results. Abominations. They weren't just bad, but he's completely tainted the entire franchise that he "created".
@Reclaimer77 he was held back by the technoloy, that`s it, it was mostly harder to do things, some things were scrapped, and he mostly co9uldn`t tell the first 3 more ambituous chaptersm, therefiore not gerting everything he wanted on screen. MNo person held him back and the films were almost entirely as he wanted too all it missed wasthe stuff the special editions had added. Yes that stuff wth Luke were earlier drafts, just because some stuff was repwritten and he change things doesn`t......
@Reclaimer77 ... mean he didn`t write the later drafts aswell. Also please explainwhat be bad about an okder caraxcter, not every hero needs to be a teenager, also a robot mask could add mistery, but what am I talking about anyways!! He wrote out the franchise as a whole and fully wrote the story and screenplay of Episode IV, directed and excecutive produced it, plus supervised everything in the making of the film and as the owner he had the ladt word in every single matter and full freedom!!
@Reclaimer77 How does he get too much credit????????? Just because he was held bacjk by technology what al films were at the time, doesn`t change he directed ececutive producerm and creatively supervised, consultanted and lead th project. Also the fact earlier drafts were different doeshn`t change that wrote it, how woul the fact his earlier drafts were diferent and it wad reewritten mean others wrote it, or something, when a writer has complete creative freedom, he still often makees rewrites!
@Reclaimer77 Writers often have multiple ideas, writers wit complete fredom still often change things. So how does he get too much credit, because technology held him back a bit, should th lack of CGI get credit? How does he get too much credit? he wrote the story and the screenplay, owned the dilms and was the filmmakingleader, was creative superviser and consultant commading everyoe and gave instructions to all, directed it excecutive prouced it, and started ILM from scracth, thio is all fact!
My persoanl opinion is that George Lucas can do whatever he pleases to HIS films, BUT as an audience we have all the right in the world to complain and call him out on it. The only thing that annoys me is that the unaltered theatrical versions are harder to get and not presented nearly as nicely on the dvds. He can do whatever he wants just please give us an option of the versions we watch.
@leocheyne well not completely, once you put a movie out its no longer just your movie, like a piece of art, it belongs to the world. everyone paid to go see his movie, so its now ours as well as his. And we grew up loving the film the way it was. It'd be like if all filmakers went back and updated their movies. So like, gremlins woudl be all cgi and they'd get rid of the animatronics. It would suck.
@WalksBehindTheRose Well, I think the if he shouldn`t be allowed to alter them, and they belong to the public. Which is ver communistic thinking, instead if capitalism, he should also have gotten ALL the money and ytie he wanted, so he could et them right the first time, but no this is a hard caoitalistic world and he fierst needed to b succesfull, amd in captilisms, it are his movies!
@WalksBehindTheRose Uh no. Tis is a capitaistic society, right. Well that is why he couldnt make them this way originally, if he we think filmmakers can`t change thei films that he should have goten all the money he wanted from ythe beginning, but he didn`t caus this is the capitalistic west, so it are his movies. Also you didn`t make the movie nor pa for it, and when you go o see a movie, you only pay for the ticker, you don`t buy the rights to it.
The Phantom Menace was Palpatine. The menacing figure that few people saw, always hooded and never properly seen, doing stuff in the background but always in a way that you know leads to the empire. He's a phantom. Who is a menace.
Erm, thought everyone knew that.
But yes, Prequels no place as good as the originals, and this Trekkie for one is also a Wars fan.
