  • i love the solo,,, :))

  • i only clicked on this because i have the same guitar

  • @nabullshitmate Fender Telecaster

  • Like.

  • That's not a lick, it's just a scale

  • this is really great. thanks man!! keep rockin

  • i want that tele soooo bad

  • Wheew, I would KILL for that guitar!

  • very nice breakdown guitar lesson thank you

  • Hey nice job. Love those minor blues!

  • @DRGK9, I like Telecasters, but they are unforgiving guitars, so you may want to think about a Strat or a Les Paul. You can play blues on many guitars. Depending on the flavour of blues you want to play, the amp is much more critical. Fender amps traditionally give you a cleaner sound - AND they magically work well with Fender guitars. I tried a small Egnater combo recently: it blew me away. Bear in mind that a low-wattage (eg., 15W) amp will probably be more sensible than a 100W beast.

  • im lookin for the most bluesy classic guitar i can get. and for under $1000 what should i get

  • Thanks..a goldmine in that example ..

  • Hey it's my uncle steve

  • whats the name of the basetrack..??

  • nice one buddy thanks appreciated

  • the only cool thing in this is your telicaster

  • Fuck man nice Tele!

  • thanks man !!! needed some licks to add to a couple of songs !

  • Jody, you're the best. These young snots have no idea how lucky they are to have guys like you. When I was coming up in the 60s and 70s you couldn't get the really good cats to show you shit. Everybody was so jealous of their licks and knowledge. Ignore what 95% of these morons say online. If they could even spell they'd be halfway dangerous. Keep rockin' buddy. You inspire, and that's all that mattters.

  • Cool tutorial ! More cool stuff you will find at blues-spielen.de (incl. TABs for free...) or check out BluesGitarreLernen (Youtube-Channel) :-)

  • Thanks Jody and how goes the battle? Never mind the idiots out there who wouldn't know their arse from a hole in the ground and call you down, the lick you have shown us is great and I use it in my solos now...keep truckin' man n' don't let the bastards get you down. Ten thumbs up man!

  • SLOW DOWN

  • GRACIAS.

  • That was cooooooooooool!

  • very nice!

  • @TheeLuna01 You never can tell when some

little lick opens a door for you to create something

    of your own

    keep jammin

    later

  • that Tele looks like it has a lot of mojo in it. ya want want of those that's been lived in for a while.

  • ciao complimenti sei veramente bravo ti ascolto ogni giorno ciao

  • @ jfunkfinger69 Aw shucks, jfunk called me a half wit!! Sorry, my typing skills overide my spelling skills and even sorrier it bothers you so much. At least you had a thoughtful reply to my post tho, greatly adding to the discussion!! So....You graduated phi beta kappa from which Ivy league school? Meanwhile, just bought a 60 anniversery TELE to go with my 50th anniversery Strat and 20th Anniversery Les Paul. Gonna spend all day playing some Jody Worrell licks on each of them..

  • That legitimately worn and dirty maple neck (as opposed to shop-worn douche baggery) looks bad-ass in the extreme.

  • Cool lick, but on 2:04 he plays the lick different and leaves out a couple of notes???

  • I just uploaded some new free lessons for Beginners and for the Jazz Blues progression.

  • this guys voice is so annoying

  • @sydfloydpink

    you're way more annoying

  • after going up and down the minor pentatonic scale for what seems like forever, it felt like i wasnt getting anywhere,so i decided to try a few licks. this first one came out with only a couple of tries. it feels real good :D thanks for the lesson.

  • That Tele is so butterscotch, I can almost taste it.

  • danny gatton?

  • that is one beautiful tele my man

  • nice to see a tele and not a bloody strat, i know there nice, but everybody plays a fucking strat!!!

  • @tom27j Strats are quite popular, but lots of blues guitarists play other guitars. Personally, I'm a ES-335 Fat-Neck man myself.

  • A guitar is much Like a woman. You have to hold her in your arms. You have to love her. If she feels right, then she's the one for you. You have to show her lots if attention and take great care of her.. If she becomes warped or twisted, you can remove her neck...

  • 116 people failed at guitar

  • This lick is great! Thanks!

  • These strings look heavy

  • dude can u plz send me the beat u played on

  • Finally, on this video, he is showing the neck where you can actually watch his fingers, what they are doing.

  • well shoot gawd damn son!! that sounds good

  • please make the use of right hand clear..when to do up-down. its taking ages to figure out..please .thank you

  • thank you Jody, you're doing a great and fine job on your "axe" nd for me that I love blues it comes up more brighter what you're showing, thanks a lot, Claudio from italy (somewhere out on the north part of the country)

  • Good lesson, a lot of playing and not too much talking, very helpful licks, thanks.

    BTW. Great tele!

  • i really love the color of your telecaster!

  • seen it all before!

  • his guitar needs a clean look at the fret board lol

  • Great lesson. Watching you work the lick into the track helps a lot. Thanks.

  • can you teach this gringo malsteem

  • Is it just me or do fat handed people play better guitar? I'm not joking...

  • @andrewpmast LOL maybe blues yes, but not in old school metal, cant stretch for some of the cooler VH stuff. In fact, when i watched Eddie play, i realized i was at a real disadvantage with fat fingers LOL

  • @apnearocker hehehe, yea makes sense. One can't deny that physiology differences give different advantages.

  • @apnearocker look up Johnny HIghland or go to my channel and look at my favorites. This guy is very heavy and let me tell ya. He is awesome in multiple generes. Don't be discouraged, keep jammin.

  • @andrewpmast Na, look at Paul Gilbert. His fingers are like twigs. But I'll agree, fat fingered players play with more soul like David Gilmour! :)

  • Comment removed

  • just learning this Am pentatonic scale from my tutor this week, and have to tell you - your vids along with what i learn in person are really going a long way to helping me get better. i appreciate it. p.s.: your tele is the hotness.

  • omg watch 3:00 a few times =D

  • Thanks Jody.... Always loved how Buddy kept it simple too. The A min Blues lick is fairly cut and dry, but when you added going over itself, it came to life. This is what our greats do over and over.... Thanks for the excellent instruction.

    KB

  • Thanks for the lesson. You make it look easy and broke it down into bite-size chunks. Nice Tele, too.

  • He should clean his fretboard...

  • @arva300178 this wouldn't work. he's got a REAL RoadWorn Tele I think, amazing guitar!

  • @arva300178 its not dirty, its worn out. if you knew how to play (or if you played more) you would know that

  • @arva300178 LOL

  • Great lick, also sounds good if instead of sliding from the 5th fret to the 3rd fret on the A string, you slide from the 5th to the 4th :).

  • I love lessons like this but it looks like 1,287,332 other people already know this lick!

  • @1971SuperLead pssst: most people will never know where you got it, they'll just think you're a good player for mastering it

  • damnnn beat up guitar

  • thanks you for this lesson beef (*.*)=b

  • all blues licks are just like the old same ones

  • that Tele is amazing

  • deluxe us teles are amazing. ash body , fat maple neck. the first lesson here is get a US fender. theres no substitue. theyre amazing tone, and people just dig them. I'm a 30 yr player, and just listen to the tone, even if the licks are just slow, it sounds great. don't waste money on hype or looks, fender got the good wood, and thats that.

  • Nobody's gonna hand you the keys to an 18-wheeler and say go!

Learn to drive the machine and stay out of the ditch - then start running red lights

    and speeding!

All you young players - take advantage of what you find here

Everyone on here is giving you years of info free and every little piece of it

can help you -TAKE IT! WORK IT! FRONT TO BACK UPSIDE DOWN AND

BACKWARDS! Until you turn it into something of your own

That's how the MU is passed on

  • @yourunclehank1 yes sir of cousre sir as you say sir

  • Sweet lick.

  • before you turn into slash or navarro or morello you gotta appreciate these simple lessons first. if you wanna be yngwie or paul gilbert or steve vai you have a much much longer road to traverse, and this is by far just a bump on the road.

  • love the tone..sweet bite to it..wish i still had my telecaster..dam

  • Great tuition, if you want further licks listen to our guitarist play on the track "Chevrolet"

  • Great sound on the tele

  • any aspiring guitar players out there dont rely on other people to show you licks to play. all you gotta do is learn your scales and experiment with those. if you can't do that then you will never develope your own sound. if you feel like that wont work try and learn from the Pros (ie. your favorite guitar players).

    peace...

  • Couldn't diasgree more............... while it is important to develop your own style, learning licks from thje experts is a time honored tradition going back a hundred years. Clapton, Page and Beck all went top school on players who cam before

them. Learning licks from otheer guys, even your buddies, will make your finagers move in unfamiliar ways and open the fretboard to you..

    will morph into your style.

PS. Jody Worrell IS a pro.

  • @jmbalich word, u def gotta play your own way, but that doesn't mean you have to invent your own scale or not learn how to play them, you gotta build off what you know, so why not learn how to play great licks?

  • @voltronthechef Not sure if this means you agree or disagree........................I agree with you that you should learn your scales and as much theory as possible..........they become tools in the toolbox. A person could theortetically develop scales by working them out by trial and error, but why spend all that time covering ground that has already been figured out. I say use EVERY opportunity to add to one's knowledge base. After that, make it your own

  • @jmbalich Very well said! It is fundamental for evolving as a player and musician!

  • @jmbalich could'nt agree more, well said

  • @jmbalich I find YT to be rich in great guitarists and teachers...I used to have to pay 20 bucks for a good song book...and that was back in the 70's.....I've picked up so much and the instant tabs websites gives us access to lyrics & tabliture that we rarely had a chance to find back then....I'm getting spoiled, but I ain't complaining

  • @jmbalich I`VE GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINAGERS !!!

  • @jmbalich Learn to spell you fucking half wit !

  • @verifyguy fo show. bt to properly improv you also need also to know the numbers of each note in the scales or the notes themselves, otherwise your guessing of how to reproduce your mental lick will often be incorrect

  • wheres the tab!? / all the print out stuff these guys mention?

  • @randomaccount37 Go to their web page. The tabs are in the free lesson section under this lesson title.

  • ill be sure to never do this now that almost 2 milllion people have watched this video.

  • You are an excellent teacher Jody,

    and a fine player

    God Bless

  • Nice but there is no B in the A minor penatonic blues scales so the B is a passing tone ..

  • It sounds really good to land on the B though. That is the 9 ( in the A scale)

  • No its the 2nd A B C# D E F# G#A in the key of A major. But its the 9 of the A major chord A C # E B, in the Blues scale it is a passing tone.. it works ..

  • YYYEEEAHH....ma men!!!

  • thx sooo much

  • I liked this one a lot. Nice guy, too.

  • ya guys come on he eurages us, you gotta do it.

  • hey Jody, look at your hits.thats a testament to your teaching ability....great job

  • VERY VERY NICE

  • eck

  • Very, very nicely done.

  • nice i like how its palmuted

  • I love that guitar. I have exactly the same

  • hey what kind of sound does that guitar give you? and what type of music do you play with it? i want to get one but just want to dig into it a lil more.

  • it's a telecaster, commonly used for twangy country tones but it is a very versatile guitar depending on your pick up configurations and what not. most have 2 single coil pick ups but some like the '72 Thinline have dual humbuckers for that heavy tone. once again, it all depends on what style of Tele you pick up. They range in price from around $300-400 up to $1,000-1,300

  • Carol689, This is no doubt the best guitar I've ever had! The versatility is just unbelivable! I use it for Jazz/blues/funk/pop etc! The twangy quacky sound id never outdated! With the maple neck you also get the outstanding poppy sound.

Check out my hobby project at myspace(dot)com/pstripe for an idea on what I use it for

  • nice...thanks...tasty stuff

  • If a song is in the key of A can I use both the A minor Blues scale and the A major blues scale?

  • if it's in A minor you should use the A minor blues scale... and the same with major

i do not really think that there is a song just in A

  • Any blues songs mix 3rd min and 3rd maj ... so you can really use both of them relating to what are you trying to "say" with the melody you play...

  • Typical X7 blues use Mixolydian, Major pentatonic, and Minor pentatonic.

Typical Xm blues uses Dorian, Aeolian, and Minor pentatonic.

  • haha your really the only one here that knows what there talking about, good job

  • No. "key of A" is only one part of the information you need to know about the song. You also need to figure out if it's major or minor and use the appropriate scale. Major scale over a composition in minor sounds awful, and vice versa.

  • yeah man. Clapton does this a lot, most guys do. Check out his solo on Cream's rendition of "Crossroads". He jumps between A major and minor scales in that tune which is just 3 chords A major D major and E major, but he alternates between tones just because it's a blues tune and that's what Clapton does. Derek Trucks also does this with a slide on his bands version of "Key to the Highway". Check those two out

  • Angus Young never could make up his mind between the major and minor pentatonics while soloing, me neither.

  • Cerb

  • Awesome

    Blues / Country [Acoustic]

    /watch?v=SOQbiD5pOis

    xD~

  • i need you

  • I love how worked his fretboard looks

  • "A-minor blues scale?" Isn't that redundant? Is there a blues scale with a major third? You have major and minor pentatonic scales and then you have the blues scale identical to the minor pentatonic, except for adding a flat 5th, making a six tone scale. Regardless, it's a good lesson and I don't think Southerners are necessarily "tools" as stated by "lilzdogg121."

  • Yes there is. A minor blues is A C D Eb E G and A major blues is A B C C# E F#. You could also put a flat five in there if you want.

  • Tell him! People should always check before they act like pundits.

  • very useful and nice explained. thx

  • luv the tele

  • yee is very good!!

  • where do we get that backing track??? i already have one for A minor blues, but this one is pretty good too

  • when the levee breaks by led zeppelin...

  • wow, i cant believe i didnt see that. thanks man

  • no problemo...

  • i was thinkin that too when the drum track started playing

  • damn thats a nice tele you can tell its been played something fierce :p

  • I am a pro player and we are just what we have in our bag of licks i have just added one more to mine thank you I always ask people to show me onley your favoret lick then i show them mine thank you

  • I like your guitar tone

  • relaxed

  • now thats a good old Tele abused of pure blues guitar playing

  • very cool man soon to become a piece in my book of skills

  • no he is not refering to A Minor Blues Scale, he is really playing a pentatonic, where is the blue note? =( you forget it.

  • the blue note in Aminorblues is d#, it's played 4 times in the lick

  • you did not here him he said like not the same as

  • he said like not the same as the blue note is d# i think

  • People used to pay hundreds of dollars for the lessons shared freely on youtube. It is fantastic for musicians.I bet a lot of teachers are pissed off at youtube. Too bad!

  • Yeah its a great help, for all those who dosnt afford lessons or have the time.

  • what is the scale he's talking about (name)

  • MINOR PENTATONIC

  • thnx man

  • acctually he is refering to the A Minor Blues Scale

  • A minor pentatonic

  • thanks man .........

  • Do all maple necks look worn like that after years of playing

  • YEAH IF YOU WEAR OFF THE CLEAR COAT

  • Turn off caps lock...

  • OK I WILL

  • ....?

  • hahaha xD

  • yeah

  • holy crap thats a thin neck dude.

  • I like your videos Jody...I'm a subscriber...Ive played lead in bands for 20 years and am loving the internet and utube..IF I had resources like this as a kid...man...the kids now are very lucky to have guys like you...keep it up and I'll keep watching. Michael C

  • no friggin kidding. ive self taught myself for years, and the only way i can possibly pull it off is youtube and watching videos like this for hours. id have to admit, alot of other teens take this stuff for granted. this crap is friggin gold mate.

  • That is a really neat backing track from your site...its so relaxing jamming along to that.

  • Jody, Vogal. Yo guys keep teaching me I keep learning. I learned this lick, your Free BB King Lick, Vogals Blues Note Licks, Vogals A Minor Pent. Scale Licks. I am still out here learning all I can get.. Can not wate to get my Timeing Right on this lick, Sheww wee ;-)

  • i just got back playing guitar after a 4 year absence. What was i thinking dear god

  • your not related to Ernest p. Worrell!

  • one question though...does the Licks usually come out of different scales?....
