  • Shouldnt you say loosing fat not weight as weight includes muscle mass

  • Oh hello! Have you thought about the maximus muscle 247 workout (search on google)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate gained tons of muscle with it.

  • Weight Lifting While Losing Fat -----------> absolutely YES!

  • I lost 65 pounds just lifting weights....with NO cardio.

  • wow it is very nice

  • Yep, just look at the show Biggest Loser. They're lifting weight, doing insane amounts of cardio, dropping tons of weight and gaining a lot of muscle. They mention things like, "you gained 20lbs of muscle so far."

  • @eurohim That's complete Bullshit!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV You think their doctor is lying about the test results?

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Actually, I wouldn't be surprised, but I don't doubt since they were so under-trained that they packed on quite a bit of muscle throughout their time on the show.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV steve does your breathing technique or how you breath matter when doing crunches or sit ups?

  • @BodyPerformanceTV I have been working out for a few months now and i am lifting heavy weights and doing fewer reps the problem is that my arms are getting thinner, before i started working out i had big arms, i think it was mostly fat, but now i have thin arms but i am still able to lift heavy weights, i have been taking whey protein since i started working out and whey protein doesn't make me hungry so i eat once a day and drink 8 oz of protein everyday. is what i am doing right or wrong???

  • this is the answer ive been looking for. for the longest time and this guy just made it clear thank you!

  • Have what to give you faster and greater results?

  • PLEASE ANSWER THIS FOR ME! my main goal in the next month and a half is to rapidly increase the size and strength of my leg muscles because ive got big muscles up top and skinny chicken legs. i also want to decrease body fat. should i run on the treadmill? or will that slow the growth of my leg muscle?

  • Hi steve wanted to say thank u for all ur advice i love it and i started eating healthier and working out for two weeks now and i have lost 13bls i weighed 306 in the bigining weight and im curius about loose skin.. will i have it? how can i avoid it if possible? any help and advice will b deeply appriciated thank u once again!

  • @MrPimpjuice11 Loose skin may or may not happen depending on the individual. I tell epople to focus on the weight loss and IF loose skin occurs we can deal with it then. Keep up the good work. I also have a BlogTalkRadio com show. You can listen there or on iTunes. Search Steve Turano. Recent shows can also be heard on my site home page at the bottom once they upload. You can also listen to archived shows of my Tampa radio show at GreatFatLossPill com. Click on the On The Air tab at the top.

  • thanks, I already lost 12 pounds in about 2 weeks :) now starting to lift weights wish me luck :)

  • Good video

  • @420squeeg thanks man. im gonna do things naturaly!

  • What is the point of weight gain formula? i have been told by many power lifters to increase caloric intake to increase in muscle mass. I dont think i can body build on a diet of only salad and chicken breasts.

  • @SquarishLink I've covered this topic many times on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • Your welcome punanibuzzed. Let us know what your goals are...and then let us know your progress. There's quite a few guys posting there ( 5 or 6) for sure, that really know their stuff. They're strong and lean and ripped,..I'm strong and lean and ripped,..and we'll help you get that if you stick around some.

  • Wanna lose weight fast? Just do as I did and learn how at fatburner. cz. cc :D

  • should i take creatine while im doing p90x?

  • @awesomedude717

Not if you want real results... Just do the program naturally, and you'll see results. Natural is always better. I took creatine bank in the day, and wouldn't recommend it, or anything other than Protein and Magnesium (only supplementing I do).

  • @420squeeg Judging by your name, '420'squeeg I'm guessing you're taking another supplement other than magnesium. lol

  • muscle BURNS fat

  • Steve,

    become a beachbody coach!!

  • I have a friend who says he has about 6% bodyfat while offseason, im just curious, ain't that to low if you wanna maximize your results?

or do you just have to eat a tiny amount more calories than what you burn?

  • Amazing

  • Steve is always on Q...

  • .......

  • You CAN run a calorie deficit AND still have enough to build muscle. You don't need that many calories to build muscle and you can only put on so much muscle in a weeks time. Some of the cals used that create the deficit are come from muscles demanding extra calories for repairing and building; the calories for muscle building become PART of the caloric deficit. Getting stronger on a lift is a pretty good indication of muscle gain. Getting weaker on a lift is a good indication of muscle loss.

  • ive been watching some of your posts and you seem knowledgeable...so, i was speaking to a friend some time ago about cardio/heart rate/muscle building, etc...He was telling me that at some point during cardio, if a person's heart rate gets too high, the body is no longer able to burn fat and begins to burn muscle instead...how important is a target heart rate ??? is this stuff true?

  • That was the old line of thinking. Back in the 70's and early 80's the idea of " LSD " Long Sustained Distance was the ideal for fat burning. It burns fat, but the idea of a fat burning " zone " has been debunked for some time. I'm sure you've seen those heartrate zone charts in gyms that are based on your age. I read an interview given to the doctor that invented that heartrate/age chart. He says he laughs everytime he sees one posted in a gym. He says he developed in in 1968 for.........

  • ...heart patients, and he was just guessing. The best type of cardio training is something called HIIT training..or HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING. I've been doing it since 1997. You push the limits of any zone and then continue on though,..only to drop back again for a short rest...and then push on through again. This type of training is best for increasing your capacity for oxygen uptake. It develops your ability to recupe quickly and then apply yourself quckly again at a higher velocity.

  • This constant pushing of your cardiovascular envelope will increase your VO2 maximum to a higher degree. It will make your body essentially a more efficient fat burner. HIIT cardio is VERY hard and very brief. You can only do it once or twice per week. Any other calories I want to burn after that I simply do easy walking. HIIT training will help you burn fat like nothing else. It developes both your aerobic and anaerobic energy systems to their MAX. It will NOT interfere with muscle gains.

  • good points. so are there any times in exercising besides when you would be at 0% bod fat, that you could start burning muscle?

  • Yes. First, when we say cardio...HIIT cardio or whatever, it has to be intermixed within your whole workout so you're allowed maximum rest between workouts. You don't wan't to OVER-DO hard cardio thoughout any week. Overdoing hard cardio can effect your strength progression and if it really gets over done, strip a bit of muscle from your frame. You don't want that. The other..and most common way that people lose muscle mass is though creating daily caloric deficits that are TOO LARGE.

  • and...what kind of HIIT do you suggest? i mean i know you said only twice a week and i know of course it depends on what goals one is trying to achieve but, for example if running, would you run for 5 mins with a 2 minute slow down and back for another 5 minutes of running and so on...? or would you feel it out as you make progress??

  • Losing fat is a slow process. Trying to keep it to about 1 pound per week insures that your daily caloric deficit...(though exercise, diet or both), does not on too many days exceed 500 cals. Any more then that...on too many days, and your body will feel that you're starving. If it feels you're starving, it will reach for all that lean muscle mass you're carrying on board for energy, and leave the fat alone. So eat just slightly less then you need..keep it to 1 lb. a week and you'll be fine.

  • thanks. youve been a lot of help

  • to build muscle you need protein not calories in itself. For example eag whitey doesn't have pretty mutch any fat and it's protein rich. It is possible, guy in video, professional says so. And i know it also from my experience, your nutrition is key element

  • jes you can, i sure did it :) In 3 month i lost about 10 kg and at same could lift higher dums in gym

  • I can testify to this, I have been doing cardio to lose weight everyday, around 1 hour a day and have not lost any weight. About a month ago I started lifting weights everyday and I dropped my cardio to around three times a week and have lost a considerable amount of weight very quickly.

It's like magic! I just watch some show like dexter or house for an hour and lift for around 30 - 45 minutes of that time before bed and all weight problems just disappear.

  • dude u have like 86434827842546817862848418245648634286148648 videos

  • He's dedicated to helping people, what can I say!

  • Hey Steve! I've been weight training, doing cardio and eating well, last week I lost 3 pounds this week I've lost absoloutely nothing, despite a similar routine. Just wondering if thta is due to muscle gains, and it weighing more than fat accounting for the 0 pounds lost or gained. General feedback appreciated. Thanks you rock!

  • If you are trying to gain muscle while at the same time losing fat then you definately don't want to be losing weight, for the exact reason you just gave. As muscle weighs more than fat, you want to be slowly putting on weight, and soon enough you will begin to see whether your mix of cardio and weights is right by how you look and feel

  • Could be, legaldropout. Here's the test: can you lift more? If yes, than you're gaining muscle. -Sam

  • get a scale that measures fat

  • Hello I read that when you perform Weight training the body cannot tap into fat as an energy source and only cardio can do this?

So if you were to enter a caloric deficit by resistance training, would this not cause the body to enter a Catabolic state?

    I'm new to this so...:)

    Thanks Steve!

  • No. That is totally false.

  • i have been told that when someone loses weight or is in the process of losing weight that lifting weights is bad because the muscle locks the fat in. is that true?

  • No. That is totally false

  • genius!

  • Thank you!

  • Building muscle happens slowly and takes time. BUT it does happen. You just have to be consistent and intense with your workouts. Don't believe anybody who says it happens quicly.

  • Can I build muscle and gain weight quickly? If so, please reply! 17 years old, 5'11, 135lbs..

  • I understand your theory. Once muscle is built there is a certain amount of muscle memory but building real muscle takes time and effort. All that gaining and losing of fat has very little to do with it. The end result will be the same. Just eat normally and lifting regularly.

  • muscle memory? there is no such thing as muscle memory. it starts with the cerebral cortex...and moves to the muscles.

  • There is muscle memory. Probably because strength training increases muscle cell nucleus count from donated satelite cells, increasing the amount of "protein factories" available to each muscle cell, thereby making it easier to rebuild lost muscle mass. There are probably other factors involved too but I think the cell nucleus count that increases which time is a big factor.

  • Muscle memory is reflex, like flicking your knee when it's struck, it's remembered in the grey matter in your spine for shorter travel time & automatic response. You train new memories into it whenever you learn how to do something physical without thinking about it, hence the name.

  • From what I understand it is possible, gaining more muscle than fat while bulking will technically decrease body fat percentage. The only way i know how to do that is to bulk like crazy then diet, or crash diet you will obviosly loose a lot of muscle mass if crash dieting, though. Due to "muscle memory" you can regain the muscle you lost dieting, with what seems to be steroid like gains. You will end up with the same amount of muscle with less body fat. What is your opinion on my hypothesis?

  • i've been thinking about this for few weeks, since i started a healthy diet(need 15kg off), because i read somewhere that the more muscles you have the more mitochondra you will have which produce energy= burn calories. so now i've been power training (upperbody) and feel really good and also can see some muscle showing up :)

    great advice !

  • I have a question, How will my body put on muscle when my diet is calorie deficit? every weight lifting class or health class I have ever taken said if I want to put on muscle I should take in more calories.

  • No reason to give me a thumbs down its an actual question, Steve is the apparent expert on the situation so why not ask him?

  • i know for sure that mitochondria(spelling?) are in muscle cells and they are the energy providers of muscle which burn calories.

that's why i only cardio twice a week and power train 4-5 a week. last month i lost 4-5kg which is pretty impressive, 10 more :)

  • Yeah more calories of protein.

  • Thanks! It did seem like I was receiving quite a few uneducated, immature, and very nasty comments lately. This is one of the reasons I will probably no longer post my episodes on You Tube and begin charging a small fee for my site and my videos. I don't have time now to respond to people who really need help let alone debate rude, ignorant people of any age who are less educated, misinformed, inexperienced, and unwilling to learn.

  • Source?

  • Losing weight through metabolic acitivties INCLUDING THE FORMATION OF MUSCLE is more than possible with a calorie defict. As long as a positive nitrogen balance is maintained AND THIS CERTAINLY CAN OCCUR WITH A CALORIE DEFICIT. As I've said MANY times before ONCE AN INDIVIDUAL'S BODY FAT BECOMES TOO LOW THIS WILL STOP. But 99.9% of people are never going to get there. My prime example is bodybuilders getting ready for a contest. Steve!!!!!!!!!!

  • Proof?

  • Cite some sources if you wanna spew crap that goes against every study performed on what you're talking about.

  • BodyPerformanceTV think of this as a court of law. You are the plaintiff in this case attacking the common knowledge that you need to be on a caloric excess to gain muscle. You must prove why this is wrong, you have the "burden of proof." You cannot just simply say "sorry but you can gain muscle on a caloric deficit" you have to provide conclusive data backing your claim.

  • I am living breathing proof, as an expert witness, so to speak, that you do not need calorie excess to put on muscle.

I have gained muscle on 800, that's right 800 calorie deficits before.

And no, I didn't use steroids or any supplements at all.

  • Sorry, gaining lean mass does not require a caloric excess. This would mean that you can only gain muscle while gaining fat and this is not ture. You can gain weight and not gain fat.

  • No, because you can minimize fat gains while on a bulk, hence the term clean bulk. While bulking, you will not lose fat that you already have on your person, but you can prevent yourself from gaining a lot fat by doing cardio throughout your bulking cycle

  • Care to explain how it's possible to gain weight without providing sufficient substrates and energy to construct what's composing said weight?

When last I checked, that was the definition of a caloric excess. Unless you've mystically discovered how to turn fat into protein (unlikely), there's more wrong here than...well, I'm actually hard pressed to think of a relevant example besides 'nearly everything'.

  • Losing fat requires a caloric deficit. Gaining lean mass requires a caloric excess. Given that you can't have those two concurrently, the only situations in which you can observe both at the same time are during the newbie gains period, and through the use of steroids, both of which are pretty special circumstances, since one happens once for a few months (and is wasted by most) and the other is...well, using steroids.

  • damn right

  • Legend

  • Its all about calories at the right time to increase muscle and loose body fat

  • Wtf, you cant gain muscle and lose fat at the same time... Gaining weight is increasing your calorie intake, and losing weight is the opposite. Why the hell do intelligent looking people make these stupid youtube videos to misinform an already ignorant group of people.

  • Losing weight through metabolic acitivties INCLUDING THE FORMATION OF MUSCLE is more than possible with a calorie defict. • Exactly the question I had.

  • everybody else says yu must eat more than you need to buld muscle is this guy for real

  • I think that you can only loose weight and gain muscles if you are overweight and have never lifted weights before and you start lifting weights and eating less calories than you burn. I think that you should either focus on losing weight or gaining weight. You can gain lean weight(muscles and little or no fat) if you eat healthy food, more calories than you burn and lift weights and do some cardio training if you want to.

  • testing

  • weight training has nothing to do with gaining weight. they only make you more toned or make your muscles bigger, it really deprends what kind of training regimen. eating more calories than you burn is what actually makes you gain the pounds.

  • i agree

  • lost 35 lbs through diet+cardio

with weights i put 14lbs back on

  • if you want to build muscle fast you must intake more calories and if you want to lose fat you must eather find your daily calorie intake and decrease it by around 200 calories or workout more i tend to workout more and eat jsut as much as i used to and its all about staying on your routine of working and changing different excersises keeps you fresh

  • lmao dude ur tripping lowering ur calories to 200 calorie means ur starving urself! and thats crap if u take like 2000 calories a day u cut it down to 1500 be realistic!

  • read what i fucking wrote you fucking douche bag

  • read what u duck! all bullcrap!

  • 200 calories? thats like nothing.. what are you talking about man. I lowered my calorie by 350.. 0.o?

  • it depends on ur weight and age/height :) then u calculate what is the approximate numb of calories u need then cut it down to a minimum that u can handle :)

  • personally anyone who says doing cardio will sap muscle is talking shit! Im not fat but i dont enjoy cardio. However whenever i do cardio i actually gain weight but stay as strong and look more ripped even after one week. You only have to look at most professional atheletes. Its only people who are at their maximum potential that should sacrifice

  • i´m f** ripped right now, my legs,my arms, my face....

    my f** belly still FAT!!

    what!the!hell!

    it´s fucking disgusting

  • do 5 days cardio in the morning dont measure your bodyfat with caliber eat smaller meals but more often i guarantee u you will feel the difference after 1 week.....Luv your Body

  • I lost all my muscle doing this... I got fatter and weaker... With actually only a 200 calorie defecit.

Im a big blob of weakness and fat right now. Wish i never even tried to improve my body.

  • if your a new weight lifter (most people), you will blow your newbie gains if your eating a calorie deficit while heavy lifting. i would cut fat with cardio only keeping your newbie gains for a surpluss of cals. you will gain better with the calories needed to build muscle, the more cals you burn the less cals being used for mass. the trick is to hit a big enough surpluss of cals to produce lean gains and minimal fat

  • Good video this one was spot on.

    Something to add:

Weight training makes microscopic tears in the muscle, which are repaired over the next day (don't worry this is good) So you burn calories while you strain to curl that bell up, or push the bar up.

And additionally, you burn calories when your body recovers from that damage you did to it.

We have smart bodies, when we abuse our muscles, they grow back stronger so they can take it next time.

  • hey im a natural bodybuilder looking to cut up for summer. whats the best way for me to lose all this fat and keep the muscle.

  • think im kiding hum..anyways tks for the help i appreciate

  • steve,i need some advice,i´m 1.80cm 75kg i work out 6 days a week and i´m dieting and doing a lots of cardio,my body fat is now 8% i´v allready lost 5 kg when i was 12% of fat,and i still have a big belly,what should i do? do i have to get real skinny....please,i´m desperate.

  • Not to disappoint you but I don't think you're 8% but YOU"RE DOING GREAT. You need to lose some more body fat so keep doing what you're doing.

  • If you "still have a big belly" miquelqomes23 theres no way you are at 8% bodyfat. Just keep going, the abdominal fat is the hardest to shift and will disappear at around 5-8% bodyfat.

  • If you are 8% I doubt you have a big belly, unless you are using a broken caliber or you are measuring incorrectly.

  • The more of your videos I see, the more I learn. Keep up the good work. However, maybe you need to clarify what a professional bodybuilder really is - A ROIDER who will most likely die in his fifties.

  • I agree completely.

  • thanks alot for these articles. they are excellent and straight to the point.

  • You're welcome.

  • well done. keep making these.

  • I sure will.

  • will i gain just as much muscle mass with

like 500 calories below what i nead as

    if i eat 3-6000calories?

  • ive lost 13 pds steve, thanks to you. and i am going strong!!

  • Thanks for everything Steve! Great info

  • You're my hero, Steve! :-) Another super vid and more great info. I'm on my way to loving my body, largely by taking your advice and direction. Thanks, man!
