  • Hmm. Right you are. Somehow completely missed the date of the incident. Thanks!

  • I remember it was one of the best jets the squadron had. Amazing footage

  • wonder how much and how long it takes to fix a cat on a Carrier?

  • I was there for this. AMAN Pallin... one of the three who got a helo ride to Portsmouth.

  • Why the hell is there a Tomcat on the deck?

Weren't those retired a long time back?

    --Ashish

  • @HelloMisraji This footage was from 2003 if I remember right. So they were in process of being phased out but still in service.

  • fuckin hell

  • Scary stuff

  • yellow shirt = nuts.

  • those guys who work on carriers have incredible reaction speed

  • I was on the USS George Washington CVN 73 when that happened, I was below decks, watching the flight ops on TV at the time. Awesome Video, glad nobody was killed in that one

  • So is that why they say: "All 'hands' on deck"? I'll be here all week folks - unfortunately.

  • Hop Scotch of Death!!

  • That yellow shirt is my son! :)

  • @cbwondra I don't think so.

  • Wow, I've heard of that happening before, but I thought they'd mostly licked such things. Don't they replace the cables every like 20 traps or some such nonsense? I bet if was a problem with the energy absorbing systems belowdecks rather than the cable. But that's just a guess from a landlubber. I do notice that it looks like there's a puff of rusty dust when the cable snaps, and when it hits the red shirts. Maybe there's always some rust in the cables? I wonder if it damaged any planes.

  • @tubeviewerthree There are 4 arresting cables, but not in case they break - it's so they have 4 chances to snag one. The 3-wire (3rd cable, the 1st being the one farthest aft on the ship) is what they want to hit (called an O.K.-3 over the comms and when being judged on their landings).

  • @countdingo 2nd is good too

  • Someone didn't pay the cable bill! :D

  • @jjsandersheli touche

  • @jjsandersheli * puts on sunglasses* Yeeeeahhhhhhh!

  • THAT is one of the very reasons why you throttle UP when you catch a cable- so that if you miss or something goes wrong with the landing cable system, you still have enough speed for flight to go around and try again.

Damn, that must have shaken the pilot a bit. I bet his trust in the cable systems went down a fair share that day.

  • F-18, ARE YOU DUMBASS ?

  • that yellow shirt is cheif p.o hes abord the bush right now, my hubby knows him,

  • when the cable breaks!

  • I was one of the guys in this video, it was something else.

  • thats bad for the pilot, the pilot can only eject a maximum of 3 times usually after which he looses his fast jet career. That sucks.

  • @PlaneAU even when it has nothing to do with him?

  • @deohgesdad yeah, can't prevent spinal injuries no matter what the cause of ejection.

  • @PlaneAU oh.. gotcha. thinkin like bad luck! lol ok

  • @PlaneAU but what if it wasnt has fault, like this situation..

  • I'm Navy DEP for ABH... Yellow jaccet.

  • wow i was on this ship when that happend. it was a day to remember. i was in the galley cooking. cs2 Bland

  • Just to respond to some comments: Yes, they go to full power once they hit the deck incase they miss the cables or hook skip. No, he couldnt take back off because the cable over stretched slowing the aircraft down too much for it to return to flight in the distance allowed. I cant believe it stretched that far before breaking. That could have been a lot worse. Sure millions of dollars went in the drink but people could have literally been cut in half. Amazing.

  • gotta give it to launch n recovery. too bad the AO'S were just chillin not minding their surroundings.

  • @2004XP they afterburn regardless if they trap or miss... but in this case the trap slowed it down too much.. agree with you :)

  • where did you get this video? I was there. One of the 3 in serious condition.

  • sept 11? really?

  • @2004XP Not true, you always increase power landing on a carrier. The wires can take the force of afterburner on trap, in this video there was a fault in the wire for sure.

  • It was always my understanding that they had three arresting cables in the case one broke or am I wrong on that? At any rate it's good to know nobody died. I was once told that ejecting that close - or ejecting at any altitude- wreaks havoc on the pilots body. Watching this video just shows how extremely vigilant those guys must be and how very dangerous it is to work on a carrier.

  • That Yellow must have done some serious jump rope when he was young.

  • this video is teribile.

  • That's why they need to give full throttle. And whoa, that man in yellow is 1 lucky ass!

  • @SoloNetherlands

    not lucky, skilled and fast

  • wow, that's terrifying !
