  • Das, does that mean servant?

  • yes it does, in ancient Sanskrit language...

  • @FantasyFlutes ok. i kind of had to laugh about that when you said that you were Das. nothing against you, its the people at the Sikh temple i go to. when they make an announcement, they always refer to themselves as Das in an attempt to be humble, but it kind of turned into a nickname for them in my family. Thanks though. Where'd you learn how to play flute like that? its magical

  • sir i am new to flutes, i bought one cheap bamboo flute from a ferriwalla , the one you mentioned about overtones by blowing with more pressure, it works but it seems difficult, the change of tone with pressure seems uneven..i cant really explain..is that supposed to be that difficult which should be overcome with practise...or should i get a nice flute... and one more thing..are PVC flutes easier than bamboo flutes?

  • sounds like you need a decent flute, plus practice can't hurt... PvC flutes sound great and are indesctructable, however skill level is the same...

  • Sir, is E minor scale possible on this flute. I'm kinda proficient in that scale.

  • you can play E Minor scale on this G flute by starting with only the first finger of your left hand on the topmost hole. however, E Minor is best played on a D flute, starting on the second hole...

  • You've got indian portrait and whats that blue thing shining? :D

  • the Indian portrait is Goddess Radha, playing the flute she stole from Sri Krishna, and to the right is some kind of lamp, like a lightning bolt in a bottle, and to the left is a Lava Lamp brand thing called Amoeba...

  • I also have 6 hole flute, is it G minor too? Awesome. You rock dude.

  • IRL Hippie. I have wood flute, but it doesn't sound like that.

  • Hey Das! I see you play with your ring finger covering the last hole. My question is that better than playing it with the pinkie finger or just a comfort thing for you? I ask cos I like to play my bamboo flute using the pinkie. Is that a bad habit?

  • using the pinkie is just more comfortable, rather than stretching the ring finger, it is not a bad habit!

  • ive got a few questions:

1)have you made pvc flutes or other materials?

2)on that same flute of the video, how do you play a C#? cuz if the whole before it is just half tone small hole, cross fingering will be out of tune.. half holes only?

3)what about a #G? do you add keys or only half hole for it?

4)do you make standard fingering hole flutes like the baroque one? it is tuned in C but the lowest note is a D and the notes are of D major scale without cross-fingering. it is in C anyway hehe

  • Good Grief my head's gonna explode!!! If you ask me unanswerable questions, I might give you questionable answers...

  • @FantasyFlutes oh.. they are answerable :P at least the first about pvc flutes are, do you make them?

  • I have made many PVC flutes, great tone and indestructible! clear plexiglas is cool too, but the tone isn't as good as PVC...

  • I want to be like this cat when I "grow up"... Hope to see FantasyFlutes @ a festival in the US someday banging away on the bansuri

  • Very good ... - Finally you showed what it is ... thank you sir :-)

  • dear das... u're videos are amazing... i see u play a six hole flute...but my mom recently got me an eight hole flute...and i have no idea how to play it.....i'd really appreciate it if u'd tell me how :)))

  • well for starters, locate 8 fingers that will go on the 8 holes... and begin blowing across the mouth hole like there's no tomorrow... then twiddle your fingers like mad... and Keep On Tooting...

  • I love you!

  • waw iwanna do that ;o

  • Very very very nice

  • hey prabhu thanks a lot! im from argentina i am lerning to play flute for myself , its hard...

thanks for u help! hare krishn!

  • Ok..if you could do this video again for my 8 year old son...we would be tickled pink! He has taken an interest in learning how to play my six hole and wants to learn the "Zelda" tunes. They are so cute and the kids love them. Let me know if you have any videos for kids or simpletons like me. wonderful work guy!

  • \/\/ O \/\/ ........nice !

  • Dear Das, I've noticed in this video, as well as in several others, that the flute you're playing has got a 45-degree cut at the open end. Would you be so kind as to explain why so? thanx, bye.

  • Ultimate Profound Explanation -- it makes the flute look cool. It's a LOT of extra work, but I do it whenever the flute allows it, and is a bit of a trademark for me...

  • @Peppaccio666 one flute i made with pvc pipe, i cut the ending like a v like this >=====o=i

it looks cool, but in my case the sound was a little different, and i liked it. unfortunately it was a gift and i dont have it anymore :)

  • I'm on the Firesign Theater side of the fence, can't relate to Cheech and Chong at all, they're always telling stupid dope jokes that are funny to dopers who are dopes because their head is full of poisonous dope smoke...

  • I agree with you brother! Your flutes are so Great that they create a Natural High! I Love the Four I got from you!

  • Ah -- finally someone who GETS IT...

  • Comment removed

  • this is the weirdest comment ever -- I have NOTHING to do with dope of any sort, 'cause dope is for dopes... get high on Life, man, it's the high from which you Never Come Down...

  • OHHHHH!! wonderfull thanks you very much for this videos!!!!

  • nice video..Guru Das.. i have bansuri of E Major.. do u have lessons using E flute

  • The lessons as posted are played on a G flute, but you can hear me explaining that these same techniques will work on any key flute, the fingerings are the same, just ignore the different notes of the G flute when I describe them. You can easily play my same lessons on your E flute or any 6-hole diatonic flute or bansuri.

  • Watched your first out of seven. It is very informative. I am flute learner, hope these videos will help me. Plese do upload some more videos. Thanks
