It's hard to search for the info. I almost gave it up.

Among my Granddad's personal possessions when he died in 1986 was a tattered programme of Cavelleria Rusticana. The performance was in Italy and the date was right in the middle of the Second World War. This song makes me think of him, but also how those troops that saw this performance must have felt witnessing such soul-moving beautiful music whilst embroilled in the operations of one of the ugliest moments in humanity's history.
