I own a T500 .. Specs are roughly the same as your T400 just a dual core at 2.53. I play games all the time with no issue. I cant run a few more demanding games at max resolution, but it sure as hell gets the job done. mw2 runs pretty good.. so unless your super picky about running every game you play at maximum resolution.. this a pretty damn good portable gaming device, despite its actual intended use.. which is to get work done, not dick around.
Sure the T400 can, but it doesn't necessarily equate to it should. I've noticed there are a number of freeze ups graphically when playing stuff on hulu, which is quite a ways a way from being as resource heavy as a game, so who knows
the reason y ur T400 sucks at gaming is cuz it has integrated graphics (not discrete graphics). T400 laptops equipped with ATI 256MB are decent game performers.
my t400 comes with mcafee antivirus trial version, which has expired long time ago(never renew).. i discover that mcafee actually make my computer slow for certain exent, though i dunno y. Thinking of changing antivirus, i'm glad to hear some recommendations from you.
a good permanent (self updating, no fees) completely free anti virus program is Avast Anti-virus home edition. AVG and Panda are ok but they have lots of false positives. (Avast does to but not as many as AVG and Panda). When you uninstall mcafee remember to go into the C: drive -> program files and delete the "McAfee" folder in there for a more complete deletion (uninstall with the uninstaller first).
my lenovo t400 2.4ghz, 4gbddr3 is taking longer boot up time than before. moreover, occasionally internet explorer will just stop working (not responding) how come like that? do i need to reformat my computer ? what makes it so slow? i'm eager to know..
There are a few troubleshoots you can do. First are you running a lot of programs, or have you installed a lot of programs, drivers, new hardware, software updates, etc...? If not try a virus scan, if it comes clean, try doing a disk cleanup and or disk defragmentation (I use CCleaner and Smart DeFrag respectively
Thanks so much for the T400 review and this video. I especially appreciated the detailed RAM / OS description.
How does the power brick size up in dimensions and portability? It seems like this is the one thing Dell has on everyone in terms of integrating a spool-like shape into most of their power bricks so that they are easily transported.
Could you release a video of you holding it with your hands and or hold it up? I want to see the size comparison it a actual person. I would also like if you could measure the actual dimensions.
the dimensions of the computer are in the side bar (13.5 inches across, 10.5 inches front to back including the back of the 9 cell battery and 1.5 inches top to bottom) As for the video, I'll try but will you find it really useful?
Hey, crapdarappa, I got the T400!! I'm just wondering, you know the blue tape in the back that you pull under the battery cover? I ripped that off.... will that effect the hardware in any way? Thanks.
nope, you needed to to put the battery in...now if there's still glue there, you might wanna get an adhesive remover that is meant for electronics to gently coax it off.
Hi. I have a question about the sound quality. T400 uses conexant smartaudio 21 audio chip. How does the sound quality compare to say an ideapad with dolby surround sound? Not with built-in speakers but headphones or external speakers of course =P Thanks!
ok youtube is being odd and not letting me load a video, so a quick answer. The T400 is a business computer so the sound isn't as good as a consumer minded Ideapad, even when going to high quality peripherals. either invest in an expresscard sound card for the t400 or sacrifice thinkpad reputation and IBM support for the Ideapad. Hope this helped.
That is true. Thanks for your info! I'm just going to use headphones or a small pair of speakers so I don't think the sound card will make that big of a difference so I'm probably going t o stick w/ the T400!
Thanks a lot! Very informative. I would've probably ended up having 4gigs of Ram on a 32 BIT OS! Just one last question. Do 1DIMM sticks come in 2gb's or only 1gb? Thanks for the help and great reply video.

I have a Dell Power brick from '06, a Dell Power brick slim from '08 and of course the Lenovo brick. In Inches
Dell 65w/hr brick from '06 is 5.75 long 2.25 wide and 1.5 deep
Dell 95 w/hr slim from '08 is 5.5 long 2.25 wide and 1.25 deep
Lenovo 65 w/hr brick is 4 long 1.5 wide and 1.25 deep.
Lenovo has the smaller footprint, but both Dell's have roughly 4 in. more cord length
weight wise, the slim and lenovo are nearly the same.
Thanks for watching, if you have more questions feel free to ask

Wow, thats pretty small compared to Dell's.
Thanks!

I'll put up a sound test soon, as sound quality is subjective.

1 DIMM 2 GB would be the same as 2 DIMM 2GB
the difference is
1 DIMM has 1 slot filled with a 2GB stick and an empty one
2 DIMM has both slots filled with a 1 GB stick
there is a 1 DIMM 4GB but that's not only super rare on a laptop but expensive :P
