That debate at a long table was meant to be uncomfortable, and meant to reflect similar conversations going on between the USA and USSR. In fact, the whole movie had parallels, and if the viewer doesn't understand this, they are a loathsome idiot; I saw the movie at 8 years old and understood it, and I thought it was great. I hate that this country is driven by simpletons...
ok i thought the movie was fabulous. it was a wonderful in sight on the world of star trek. if you were never into it before it could most deffinatly get you into it now. Nothing is going to be just like the original. they are being a bunch of cry babies. we are lucky that they made it THIS good. no it is not EXACTLY like the other treks. but JJ abrams did a wonderful job on it.
I did think the film had a bit much in the way of lens flare, and the nacelles on the new enterprise look gawdy, but the story was good enough and the action was good too. I guess the message is that we all have something in common (Kirk and Spock, 2 sides of the same coin)? Roddenberry's message was one about humanity and human affairs, so the new movie fulfills this to a degree. As somebody who appreciates the show and some of the other movies, I think the new movie is just fine.
very good movie, not always can it be exactly like the original, it helps to have an open mind and realize its a hope for a better future. i love the old star trek most but when TNG came out i didn't watch it for the first couple years, i was upset it wasn't exactly like the old I soon realized it was just as good as TOS, you just have to try to be open.
After seeing the movie, i thought it was a very good movie in almost all aspects, the acting was great the story was good and the effects were superb. However despite this, and like you, i felt that the movie wasn't star trek. I'm not saying that it should have been like what this video was suggesting but the while alternate timeline through out almost 40 years of star trek that ive grown to know and love. I just kinda find that a bit hard to except : /
The old series rocked, this movie rocked & all the movies (except V, VIII) rocked. Or soemthing like that. I cant remember which movie it was that sucked. Anyways, ST in general rocks!
WHo cares what old Treks seen? I would NEVER i mean NEVER tuned in to old star trek. I'd rather watch an egg boil, then J.J Abrams comes along the lighter which shots up the firework of a once dead series.... THANK YOU J.J (on bended knee), THANK YOU CHRIS, ZACH AND ZOE. FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE 21ST CENTURY! Can't wait for the sequel.....
Well, I'm a huge trekkie and I loved the movie. It was great. But startrek is supposed to be civilized. This movie had not much talking as fighting. But then again(DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE'NT SEEN IT YET) it is a different time line.
Ummm... you guys know that the onion is a fake news website, right? And that these "Trekkies" aren't actual fans, but people that were filmed specifically for this fake news broadcast?
I'M a trkkie and dude ... the movie was good still i prefer the old ones but i have to admit the movie was actually very good and the actor who made of captain kirk was so hot :D now i can dream of making out with Kirk yeeeeeeeyy cause having the same dream with Shatner ... well it's gross :B
The Trekkies need to chill...no matter how much you hate it, at least it not a Star Wars: Phantom Menace. Then you could really cry about how your favorite childhood sci-fi genre was distroyed for money. haha
These report didn't exactly get their facts right. The Star Trek was made by Gene Roddenberry not in the 40's but in the 60's. The movie was too short for me. I did like the actions but I do hope in the next movie if there is,..Spock will be more Logical than emotions.
The move was masterful in its composition: all the parts came together to make a prequel without equal. Being 'old-school', I have to say, I readily accepted the actors as the old characters. I would have never dreamed it possible. Great job.
The movie was actually pretty awesome. One of the best movies I've seen in awhile, as a matter of fact. It isn't all special effects and a random colaboration of young actors either, but i can't explain it, it just has to be seen.
I'll comment more extensively once I've seen the movie--but I don't like what I'm hearing about the series being "revived" by moving it into a whole new timeline. I'm not a big-time trekkie, but Trek has a solid legacy that has been carefully preserved through all its manifestations. I like the Trek universe the way it is, and don't want to see it's established history scrubbed.
This was hilarious. But to be fair, presenting it as either fun action or "heavy-handed social commentary" is a false choice. Even though the Trek serious did feature episodes with forced, obvious metaphors, still, classics like TOS's "The City on the Edge of Forever" and TNG's "The Inner Light" were moving human stories with NO reliance on slam-bang action.
I like the fans at the beginning. I must admit when I was watching the film I was like "this is not canon" but afterwards i was like "hold on, sexy stars and special effects, half original staff are dead, wtf am i complaining about!!!"
We real trek fans have been suffering this slap in the face humiliation for YEARS! Star trek the movie: where Nomad has gone before SLAP! ST:mov 3&5 SLAP! TNG series oh cool. TNG generations cool TNG first contact, insurection, nemesis SLAP! DS9:cool..ut oh season 7 SLAP! VOYAGER SLAP! ENTERPRISE SLAP! TOS REMASTERED (some ok BUT) SLAP! WHY ?!
Con't: I only know 3 people in my area here that are true Star Trek fans, and that's about it. Theres no clubs or anything for Star Trek, but theres a whole region dedicated to Star Wars.
I think the new movie and possibly movies will help people start realizing why all the fans loved it before. Because if they make the newer movies its said to have more character development instead of all the action in the current one.
Okay, I am a trekkie, or star trek fan if thats what you want to call it, and I am not upset by this movie like everyone else. If they are going to make a new star trek, of course its not going to be low budget and look exactly like the old star trek. I am excited to see this reboot and I love most of the actors that were cast.
I hope the fans do not bash on it too much because I want to see more being made. It's a new time and lets face it, most fans are not even fans anymore.

Apparently The Onion takes a jooke and present it like a seriious news report, a bit like "Brass Eye" over here
So when she says "...created sometime in the 40s" - they know it was the 60s, but that's not as funny, apparently
