  • to both of these assholes:

    Die in a fire.

  • Not enough lens flares in this video.

  • I thought the new film was cool. I've seen all the old stuff and this was definitely a shot in the arm.

  • funny as hell!! Also, I speak Klingon, so get off it, it was a spoof, duh!!

  • I don't know...I just have a problem taking people dressed up like make believe people....

  • Lol!!

  • Wow. Trekkies have been hounded for so many years and if this is true, I can see why

  • God, this is meant to be a joke. I'm a super Startrek fan and Thought that this was very funny. Calm down.

  • That debate at a long table was meant to be uncomfortable, and meant to reflect similar conversations going on between the USA and USSR. In fact, the whole movie had parallels, and if the viewer doesn't understand this, they are a loathsome idiot; I saw the movie at 8 years old and understood it, and I thought it was great. I hate that this country is driven by simpletons...

  • how do you think i felt when they turned my favorite book series into a movie. they didnt get 1 thing right.

  • ok i thought the movie was fabulous. it was a wonderful in sight on the world of star trek. if you were never into it before it could most deffinatly get you into it now. Nothing is going to be just like the original. they are being a bunch of cry babies. we are lucky that they made it THIS good. no it is not EXACTLY like the other treks. but JJ abrams did a wonderful job on it.

  • I did think the film had a bit much in the way of lens flare, and the nacelles on the new enterprise look gawdy, but the story was good enough and the action was good too. I guess the message is that we all have something in common (Kirk and Spock, 2 sides of the same coin)? Roddenberry's message was one about humanity and human affairs, so the new movie fulfills this to a degree. As somebody who appreciates the show and some of the other movies, I think the new movie is just fine.

  • I was disappointed that Sulu seemed not GAYish!!! LOL....

  • @DarthMai well, he does admit to "advanced fencing training".

  • I have noticed that there aren't many "Trekies" commenting on this video with all the negativity about the new moviel

  • very good movie, not always can it be exactly like the original, it helps to have an open mind and realize its a hope for a better future. i love the old star trek most but when TNG came out i didn't watch it for the first couple years, i was upset it wasn't exactly like the old I soon realized it was just as good as TOS, you just have to try to be open.

  • Everything they say in this parody is actually true.

I HATE the new star trek movie. The new star trek movie IS NOT STAR TREK!

  • After seeing the movie, i thought it was a very good movie in almost all aspects, the acting was great the story was good and the effects were superb. However despite this, and like you, i felt that the movie wasn't star trek. I'm not saying that it should have been like what this video was suggesting but the while alternate timeline through out almost 40 years of star trek that ive grown to know and love. I just kinda find that a bit hard to except : /

  • je suis trop fan de star trek

  • What is this? Satire? It's great. I couldn't help laughing: "Three hours of the characters standing around discussing ..."

  • The old series rocked, this movie rocked & all the movies (except V, VIII) rocked. Or soemthing like that. I cant remember which movie it was that sucked. Anyways, ST in general rocks!

  • "I'm just really, really disappointed that this storyline made sense." :-D :-D ROFL

  • This is genius....

and I'm a Star Trek fan

  • lol, they just had to use that "Arena" fight didn't they, TOS never did live that one down...

I love the "eye on Hollywood" caption at 1:48... still as lame as ever, haha!

  • LOL sarcasm at its best

    i loved the movie!

  • I saw the movie twice and I liked it. I'm not like these idiots who whin, cry and complain like a Ferengi.

  • The nerds are angry LOL

  • LOL!

  • fuck you, The Onion

  • IN time you will find that having is not as satisfying as wanting, not logical but often true.-Spock from "Amok time"

  • What the hell happened to Shitner?!

  • Well, I'm a huge trekkie and I loved the movie. It was great. But startrek is supposed to be civilized. This movie had not much talking as fighting. But then again(DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE'NT SEEN IT YET) it is a different time line.

  • here we go again...

  • Ummm... you guys know that the onion is a fake news website, right? And that these "Trekkies" aren't actual fans, but people that were filmed specifically for this fake news broadcast?

  • I'M a trkkie and dude ... the movie was good still i prefer the old ones but i have to admit the movie was actually very good and the actor who made of captain kirk was so hot :D now i can dream of making out with Kirk yeeeeeeeyy cause having the same dream with Shatner ... well it's gross :B

Good luck and prosper :D \\//

  • chill man

  • The Trekkies need to chill...no matter how much you hate it, at least it not a Star Wars: Phantom Menace. Then you could really cry about how your favorite childhood sci-fi genre was distroyed for money. haha

  • ok i am a trekkie and i loved the film people GROW UP

  • people, it's THE ONION, ITS NOT REAL? OKAY?

  • You... you mean Star Trek is... not real?

  • Of course not - although Galaxy Quest is real!

  • You're wasting your time. You could say that it is.. futile.

  • lmao a fan was dissapointed cos it made sense is he retarted?

  • These report didn't exactly get their facts right. The Star Trek was made by Gene Roddenberry not in the 40's but in the 60's. The movie was too short for me. I did like the actions but I do hope in the next movie if there is,..Spock will be more Logical than emotions.

  • This report was a piss-take.

Apparently The Onion takes a jooke and present it like a seriious news report, a bit like "Brass Eye" over here

So when she says "...created sometime in the 40s" - they know it was the 60s, but that's not as funny, apparently

  • a.k.a Sarcasm

  • Yeah it's called satire. They know it was really made in the 60's, they are being sarcastic.

  • omg shutup you fucking idiot

  • The move was masterful in its composition: all the parts came together to make a prequel without equal. Being 'old-school', I have to say, I readily accepted the actors as the old characters. I would have never dreamed it possible. Great job.

  • Holy shit i thought that first interview was a dude!!!!

  • collaboration*

    :P

  • The movie was actually pretty awesome. One of the best movies I've seen in awhile, as a matter of fact. It isn't all special effects and a random colaboration of young actors either, but i can't explain it, it just has to be seen.

  • I'll comment more extensively once I've seen the movie--but I don't like what I'm hearing about the series being "revived" by moving it into a whole new timeline. I'm not a big-time trekkie, but Trek has a solid legacy that has been carefully preserved through all its manifestations. I like the Trek universe the way it is, and don't want to see it's established history scrubbed.

  • well said.

  • This was hilarious. But to be fair, presenting it as either fun action or "heavy-handed social commentary" is a false choice. Even though the Trek serious did feature episodes with forced, obvious metaphors, still, classics like TOS's "The City on the Edge of Forever" and TNG's "The Inner Light" were moving human stories with NO reliance on slam-bang action.

This was still a funny bit.

  • I like the fans at the beginning. I must admit when I was watching the film I was like "this is not canon" but afterwards i was like "hold on, sexy stars and special effects, half original staff are dead, wtf am i complaining about!!!"

  • I love pretty much all previous Trek, but to be honest, the new film was a bit too much MTV for me. Pure muscles, no brain.

Despite that, I thought this clip was pretty damn funny!

  • ahhhhh, "satire".

    best served lukewarm.

  • New movie's awesome. Get over it.

  • There actually was a heavy handed message about tolerance (O:

  • So Darth Vador isn't in the new movie?

  • Vader. and BRILLIANT!!

i know i smelled some Lucas, sizzling.......

  • Darth Vader? Where the hell is Megatron? Why isn't the Decepticon Leader invading planets?

  • Hilarious!

Haven't seen The Onion in a while but this resurrected my appreciation of it.

It they wanted to really capture coverage of it, they should have pronounced it "Star Track".

    FADM Talos Keiran

    Star Trek; Phoenix

  • This is really funny.

  • We real trek fans have been suffering this slap in the face humiliation for YEARS! Star trek the movie: where Nomad has gone before SLAP! ST:mov 3&5 SLAP! TNG series oh cool. TNG generations cool TNG first contact, insurection, nemesis SLAP! DS9:cool..ut oh season 7 SLAP! VOYAGER SLAP! ENTERPRISE SLAP! TOS REMASTERED (some ok BUT) SLAP! WHY ?!
  • Voyager Is Great! Just have to get into it.

And this new movie is also Great!

  • Ohhh what blatent stumping for this JJ abrams crap tastic hallmark of NOT getting trek in all it old REAL TOS glory.

  • lol!

  • "Gene Roddenberry created the Star Trek television show way back in the 40's or something"

    Someone please criticize this quote!

  • Why ?

  • Twas created in the 60's my friend.

Mind you, it's The Onion and not a real news report as you say.

  • Exactly. it's the Onion.

That's why they said it was in the 40's or something. To show how they don't care, it doesn't matter etc etc

And that's why it didn't really need criticizing ;)

  • Yes I know. I have seen the show before.

I was just stating my opinion. Sorry if it came off strong.

  • Relax guys. It's The Onion...

It's just a fun, satirical video. Not a real news report.

  • Con't: I only know 3 people in my area here that are true Star Trek fans, and that's about it. Theres no clubs or anything for Star Trek, but theres a whole region dedicated to Star Wars.

I think the new movie and possibly movies will help people start realizing why all the fans loved it before. Because if they make the newer movies its said to have more character development instead of all the action in the current one.

  • Okay, I am a trekkie, or star trek fan if thats what you want to call it, and I am not upset by this movie like everyone else. If they are going to make a new star trek, of course its not going to be low budget and look exactly like the old star trek. I am excited to see this reboot and I love most of the actors that were cast.

I hope the fans do not bash on it too much because I want to see more being made. It's a new time and lets face it, most fans are not even fans anymore.

  • I agree! I'm a Star Trek fan and I like what they've done with this new movie and cant wait to see it this friday!

  • I wanna see these guys burn. I hate the fans, they are so closed minded.

  • Not everyone is like that.
