  • I'm just discovering this band, always heard praise on the Pretty Things but now I truly dedicated myself to *listen* to them, and Parachutes is even more compelling than the incredible SF Sorrow. Talk about another overlooked band. Fantastic stuff.

  • If you love this and Pete's guitar playing I beg you to check out his guitar playing on their single from the early 70's , 'October 26th'. A fantastic song with some of the most amazing 'wah' guitar you will EVER hear! (Its available on the Snapper reissue of 'Parachute' as an extra track). The 'B' side 'Cold Stone' is also superb!

  • If you didn't catch them in the 70's, you can still hear them today. These same four guys are still playing together, they are now called The XPTs, and they've just re-recorded this song on their new CD "Parachute Reborn" to be released in April 2012 on Cherry Red's Esoteric Label - check out their video of this song on YouTube - "Sickle Clowns by The XPTs".

  • I heard this on Deep Tracks a couple of weeks ago and recently downloaded from itunes. Holy Shit, what a great song. I can't stop listening to it. Like somebody else said, where was in the 70's when these guys were playing?

  • dude!

  • original punk garage, before it had even been invented. Most underated band ever. This album is in my top 3 of all time. And they're still going. Wish they'd come back to New Zealand. Phil, all is forgiven by our Government [wankers]

  • The Pretties were always the best. Few knew them back in the early 70's and that was the big shame. Good to see new fans thanks to this video.

  • Heard .this for the firs time on Deep Tracks the other day, where was i in 1970 to miss this band?

  • Yes, it's definitely Pete Tolson. He joined the bamnd in May 1970. Dick Taylor left in June 1969.

Completely different styles check out the other videos

  • Hi, Earinsound, Phil never sang this song. This is Wally on vocals.

This band (minus Phil) has just re-recorded Parachute, the album that Sickle Clowns came from. CD will be available soon. Keep yer eyes peeled

  • Where's Phil?...y'know...the SINGER

  • Love it to bits...still...and they're still doing it. They got banned from here in New Zealand way back in the 60's. OMG, how I'd love them to come back, all is forgiven haha

  • Are you 100% sure the lead guitarist is Pete Tolson ? Where is Dick Taylor then ? Having a glass of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the nearest Paris café ?

I read somewhere Tolson only joined the band in 1978...

  • What a great video. I wonder if there is a full concert video of this.

One of my favorite songs by them.I have almost all their music.

    Thanks for posting this...TQ

  • SO refreshing to see a rock band stand there and play hard and awesome

and yet not jump around like stupid idiot showoffs!

  • yes the pretties is here .

when you realease the new record ?

    i 'll be back .

  • Bought this album in early 70s still sounds great

  • After "SF Sorrow," my favorite Pretty Things music.

  • Where's Phil. Did he pop out for more drugs. This gem from one of the best bands ever. And still going. This song is dedicated to 'Easy Rider' Love it to bits

  • The beauty and the rawness. I wish I was sitting in the audience, that would have been a mind blower to hear this in person.

  • it's a good thing they evolved into this awesome hard rock act

  • The Pretty Things were simply a musical phenomenon! incomparable!

  • How does Pete make the "sound" at the end of 1:18 - beginning of 1:19? it's like a pause but he does something in it

  • Awesome!

  • Awesome!

  • Wally is singing

  • Cool beyond words.

  • Great to see this video, I'm so glad their is live footage of such a great period for the pretty things I think parachute is a very influential album see pink floyd, led zep even Brit pop. They are probs the most underrated band ever

  • Fantastic blues jam of the highest grade!

  • Here`s the Daddie!!!!!

  • This video is without doubt one of The Pretty things finest live performances from the Paris Olympia early 70s and without Phil May.

    trevorbeardsmore

  • Ok, now you throw in the killer wah-wah break at 5:45...hay-soos-friggin-krist!!! This is one of the best vids I have seen in a long time!!!!!

  • Oh yeah...the guitar break at 2:42!!!!! That sound is unreal.

  • Jeez, WTF??? That guitar break at 1:15-1:18 friggin' kills!!!!

  • Peter Tolson was a guitarist's fantasy! like a hybrid of Clapton and Hendrix on their best day!

  • drummer's got a nice christmas sweater....tolson's playing like he's got a concrete mustache in his brain

  • i've been staying away from listening to these kind of psychedelic-long-long-blusy-jams for ages. but, coincidently i came across with this vid that made me re-evaluate these guys, who's obviously exceeding any other their contemporary band such as Grateful Dead, Cream, Jefferson Airplane or even Hendrix's Experience!!! What a brilliant guitar player Peter Tolson is!!! Incredible!!!

  • those old marshalls sound fuckin ace

  • They fucking burned it down there at the end.

  • Whatever happened to Peter Tolson? Such a good player surely he's still out there playing somewhere? Too good not to be. Would love to hear him play live again.

  • they dont come close these days

  • Peter Tolson absolute guitar god.

  • This vid obviously exists somewhere. What would one need to do to get a copy? I wish it would be released in Dolby Surround blu-ray. I may be dead by then.

  • Gawd, this needs to be on a cd with a dvd as well. Pete Tolson was an incredible guitarist. I wonder what ever happened to him? He shreds Rain pretty well, too. Love these vids.

  • what's the old saying? good music is like good porn, you know it when you hear it!

  • Thanks for posting this amazing clip!

Hats off to Tolson eh? - His contribution to what is a fairly pedestrian album track is incredible.

  • thank you dovdrummer! I'm so thrilled this video is back, these guys were so brilliant! long live The Pretty Things! they rule

  • This guuitarist has great tone, feel and phrasing. A gem.

  • I saw a while back that this video had been removed - glad to see it back, I think it's one of the best pieces of rock music
