If you think racism is a "done" issue, check out what recently happened in Mississippi. A black father, minding his own business, was brutally beaten and then run over by a pickup truck by a group of proud young white teenagers. That is blatant, especially in comparison to the ethnic name hiring discrimination and criminal justice system discrimination that I mentioned in earlier posts. We ALL have more work to do, because of the bad apples in the bunch.

I think you missed the point. "do the right thing" It's in the title. The right thing to do does not reflect the ending of the film. The entire film focuses on symbolizing the frustration (heat). everyone was at their lowest point.

I think the only people who are racist either have overlying psychological problems, or are born into it. Basically people whose lives have something missing from it, they feel that by tormenting someone over something that they can't control will fill the void in their heart. Some people are brainwashed by their racist parents to be racist. They aren't racist because they want to be, they are racist because their parents are. This movie was made in 1989... Drawing attention to this issue was much more relevant than it is today. In all honesty though murka if you are doing a paper on this movie you should focus less on what you talked about in this video and more on putting yourself contextually in Brooklyn/New York during the late 1980s and providing a social commentary based on what you find.

Why is it wrong that Spike Lee can make a point in a movie? That's kind of the point of film. I don't think he was ever trying to demonize Sal or "the white man." I think you should be angry at how the characters reacted to the situations, not Spike Lee. Perhaps it was about the over-reaction of some black activists.
