Bellmer crafted the dolls not only as political protest, but also as an expression (and outlet) for his pedophilia. He explicitly stated so. Why so often is this merely alluded to?
Uncomfortable as it may be to the spectator of his art, it is an important element to understanding his work - as he explores recurring themes which thus become interchangeable.
He was an influential artist who never denied his intentions. His frank approach to define his works should be acknowledged, not evaded.
@dIIlIIb Very good comment. Man Ray is also similar. I have hesitated to actually acquire original artwork by Bellmer and Man Ray for these reasons. I do find them sometimes here in Paris.
Never made a video that much impact on me. Very impressive. I always was a big fan of the ' degenerate ' But for some reason was never familiar with Bellmer.
I've recognized bellmers sculpture art in an interview/ making of of silent hill II (PC & console survival-horror game by konami jap.). Obviously the dev team got inspired by bellmers "la poupee". The characters look almost the same and always were the most disturbing kind of enemy in that game.
