Both sides in the Israeli-Arab disputes made very unbecoming moves, so I don't like either side that much, but I don't support making up stuff simply to use as ammunition against one's opposing side.
The main reason for the US to support Israel is idea that it helps with regional stability, but I think that's open to debate.

The most important role for Israel was securing the Suez Canal for Western interests. Concerning energy, that's true issue of the decades for shipping oil. I think when your talking about something like full-blown military invasion like in Gaza or Iraq, you'd see more of a mixture of motives. With Palestinians, Israel has been in conflicts before, you did have a few missile attacks coming from Gaza, and most Israelis didn't support a Palestinian state. With Iraq one has an old US enemy, plus old and new fears of WMDs and terrorists, and a nice little buffet of oil fields.

Both sides in the Israeli-Arab disputes made very unbecoming moves, so I don't like either side that much, but I don't support making up stuff simply to use as ammunition against one's opposing side.
The main reason for the US to support Israel is idea that it helps with regional stability, but I think that's open to debate.

These claims are ridiculous. For most critics, at least (John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky, Jimmy Carter to name but a few) the legitimacy of Israel's existence is manifestly *not* in question - they all agree that Israel has the legitimate right to exist. And indeed it *is* Israeli policy that is being questioned, not whether Israel has a "right to exist" (whatever that means) or not.

A great campaign to improve Israel's image, in my mind, would involve the removal of all Israeli settlements in illegally held pre-June 1967 land, and also ceasing the frequent murder of Palestinians, and providing reparations to those who's land and resources were stolen.
