If she looks up anymore, shes gonna start lookin like the undertaker

  • @StyleSessions does she have a very slight squint in her eye?

  • @StyleSessions ha, ha, ha, great observation. Made my day that comment

  • I reckon that it's because Sarah's got a 'funny' left eye and that's the way to hide it

  • @StyleSessions I think she is looking at 'Chocky'

  • @StyleSessions

    She's squint-eyed little bit, that's why...

  • forgotten how hot she is

  • Can't believe this song is from the mid 1990s, it's so fresh!

  • One of the very best ever forever!! Supperplusgood!!!!

  • St Etienne, totally underrated in Britain as they were regarded as Europop. Is it exaggeration to say that they were as good as Blondie? (maybe just a bit less good)

  • this takes me back, hopefully hear it in ibiza next year

  • Yay, great song.

  • et dire qu en france on est passé à coté de cette merveille !!!!!so glamour !

  • She's strange-looking, but very, very classy. The plastic whores of today's pop could learn from her.

  • * * * * *

  • omg my mates uncle is in this band lol!!!

  • Sarah Cracknell can be "très chic" and simple at the same time. And that's the reason why she's not on the media... Too good for the spotlights.

  • Great tune.

Made even better by the fact Sarah Cracknell is stunning!!! SCHWING!!!

  • Long live the 90's

    I'd completely forgotten about Motiv8...!

    Rockin for myself BABY!

  • yea rockin for myself Capella, 49ers, Royal T, ...FFRR, ZYX records, Motiv8 remixes, sorta more or less sums up what i was spinning back then. Of course i was slipping the hardcore riffs and trance in too when i could get away with it.

  • @FINALFANTASYTVdotCOM omigod, yes i'd forgotten about them too, that WAS a classic.

  • wot a load of fuckin shite!!!!!! give the fuckin cat a chance man for gords sake!

  • He's not on the phone very long.

  • Les Etienne's usually dafty disco combined with the amusing spoken bit

from a formerly forgotten French pop star.

[My sister spent a semester studying in Provence & her host brother's Etienne

Daho tapes cracked her up! :)]

  • @SpiritOf1989 Actually, this song is a cover of Etienne Daho's "Week end à Rome"

(1984). So he has done a little bit more than "the amusing spoken bit" : he wrote the song.

And it's not forgotten at all in France. He stil making albums that are appreciated (though i'm not a big fan).

  • Oh, those times. Where are they now?

  • Saint Etienne was still recording in 2006.. and Sarah Cracknell has had a solo project, but I haven't heard anything since then. I think Sub Pop records still handles them here in the states.

  • Fucking hell, this takes me back. Cheese on toast, but utterly cr-edible. How the fuck does that work?

  • I can't believe it's not but ter

  • 'Cos it's a timeless classic. It's nearly 20 years old. Makes you feel old.

  • CLASSIC!!

  • who sang it first , Princessa or St. Etienne?

    I think Princessa...

  • Check out Etienne Daho's 'Week-end a Rome' and compare.

  • Waouuu,Remember the theme.

    Spectacular Quality.

    Very elegant electronic theme.

  • Great song. Dreadful video though. Yeah just look up and to the left every 10 seconds Sarah. Then we'll intersperse that with some rubbish street walking footage.

  • In fact, in some places she is looking to the right..

  • great song.havent heard it in ages

  • Smoth song, like candy for the ears.

  • brill

  • This was the first ever song I converted from CD to MP3 :-) I heard it and had to have it back in 1994 or 5. I converted it at work and took it home on a huge pile of floppy discs as an mp3 :-) I bought all their albums and subscribed to Clenbuterol. I love Saint Etienne!

Nice to see some videos to complement the music and to see Sarah! Real music with some soul is rare with the X-Factor w@nk that's being pushed out in the noughties!

  • such a feel good tune and great lyrics.

  • me & ma dad had met her shes called Sarah Cracknall

  • been looking for this song for a while, didn´t knew its name. Cool. Those were the times where radios used to play MUSIC.

  • Oh i love this!

  • this song took me 5 months to find it drove me nuts lol

  • what do you expect? christ

  • @AdmiralBirdseye

Actually...contemporary pop is becoming more like dance music, and dance music is becoming more like pop. Calvin Harris, David Guetta, etc etc. These sounds are coming back around again, so how can it sound dated?

  • I love this song, mid nineties? I'm sure I once heard St Etienne on the radio doing a cover of Jackie Lee's White Horses (the theme song from the classic kids tv series that I used to watch in the seventies, but i can't seem to find the track anywhere. Did I imagine I heard it?

  • To MegaRapture, yes their are english, no doubt, but this song is a cover of "week end à Rome" from the french singer Etienne Daho.

And please, get to know french artists, some of them are really good, like Sebastien Tellier, Noir Désir, Daho, Alain Bashung,...and Gainsbourg of course. To finish, yes they got their name from the french football team who ruled the french league in the 70's.

  • she looks so incredibly creepy O_O

  • Saint Etienne are an English indie dance act, fronted by Sarah Cracknell. Former music journalists Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs are the other regular members of the band. They are named after the famous French football team AS Saint-Étienne, European Cup runners-up in the 1970s.[1] FACT and you FAIL meag rupture

  • I doubt that that is where they got the name from ! St Etienne is a shithole in France (which is very rare) - a particularly uninteresting town, a bit south of Lyon. Not a place you would live in, unless you had no choice. Like Middlesborough, but 10 times more pleasant.

    "Etienne" refers to Daho.

  • shutt, dont talk about what u dont know poor u...st etienne was a famous foot ball "equipe" rien a voir avac la ville !! que des cons !! mdr!!

  • they were from Manchester not fuckin France mega rupture lol

  • i was replying to some git from france, who said they was french, i know they are brits.

  • Their best track by far and a real crowd pleaser. Love it.

  • Saint Etienne recently toured promoting the re-release of the album Foxbase Alpha

  • très british ......

  • The posh lady sang. What does she do now?

  • She's still with St Etienne, Slowly but surely writing a new album. Possibly due next year.

  • Thank you for the good news.

  • I always thought this sounded similar to some bad Japanese techno-pop. However, this song is by far one of their most catchy tunes.

  • etmoi12 - Go to the bottom of the class.

  • es fantastica!!!

  • havnt heard this in years. I came across it while I was looking for the original track that girls aloud - loving kind was based upon. who fucking knows, I canf find it but Im glad I found this!

  • One of the best songs from the 90's

  • Oh no, they are brits ! And Sarah Cracknell is a top girl !

  • Had a crush on her wjen i was a kid.

  • St. Etienne arent French!

  • What year was this?

  • 1995?

  • i only like this . as its from wen i was a kid .. not the best however its on my playlist for old time sake

  • bringing back my memories from University - one of the best song ever

  • old school

  • I really like this song. Simple euro pop, but done so well that it's head and shoulders above anything else in that genre.

    Thanks for posting

  • I already own pretty much that St Etienne have ever released.

Youtube is a cracking website 99% of the time.

Late at night its easier to watch a track on youtube than make an effort to dig out a CD and play it

Is it an infringment on my rights that, tonight, I cannot watch Hobart Paving.... Who Do You Think You Are.... You're In A Bad Way.....??

    I'm pretty miffed right now!!

  • france 12 points

  • Saint Etienne are English.

  • UK 12 points!

  • "UK 12 points"

unfortunately, I haven't heard anyone say that for about 10 years !
