I remember watching this man it must have been 93 or 94... anyway letterman had been humming the black riff off and on during the previous few weeks episodes before this (randomly as letterman likes to do) so i think paul set it up and was able to lead letterman into it. It's worth noting that black was not a single or a heavily played song off of the album at the time, and i think this is the first time eddie was ever on the late show. tres cool and i think letterman was truly floored by this.
