@knight4justice Wrong! Active duty soldiers may not be able to officially support a candidate, but they can donate funds to anyone they want. This VETERAN supports Ron Paul as do many of my friends. On Feb 20th, I will be in DC with a very large group of vets for Ron Paul attending a rally. The tea party DID form around Ron Paul, you're likely too young and naive to remember, but I was a tea party member then. Obviously you've never served in the military, as you have no clue.

And besides, earmarking represents 1-2% of the entire federal budget. This is in contrast to massive appropriations bills that actually do meaningfully increase the size of debt (enter Santorum).

Ron has correctly stated time and again that earmarking is a more transparent way of allocating tax dollars because once the bill is passed the funds HAVE to be spent as outlined in the bill. The other option is to vote to just appropriate money to the executive branch (i.e. the federal departments) WITHOUT any stipulation or oversight as to how that money is to spent. Which is more responsible way of spending tax payers money?
