Last comment for the Christian's and non-Christian's alike. The bible speaks about "obey your masters" (slavery was excepted and right). "Obey your government", in other words follow the laws of the land, pay your taxes, etc... "Thou shall not kill", UNLESS you are at War, then it is holy to fight for what is right. If you steal, cut off an arm. Oh and lets not forget "an eye for an eye". Yep, that was Jesus in the bible speaking...
One more comment: Young people have no clue on how bad it used to be here. At one time, it was illegal for blacks to learn to read, nor could they even marry each other. Japanese-Americans were put into camps during World War II, people in Hollywood were black-listed and could not make a living because they may be "communists" (like the Salem witch trials"! This country by no means has been "like an angel". Oh, and for all the Christian's out there...wait until you see my next post!
And I do agree with so many of the comments made here. This is about an inter-racial couple, a white man & a black woman who fell in love, it has NOTHING to do with gay marriage, or gay rights. To many comments here have made it into that, so basically what I am saying is this: QUIT! Legal rights for gay's is an entirely different issue and an entirely different story, period. This story of love between 2 different races seems to have lost its meaning because of the "gay card" being pulled out.
The documentary "The Loving Story" will be playing Tues. 9pm (Feb 14) on Showtime. Now while this movie is really good & emotional, the "real" Mrs. Loving who passed away in 2008 quoted this about the film "the only thing that was actually true was that I had 3 children". But it is worth watching! They were arrested for being married (only 5 weeks after being married), and it is true the sheriff burst into their bedroom at 3 am. The history of the things that were "illegal" in the good ol' USA?!
What puzzles me is how a discussion about inter-racial marriage came to be one about same sex marriage!!! Boy it always have come down to the gay story!!!!
@kingdomaffiliate Well, maybe because it's the same type of deal. Gays are being discriminated against for their sexual orientation. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, it is a rights issue at the moment.
@PivotPro333 its not the same type of deal gays are not being discrimated they just dont have the right to force their views down peoples thorats... What mr and Ms loving went through was discrimantion
movie was hard to find other then paying 120 for it from amazon i wasn't going to pay that much but I did find another site and got it for 19.00 at cd universe...
@BXTALE So besides the fact that you are plain wrong, let's just say it was a choice. So what?? They should be denied the right to marry because they made a choice on who they want to marry??? Don't straight people chose who they want to marry?? Your argument makes no sense to me whatsoever.
@tosheatower Haha i dont think so my dear...being gay is a choice and changing the constitution for gay marriage is not okay..marriage has always been between a man and woman! So I don't agree with it and that's that! For me accept gay marriage is like accepting homosexuality and thats just plain wrong in my eyes!
@BXTALE Have you even seen this movie? Because if you did you would know that interracial marriage or even marriage among black folk was illegal at one point in this country BECAUSE PEOPLE JUST THOUGHT IT WAS PLAIN WRONG!!! Whatever, I'm not going to get into an argument with someone over youtube that is obviously not even on my intellectual level. Let me just leave you with this... I hope for you that one day you realize how ignorant, narrow-minded and hateful you are, and are humbled by it.
@tosheatower F.Y.I. I have seen this movie plenty of times...and I already knew that interracial marriage was illegal back in the day...Now, the problem I have with gay marriage is, that they try and equate it with interracial marriage and in my opinion that is totally different! Being gay is a choice and being black or white is not...plain & simple. It doesn't say anywhere in the bible that interracial marriage is a sin...but it does concerning homosexuality.
@BXTALE Go back and read the Bible! You seriously know nothing about what you're talking about! Aren't you embarrassed to just say things without doing the research? Seeing as how I'm gay and have had to fight my whole life against ignorance like yours I happen to know the Bible pretty well. You should definitely go back and read through leviticus a few more times!!!
@BXTALE Leviticus being the book in the Bible that people like to use to say homosexuality is wrong, which it actually doesn't even say... HOWEVER in Leviticus it does say that slavery is acceptable, taking other peoples land is acceptable, that women are not equal to men, that wearing more than one time a fiber at a time is a sin, that eating shelfish is an abomination etc etc etc... Seriously your ignorance reeks...
@BXTALE You are just another one of those 'Christians' who never actually read the Bible but just repeats crap she's heard from other people! If you really cared about the word of God you wouldn't pick and chose which verses in the Bible to follow and which you don't have to. Point being the Bible has more verses about how women are worth less than dogs than they do on homosexuality but I bet my life that you don't think that women are unequal to men.
@driedapples23 Disliking someones lifestyle is not hatred...I don't hate anyone...thats a strong word thats your putting out, all I said is that I don't agree with it..which I dont have to!
@BXTALE But it's not a life style. By calling that you're making it out as a choice, which it isn't. You seriously have to ask yourself why on Earth someone would choose to belong to a group of people that are constantly criticized? They don't. I know you don't want to hear this, but it's like being black in the 60s.
You can continue to believe whatever you want, but in the end, if it's causing any harm to yourself or anyone else then it isn't worth it. Peace and love.
@BXTALE NO, didn't you hear, God created the races and put them on different continents. That HATE EXCUSE was what was being spread at all the Christian churches down South and in Texas.
@BXTALE I have heard documentary footage of Southern ministers saying that the races were put on different continents because they were supposed to be separated. That statement was in one of the clips I saw once referring to a movie about the Lovings and the time period. That is an excuse for HATE SPEECH and bigotry and is nothing but an excuse to the rest of the world about them being racist a**holes and hiding behind religion. Although the bible does condone and give directions on slavery.
@tosheatower gay marriage is not the same as interracial marriage.. because the meaning of marriage dose not change with interacial marriage... Gays cant produce and their lifestyle is a product of pervsion and abuse in early years they should get help not be in the streets having gay rights parade acting like sinners...
@kellyannabama Marriage is a legal contract. In the United States we have a separation of church and state. End of story. If you don't agree with gay marriage, don't marry a gay person. At what point in time did all of you 'so called Christians' forget that God is a loving and forgiving God. It is not your place to judge other peoples lifestyles. People like you are the real problem in this country, not gays and lesbians.
**memories** me an my boy were extras in dis movie... parts were filmed in Canada in my city... De Cast was amazing, Isaiah Washington was ma fav. he kept it real !!! Ironicically I have 2 IR children now, and dis goes back to '95 !!!!!!! Here's to the Loving's !!
well I have seen many racist white people. they think that they r the only human and that the earth belonges to them what the hell. they dont believe that other people are humans but animals. thats very mean. well maybe 90% of the white people. are mean 10% they r nice. in Belguim som white people burned a black boy in fire because of his skin color that unhuman and tortura. I dont hate white people but they hate us
@funnytv99 I have seen so many African and Asian racists in my life that it's not even funny what you're trying to do here, i.e. blame everything on the Europeans or what-not. It's a human error, not a racial one. The things I've seen done to other human beings are positively revolting. It's so easy, isn't it, finding a scapegoat and blaming others for your misery? But eventually you have to realise that you're guilty of the same crime, the same prejudices, of those whom you dislike so much.
ok then tell me one think who slaved african people and brought to the USA, Who stole the land from the Indians, who stole Australia. who killed slaved India, and other countries in ASia. white, who r the Ku Klux Klan. ok I get not all white people r racist but the most of them they r more then other people.
@funnytv99 Ok, you obviously have some personal issue that you need to deal with before seeing things clearly, so I won't argue with you any more. But let me tell you, growing up in Europe as a dark-skinned person, I had never ever experienced any type of racism at all until I went abroad. Whatever happened 100-500 years ago, forget about it. This is the present, not the past.
white people r horibles why r they so mean they cant live in this earth in peace just hurting people they need to learn respect and that people r the same people r people why u care what color they r its god who created them they did not creat their selv. the earth is not only urs it belongs to all humankind
@funnytv99 Man, I'm part-white, part-black. Don't insult that which is half my DNA. We're all humans, we're all faulty. Africans and Asians aren't exactly peaceful either.
well let me ask u question. who were the people that killed many red Indians and stole the Land. who were th people that killed native australians and stoled the land. Who were the people that slaved many Africans and killed many Africans. who were the people that slaved many Asians and killed many asians who were the people that killed 6 million jews. white white white.there r nice white people but not many. most of them r racist.
well i just told the truth people hate the truth. aren white people. who killed many people. like red Indians, Africans, Asians, Australians.and hey slaved. and they stole Indians land. they tortured many inocent people. like people in South Africa. Like Indians in Asia. they were horrible unhuman. and they will never change. well sorry to say that most of whites are racist not all but most of them.
@WhereYaBoss Read from (not just European) history, and learn that the human species has a knack for brutality. Period. It doesn't matter what tribe you belong to. The tribes/smaller groups that migrated into Europe just happened to acquire the resources required to create empires based on the power of technology, and thus were more successful. The most important lesson we can learn from history is this: Get over it. It's history. The people who lived 100 years ago are not the people of today.
@erinra Just because you are done with the past doesn't mean the past is done with you. So, don't tell me to get over it like you don't see the injustices still going on today. When someone wipes out your people so that their people can control and rule over you in the future you should never let that be water under bridge. That should never be All Right With You. And it's not all right with me. So, when I bring up the past--YOU need to get over it. This is my choice. Not Yours!
@WhereYaBoss What kind of world to you want? One of peace or one of retaliation? Do you want to bitch about things dead people did in dead times or work together with everyone who's willing, regardless of ethnicity, to expel the inequalities that exist today so we may move towards a better future? Excuse me, but the past belongs to everyone. You don't have a monopoly on it, so once again, get over it. I already have, no need to tell me to do so.
@erinra You strike as the kind of person who would stand by and watch history repeat itself. Wanna know why? Because you think we shouldn't talk about the past. You think we should be sitting around a campfire singing Kumbaya. You do exactly what passive people do. You accept the status quo. You don't ruffle feathers and you do as you're told. That's exactly the kind of people Hitler relied on to excute his agenda. History will repeat itself, it has time and time again. What will be your part?
@erinra Why do you think they teach history in school? Because they don't want you to get over it. History is not something you just get over. It's documented and taught for a reason. Did your ma take photographs of you as a child? Should she toss those out and forget about them since your half-grown now? That is history, is it not? Shyt what I wrote 5 days ago was history, yet you responded to it. Why didn't you just get over my one liner? Funnytv99 NEVER insulted you, it was a history lesson.
@WhereYaBoss There's a misunderstanding. I don't equate "get over it" with "forget it". Do you know why many of the wars of the second millennium occurred? Because people couldn't get over the feuds of the past, they needed revenge. Do you want revenge? If you don't, then we're on the same page.
Another thing we can learn from history is that judging a person's background, character, education and life aspirations based on six comments is idiotic; it only leads to confusion and other nonsense.
@erinra I live in the US. We elected our first EVER non-white president and a lot of white people lost their minds. Why? Because they don't want a black president. Shyt they don't even want a black boss or a black neighbor for that matter. When he was running for office all those things that you said we should get over and let sleeping dogs lie started to come out. It's far from over. If it wasn't for the LAWS these people would have us in shackles. And you want me to get over that, lol.
@erinra Continued...We have Neo-Nazis over here, the Ku Klux Klan, etc, etc. . . These dogs ain't sleep, they are wide awake! It would be foolish of us to pretend that we could all sit back and relax and enjoy a "Ding-Dong, the witch is dead"-moment. This effing witch still has her broom and she would slam us over the head with it if we take our eyes off of her. Let me tell you, there is nothing written in stone that says these people won't do what they've done before. It's a reflex for them!
@WhereYaBoss Yes, it's a well-known fact that many Americans are a bit out of it, because of their isolated nature. ;) Many Africans are also pretty unstable, for the same reason. And no, don't pretend everything's alright: "get over" the past, not the present. Again, the present is here for us to change and prosper in. The world as it is today is a pretty fucked-up place; obsessing over what has been/could've been won't help. Live in the dark reality, not an unchangeable dark fantasy.
@erinra You can't get over what's being swept under the rug. That's the problem, people avoid, avoid, avoid the discussion as if it's the plague. Maybe if we had intelligent discussions about these problems that DID and DOES exist, maybe then we could move past and think of it only as apart of our history. Until then, we'll continue to have these problems. Imo, avoiding things is as bad as being apart of it, because you're not doing anything to end it (I use "you" as in generally speaking).
This looks like a good movie and the couple look good. It just goes to show how stupid and naive racism is. My message to interracial couples is to NEVER give up and there will always be the support to the very end. NEVER LET ANY! TELL YOU OTHER WISE!
Love knows no bounds, finds no fences, has no boundaries, but mainly love starts in the heart. You cannot help who you fall in love with, and you cannot begin to find out where love goes, unless you have walked in love. Mr.and Mrs Loving was a super movie. it truly depects life in the late '50, early '60s, and how love overcomes all obstacles. Truly, this couple was meant to be husband and wife,, and we all are better off for it.
i need help on a movie i saw a long time ago, and i tried looking for it but no luck seen this movie >>..but the movie im looking for is about a young couple in highschool the guy plays football but that doesnt over shadow the movie, they have to sneak around all the time....and towards the end he wants to be with her, as she wants to be with him but due to racial barriers, and the time takes place in 1940's or 50's? ..and in the end she decides she has to leave him..and he never sees her again
aw...^_^ im so happy they still decided to get married cuz it if wasnt for the loving vs. the state of virginia wouldnt have happened therefore allowing interracial marriages.
It's funny how I grew up in Caroline County (where the real Lovings lived) and we never once learned about the Lovings in history class, even though their grandkids actually attended the school...
My grandma had me watch this movie for the first time when I was younger and I remember her telling me it was a true story and she wanted me to actually listen and watch it. I fell in LOVE with it and I think its so cute! Now its crazy because I always meet ppl who talk abt IR dating and have NEVER heard of the Lovings! I'm like, Whhaaaaaaattttt????? lol
It's un-freakin-believable that there are people alive today who are old enough to remember when it was like this! Less than a DECADE before I was born! Wow.
This used to come on Lifetime all the time and that is where I first watched it. I didn't know there was a book and now I'm might have to look that up and read it.
I've read many articles from the Lovings also, watched the movie and read the most in depth autobiography from Phyl Newbeck and I can tell you that some of the facts are a little exaggerated in the movie compared to the real story but there is certainly alot more truth than just having 3 children in the movie. I believe Mildred was a little upset about having exaggerations on her and Richard's life story when she stated that. I encourage to decide for yourself though. Thank You Lovings
I didn't realize there was a book but I just found it on amazon and ordered it so thank you for that. Anybody know about thier kids? Do they ever speak? If the movie is ever priced normally again (which I doubt) then I will probably purchase it. I'm white and have always been interested in individual stories during this time frame and it still amazes me that people could treat people the way they did (and sometimes still do) and often in the name of God.
@sgtrius Yes, this film has quite a few exaggerations for dramatic effect. The story of the Lovings is dramatic as it is so it really didn't need any such embellishment. Can you imagine being dragged out of bed at 3 am simply because you'd married a black woman? WTH? If you want the true story, in their own words, check out the documentary THE LOVING STORY which came out earlier this year.
@angelarena1977 I have no idea, that was nearly a yr ago..lol, I probably googled mr. & Mrs loving and read many articles at the time. I remember there was at least one taped interview with the lovings from that time period.
@nancylp1111 That may or may not be true, but how untrue can it be? As far as the general public know from interviews and the case, I think they did pretty good.
they actually did used to have it on netflix but they haven't had it in stock for about a year and a half now for some reason. more than likely people rented and just kept it thinking it would be cheaper than 120.00
This movie used to be on youtube, but was removed due to copyright laws. I think is the best IR movie there is. unfortunately the only place you can purchase is from amazon which is around 120.00 because it's so rare. Lifetime use to play this movie, keep a watch on their schedule they may play it again. Maybe you can try email them to request to play it also.

But let me tell you, growing up in Europe as a dark-skinned person, I had never ever experienced any type of racism at all until I went abroad. Whatever happened 100-500 years ago, forget about it. This is the present, not the past.

funnytv99 1 year ago
@funnytv99 Man, I'm part-white, part-black. Don't insult that which is half my DNA. We're all humans, we're all faulty. Africans and Asians aren't exactly peaceful either.
erinra 1 year ago
well let me ask u question. who were the people that killed many red Indians and stole the Land. who were th people that killed native australians and stoled the land. Who were the people that slaved many Africans and killed many Africans. who were the people that slaved many Asians and killed many asians who were the people that killed 6 million jews. white white white.there r nice white people but not many. most of them r racist.
funnytv99 1 year ago 4
well i just told the truth people hate the truth. aren white people. who killed many people. like red Indians, Africans, Asians, Australians.and hey slaved. and they stole Indians land. they tortured many inocent people. like people in South Africa. Like Indians in Asia. they were horrible unhuman. and they will never change. well sorry to say that most of whites are racist not all but most of them.

@erinra Doesn't look like an insult, but a history lesson.
WhereYaBoss 1 year ago
@WhereYaBoss Read from (not just European) history, and learn that the human species has a knack for brutality. Period. It doesn't matter what tribe you belong to. The tribes/smaller groups that migrated into Europe just happened to acquire the resources required to create empires based on the power of technology, and thus were more successful. The most important lesson we can learn from history is this: Get over it. It's history. The people who lived 100 years ago are not the people of today.
erinra 1 year ago
@erinra Just because you are done with the past doesn't mean the past is done with you. So, don't tell me to get over it like you don't see the injustices still going on today. When someone wipes out your people so that their people can control and rule over you in the future you should never let that be water under bridge. That should never be All Right With You. And it's not all right with me. So, when I bring up the past--YOU need to get over it. This is my choice. Not Yours!
WhereYaBoss 1 year ago
@WhereYaBoss What kind of world to you want? One of peace or one of retaliation? Do you want to bitch about things dead people did in dead times or work together with everyone who's willing, regardless of ethnicity, to expel the inequalities that exist today so we may move towards a better future? Excuse me, but the past belongs to everyone. You don't have a monopoly on it, so once again, get over it. I already have, no need to tell me to do so.
erinra 1 year ago
@erinra You strike as the kind of person who would stand by and watch history repeat itself. Wanna know why? Because you think we shouldn't talk about the past. You think we should be sitting around a campfire singing Kumbaya. You do exactly what passive people do. You accept the status quo. You don't ruffle feathers and you do as you're told. That's exactly the kind of people Hitler relied on to excute his agenda. History will repeat itself, it has time and time again. What will be your part?
WhereYaBoss 1 year ago
@erinra Why do you think they teach history in school? Because they don't want you to get over it. History is not something you just get over. It's documented and taught for a reason. Did your ma take photographs of you as a child? Should she toss those out and forget about them since your half-grown now? That is history, is it not? Shyt what I wrote 5 days ago was history, yet you responded to it. Why didn't you just get over my one liner? Funnytv99 NEVER insulted you, it was a history lesson.
WhereYaBoss 1 year ago
@WhereYaBoss There's a misunderstanding. I don't equate "get over it" with "forget it". Do you know why many of the wars of the second millennium occurred? Because people couldn't get over the feuds of the past, they needed revenge. Do you want revenge? If you don't, then we're on the same page.
Another thing we can learn from history is that judging a person's background, character, education and life aspirations based on six comments is idiotic; it only leads to confusion and other nonsense.
erinra 1 year ago
@erinra I live in the US. We elected our first EVER non-white president and a lot of white people lost their minds. Why? Because they don't want a black president. Shyt they don't even want a black boss or a black neighbor for that matter. When he was running for office all those things that you said we should get over and let sleeping dogs lie started to come out. It's far from over. If it wasn't for the LAWS these people would have us in shackles. And you want me to get over that, lol.
WhereYaBoss 1 year ago 9
@erinra Continued...We have Neo-Nazis over here, the Ku Klux Klan, etc, etc. . . These dogs ain't sleep, they are wide awake! It would be foolish of us to pretend that we could all sit back and relax and enjoy a "Ding-Dong, the witch is dead"-moment. This effing witch still has her broom and she would slam us over the head with it if we take our eyes off of her. Let me tell you, there is nothing written in stone that says these people won't do what they've done before. It's a reflex for them!
WhereYaBoss 1 year ago
@WhereYaBoss Yes, it's a well-known fact that many Americans are a bit out of it, because of their isolated nature. ;) Many Africans are also pretty unstable, for the same reason. And no, don't pretend everything's alright: "get over" the past, not the present. Again, the present is here for us to change and prosper in. The world as it is today is a pretty fucked-up place; obsessing over what has been/could've been won't help. Live in the dark reality, not an unchangeable dark fantasy.

ticky23able 1 year ago

Truly, this couple was meant to be husband and wife,, and we all are better off for it.

i need help on a movie i saw a long time ago, and i tried looking for it but no luck seen this movie >>..but the movie im looking for is about a young couple in highschool the guy plays football but that doesnt over shadow the movie, they have to sneak around all the time....and towards the end he wants to be with her, as she wants to be with him but due to racial barriers, and the time takes place in 1940's or 50's? ..and in the end she decides she has to leave him..and he never sees her again

jianniestrong 2 years ago
Never mind, just saw a quote from Mrs. Loving that said about the only thing true in this movie is that they had 3 kids so I don't want the movie.
nancylp1111 2 years ago
I've read many articles from the Lovings also, watched the movie and read the most in depth autobiography from Phyl Newbeck and I can tell you that some of the facts are a little exaggerated in the movie compared to the real story but there is certainly alot more truth than just having 3 children in the movie. I believe Mildred was a little upset about having exaggerations on her and Richard's life story when she stated that. I encourage to decide for yourself though. Thank You Lovings
sgtrius 2 years ago 6
I didn't realize there was a book but I just found it on amazon and ordered it so thank you for that. Anybody know about thier kids? Do they ever speak? If the movie is ever priced normally again (which I doubt) then I will probably purchase it. I'm white and have always been interested in individual stories during this time frame and it still amazes me that people could treat people the way they did (and sometimes still do) and often in the name of God.
nancylp1111 2 years ago
Really what movie isn't going to exaggerate?
TVwriter23 2 years ago 2
@sgtrius Yes, this film has quite a few exaggerations for dramatic effect. The story of the Lovings is dramatic as it is so it really didn't need any such embellishment. Can you imagine being dragged out of bed at 3 am simply because you'd married a black woman? WTH? If you want the true story, in their own words, check out the documentary THE LOVING STORY which came out earlier this year.

angelarena1977 1 year ago
@angelarena1977 I have no idea, that was nearly a yr ago..lol, I probably googled mr. & Mrs loving and read many articles at the time. I remember there was at least one taped interview with the lovings from that time period.

@nancylp1111 That may or may not be true, but how untrue can it be? As far as the general public know from interviews and the case, I think they did pretty good.

I know what became of Mr. Loving-He died back in the mid 1960s or so, Or the 1970s. What became of thier kids?
jiveturkey25 2 years ago
they actually did used to have it on netflix but they haven't had it in stock for about a year and a half now for some reason. more than likely people rented and just kept it thinking it would be cheaper than 120.00
sgtrius 2 years ago 2
This movie used to be on youtube, but was removed due to copyright laws. I think is the best IR movie there is. unfortunately the only place you can purchase is from amazon which is around 120.00 because it's so rare. Lifetime use to play this movie, keep a watch on their schedule they may play it again. Maybe you can try email them to request to play it also.

you can get the VHS version used from amazon starting at 15.00
