  • Thanks for posting this. Possibly the best live performance I have ever seen.

  • this video just sold 100 SM-59 microphones

  • Lyrical genius, and an amazing performer. This version is flat-out the best I've heard him do. Love the emotion!

  • they absolutely nailed this performance.

  • Costello's best song! Great version of it too! Thanks for posting!

  • I could only hope to be this this kewl for five minutes

  • really .....words cannot discribe how really good this is....but, if you watch EC's facial expresions after the performence, it tells it all!...do you think there is emotion in this man's music and voice?

  • TERRIFIC version.

  • What a great find. Thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.

  • I could say a lot and I do have a lot to say about him but I'm just gonna keep it short. WHAT A FREAKING DREAM BOAT!!!! As a woman with exceptional musical background, this guys got it going on. I was lucky enough to see him live and the people who were close enough tossed roses at his feet. Brought tears to my eyes. Love Him in everyway. He is awesome. And what a dreamboat!

  • @biohazardsoldierPMK Oh, yeah....any time you can see Elvis live- DO IT!! It's been about 16 years since I saw him in NC...I waited about 16 years to see him and it was well worth the wait. It was like visiting an old friend. Elvis got me through the hellish high school years.

  • I can't stop watching this video! I love it! The BEST version of this song. Thanks!

  • Great songs like that aren't allowed on American radio any more. Clear Channel saw to it.

  • costello and the attractions at their best off-hand wound-up best

  • Amazing performance.

  • He out-cools Sinatra here!

  • Even with missing teeth he is pure sex singing this song.

  • @drgrl He's not missing teeth; he has a big gap in his front teeth and the sides are just misaligned!

  • I honestly think I'm his youngest fan :) lol Cause I weren't born in 1981 I was born 16 years after that.

  • Good lord the keyboard parts are hypnotic. An already great song made better by an awesome low key performance. Damn does EC know how to craft a great tune.

  • Such a fabulous understated performance. The black and white really emphasises the cool tone.

  • great to see some good older stuff turning up i thank you

  • talk about working the dynamics of a song..wow!!

  • i love it,thank you

  • I remember watching this the night my father died.....the only thing that cheered me up...thanks Elvis

  • Aww, bless you, Victoria.

What a wonderful thing to share.

EC got me through the psuedo darkness and drama that was my teen age years but you have a genuine memory of him doing that!

  • @thegirl44 I thought I was the only one whose life was saved by EC. Before the Smiths who put my pain and misery to words, there was Elvis. :)

  • @MarkSentMe Yes....he put words to the pain, the anger, the lonliness. Where have they all gone? Who is angry now? WHO tells the truth now? I am weeping, so sad, so angry, still....fifty years old. I am so happy and glad whenever someone goes to high school and murders the bullies, so happy when the fascists get bombed = where is the sanity in this world? Elvis is a shadow of himself these days

  • king of america that man

  • Love this song, never seen this clip before though, lovely stuff, thanks so much...

  • I was 14 and watched this on TV with my mom. She liked it, and kept singing the "You better watch your step" part over and over.

    Good memories.

  • groovy version. ah, snyder. i think i remember him calling Meat Loaf "Meat Ball" repeatedly.

  • Cool to see this performed. It definitely misses the cheesy keyboard during the verses. Steve Nieve is awesome!

  • He's tryin' t'look Italian to th' musical Valium.

  • I LOVE ELVIS COSTELLO!!!

  • Yes,my favorite song!

  • dont say a word...dont say anything..dont say a word im not even listenen...i read in the papers about their escape..

  • Thank you. I adore this tune and this is a great watch/listen.

  • wow that fucking fantastic

  • i LOVE his jazzmaster... theyve released it as a tribute, but its just not the same thing

  • I love this one. But non-angry? Really? Were we listening to the same song? I kept thinking the whole time I watched this that I really wouldn't have wanted to get on his bad side. Take a close look at his face the first time he says, "you'd better watch your step." There is so much menace hiding behind that line.

  • Quality Control of the highest order, as usual from the Man.

    Long may he sing.

  • hes pretty good!

  • Anyone know is that Pete Thomas on the drums?

  • yeah it's pete thomas. he just decided to look presentable for this one i guess.

  • Unmistakably the young Pete on drums. Chatted with the older Pete on the tour bus last year. Lovely man.

  • by any chance, do u have the actual interview?

  • I'm assuming that's the old Tom Snyder tv show. This is a great version of a great song. yes Wpollock Trust was underrated but not as much as Imperial Bedroom. Just as today, the industry does not know what to do with new, original artists.

  • A cautionary tale to hipsters everywhere.

  • The man - you just can argue with a performance like that

  • I have got to agree with RFE226 and overmind2000, I have been a huge fan of EC since the early 80's....... Incredible version!!!!!!!

  • Excellent "laid back" arrangement! Elvis is the man - too coil here!!!

  • was thinking the exact same thing...:)

  • Yes, love those. I wish someone would throw "New Lace Sleeves" up on Youtube - it was fantastic on DVD. Trust is the most underated Elvis album in my opinion. Get Happy is also underrated.

  • And Elvis even has his Trust sunglasses on. This is awesome in so many ways.

  • Wow, what a great arrangement. Wish it was better audio, but beggers can't be choosers. This was a real treat. Thanks for this!

  • he's my all-time favorite, too. and holy shit, what a fantastic arrangement.

i saw him three times last year - once for free - and each time was absolutely different. he blows my mind.

  • Agreed. A very fluid, relaxed but powerful arrangement.

  • elvis is the man

i saw him twice last year

my all-time fave for sure, barely beating tom waits

  • awesome!
