ive watched these sci-fi trailers for the dune movies and im not happy wit the ppl they choose to play paul jesssica leto etc..also its so low budget they cant do it the right way ..i think a really well known director and producer needs to pick this up and do it right..id rather read the books then see it half assed

@Deathrape2001 well dune and children of were halfway ok. thye held no candle to david lynch of corse, but it was interesting to see how they presented the details of the book. I think the Sci-Fi channel gets something halfway when its not original to them (ie they have a great novel such as dune to work from) Battle Star Gallactica was awsome. Was that a Sci-Fi channel work. Caprica the series totally sucked though. (by the way your user name scares me a little)

Dune did seem like a soap opera, but my only point was in comparrison to all the other bs the sci-fi channel has Dune and BSG (ha I just noticed there is BS in the initials of the title) is still a little better. I supose the comparison is like eating stale old food than just eating say dog crap. I think we both agree the sci-fi channel is mostly the later.

@Finalzero Seriously how can anyone especially a Sci-fi fan ever think that Frank Herbet's legendary epic series which is the Sci-fi equivalent to Tolkien's Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings to Stephine Meyers god awful mindless, souless abomination to the world of literature and cinema? Actually, there is almost impossible to capture a book on the screen. When you read a book,the screen is your imagination - and it is way better, then even IMAX or whatsoever. Also, reading a book last for many many hours, while a movie is often only 2 hours, so many important details is just missing from a movie. This means, that character portraying is always more shallow..

However the one thing thats extremly true is books have to explain visual detail which some can do very well without being a pain where as other go into way to much detail. Dune is an amazing book that doesnt ram you with to much set information. Lord of the rings will put you to sleep reading about how pretty some hill is for 9 pages before explaining the event that happens.

Everyone says that about book adaptations. Yet, this is one of the best and truest book to movie adaptations ever made, in my opinion... If they were to add in all the elements of the book, this would be a 10 part miniseries.

Mr Herbert did something GREAT , he used the story to pass to the reader his messages , his views , his philosophies .The movie is just a "story tell" , doesnt send the teaching message which makes the books unique .So this is a big fail for the movie .

WEll, the problem with making it a motion picture is that it can only be at most 3 hours long. It will most likely be about 2 hours. The miniseries was about 4 1/2 hours without comercials. Do you think 2 hours is enough for Dune?
