It went to Tsukuba University in the country of cherry blossoms village.

The newspaper is delivered, and sleeping time : for about five hours in the morning and at night of every day.

In this tune, it was able to be really energetic.

  • TOKYO! TOKYO!

  • The video editing technology was too primitive for this, cut and paste wasn't meant to be fun with analog equipment, great job and welcome to the future 2011.

  • this one kinda reminds me of elo

  • @SHOGUNX8 I wish ELO had been as inventive as this. I like some ELO though!

  • YMO is earliest **proper** electronic dance music i can find.

  • Veri cool,wooooooooooooooow i like it

  • This is probably the closest thing to techno music in the 70s. While most Hi-NRG dance music at the time barely managed 130 BPM (beats per minute), YMO's "Technopolis" clocked in at nearly 145 BPM, just like the techno music of the late 80s. "Technopolis" was very ahead of its time.

  • @SegaMegadriveMic

very good - abba, ymo, throbbing gristle, and kraftwerk are the grandparents to techno music period.

  • @SegaMegadriveMic yeah, Kraftwerk and YMO made the history of electronic music.

  • I like them and Kraftwerk!

  • THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL VIDEO!!! THIS IS UNBEATABLE!

  • reminds me of starfox =)

  • it's moses from South Park

  • @valcarni1

No he was based on the Master Control Program (or MCP) from Disney's Tron (1982)

  • mega classic and so kooooooooooool to see the vid too';-)

  • Nice theme

  • Giant head sounds like saying "Tokio," which is another name for "Tokyo."

At least, that's what I thought when this song first came out...amazing 30 years ago!

The "invader game" was the first "TV" game I can remember, (note it was not even called "computer" game, cuz nobody had PCs back then,) oh, wait, was "pack-man" older??

  • They have enormous talent, no doubt about it. Who else can make this kind of music?

  • There was a different cut of this video with a shot of the Bullet Train (Shinkansen)? It was a delightfully futuristic vision of Japan...from 30 years ago, it really "schools" our inner cities!

  • That's great! I was a boy tired of 70's longhairs with their guitars, I wanted something DIFFERENT, an electronic sound that appealed to what I had no name for, but which I now recognize is my cold, cold silicon heart. So I found Tomita, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Gary Numan, Delerium. There are a few stand-out tunes like this too. Today's rave and trance "DJ's" should have this beaten into them with a stick until they learn something.

  • @Dracopol

    well said

  • @Dracopol you forgot to mention Kitaro and Jean Luc Ponty!

    xD

  • @Nza420 Right, Kitaro. It SOUNDS like a guitar, but it`s really about synths!

  • i'v never heard of these gyes but im likeing this vibe it rocks, if u like this sort of music u'll love paul hardcastle

  • Their sound is godly! No-one else can create that mood!

  • I really enjoyed it. This is a new band of hearing, so I think they are really Good. I like them alot, as much as or better than Tangerine Dream!

  • It is so addictive and inspiring that I keep watching this video again and again and again. I feel lots of enthusiasm and positive energy from YMO music. あなたのハードワークのためのYMOの感謝

  • What is the GIANT EVIL FLOATY TALKING HEAD MONSTER saying ? All i can make up is champignon.

  • 1979 Techno music ROCKS!!!!!

  • i want to make a video like this!!

  • Three masters from another dimension landing in Earth to provide us these epic moments.

    It's sacred, sounds holy.

  • If you're wondering why video games sounded like YMO, it's because YMO was a heavy influence on Japanese pop culture in the early 80's. Simply put, YMO came before the egg. :)

  • Yeah--I can see that. Casiopea and these guys really sound like big influences. . .

    This is awesome.

  • Holy crap, this is amazing! I am a big fan of Kraftwerk, and I found this by accident on Progarchives, and how happy I am! It sounds like really good video game/movie/etc. theme music.

  • FINALLY a video after 30 years!!!!!! WOW, took long enough!!! Awesome!!

  • music is a confusing a fascinating thing. I don't know what genre I should focus in. But I also want to pioneer something new like these guys. But where to go???

  • @LIGHTRONIX you don't have to focus on one "genre" just make what you like at the time. Blend genres. Find new sounds. Work with old (ancient) music styles and create your own stuff. You are, who you are. ^_^

  • electric youth

  • You have reached the last boss!

GIANT EVIL FLOATY TALKING HEAD MONSTER!

  • @wiggaroo LOL

  • Lylat Wars!!

  • @wiggaroo HAHAHAHA! Fucking awesome quote man ;0)

  • @wiggaroo i'm actually surprised that it didn't appear in REZ

  • @wiggaroo Try a barrel roll!

  • The best music comes from good ole Japan!

I love japans bands, their are...so invidual!

    Thats awesome!

  • have to love how casual and matter-of-fact they are about it all. they're all "yeah, no big deal. this kind of shit happens every day."

  • welcome to japan!

  • please! introduce me to some good artist from Japan including some synthpop like this and other kind of electronic bands. I'll give you tons of hispanic music you'll enjoy for sure

  • I"m not sure about synthpop or genre .. you should try Perfume ( girls group)

  • That is correct that Kraftwerk was not formed in 1970. They began in 1968!!! Way before YMO

  • It's a pointless distinction, as the members of YMO were all in their own music careers just as long as Kraftewerk was together. Also, both bands found their signature styles and sounds at the same time.

  • nah, kraftwerk's autobahn album which defined their "classic" sound came out in '74, YMO's debut album came out in '79

  • nah ymo's debut album came out in November '78. i should add that their second album including this song came out in september '79 and they started calling their own musical style techno in early '79. many people seemed to have a misunderstanding of ymo's history. but it's true that ymo was greatly influenced by kraftwerk. and now what year did detroit's people started calling their own musical style techno?

  • ah sorry, mixed up the dates there. i think ymo called their music "techno pop", not "techno" though, a term which kraftwerk later adopted on their electric cafe album. also, ymo was originally founded as a one-off studio project by haruomi hosono to mix exotica and electronics. even though the exotica thing has been downplayed on their later releases, it's still a thread that runs through their whole oeuvre. ;)

  • Kraftwerk were not formed in 1970!

  • reminds me of night flight by perfume a bit at 0:16

  • Tokyo was awesome like that in the 70s even? I didn't know that! Wow! Do your best Japan!

  • Some sounds remind me Space Art too.

  • sheer genius this song!!!

  • this video is so funky cool! i love it!

  • YMO and kraltwerk are both old great bands.

    but I prefer YMO music.

  • this sounds like a japanese kraftwerk

  • that's the idea, they were heavily influenced by Kraftwerk but actually developed a sense of humor along the way

  • No it doesn't

    Kraftwerk was formed in 1970

    YMO, in 1978

  • i think kraftwerk always had humor in their music, it was just very dry and subtle

  • I think so too, but both bands are fantastic!!!

  • these ymo videos are so great!!! i love it!!

  • the opening looks like the chest of the megazord from power rangers XD

  • holy shit it does!!

  • ON ARES

  • where can I download YMO? Itunes store doesn't have it

  • on limewire

  • not limeware fuck that spyware shit... use soulseek

  • buy cd.

Unfortunately,YMO's songs can't be downloaded in the issue of rights

  • or you could just use YouTube to MP3 (firefox Add-on)

  • yes but the quality is terrible.

  • Yeah, and advice- DOWNLOAD SOON. One of my favorite videos (Soul Sonic Force "Looking for the Perfect Beat") got pulled a while back, and now I might never see it again. It could happen to anyone!

  • edit- applies mainly to video, which you can download with the ant toolbar. (You can get virtually any audio on soulseek.)

  • 30年後に聞いても新鮮なサウンドは、この世の物とは思えない。YMOを超えるテクノポップグループは未来永劫現れないのではとさえ思わされる。

Their tune is still fresh and exciting after 30 years. It seems that Techno group greater than YMO will never appear in the future.

  • probably true. it seems that new techno bands are going for something people who have heard this just cannot follow. this is the pinnacle of electronic music, so no where to go but down i guess.

  • The sounds have changed, but there's people and bands out there still pushing the limits.

  • @otatsat108 YMO and Kraftwerk are all the Techno I will ever need!

  • @otatsat108 daft punk

  • they give you the finger at:

    2:14

  • 1:46に映った町はドコですか?大阪?歌舞伎町?

  • 歌舞伎町ですよ。

  • ありがとうございます!

    やっぱり「夜王」で見たシーンと同じでしたね、町並みが。

  • It's my favorite song after Rydeen! I love the melody!

  • 1980 japan

  • This video gave me nightmares. I love the song this but I don't know what scares me about it.

  • Yea but, If this video gave me nightmares which had this music then i'd be pretty happy though ;)

  • whoa!

  • BELLISSIMI ricordi !!!!

  • sì, bello !! :)

  • I still have this on 7 inch original, great tune.

  • Hang on to it. Could be worth a bit in yrs to come (if it isn't already). There is a cd containing just global singles on it. Versions from australia, uk, and the EU etc. Very nice collection. Sadly it always seems to cost a fair bit on ebay when it shows up. Still, nice to have in your collection though. Thanks for your comments.

  • this is a true Techno-cratic pop.

  • I don`t feel old about this video.

The songs they made are very great and I`ll listen to them forever
