Alexis was the grand daddy of R & B in Brittan... the mentored everybody who meant anything in Rock and Blues... He was the man. Steve was showing respect...
@Fiddleysteve: No Les Paul Studio yet at this time. Marriott plays a Gibson Les Paul Custom with pickup covers removed. Korner´s guitar looks like a Les Paul Junior, "an ooold Gibson", as he once told me, but with a peculiar creme-coloured P-90 pickup. Obviously this show wasn´t rehearsed, they just jam away. Most likely Alexis had the gig, but got his band together afterwards.
If he would have joined the Stones after Mick Taylor left, who knows, but I wish I could hear what "Some Girls" would have sounded like withe Steve in the band. He was/is the motherfucker, a badass.
@albionminer From what i've read, apparently, Steve Marriott appeared at the audition to replace Mick Taylor and literally STOLE the whole show. No one could compete with his energy.
Jagger hated him so much for being upstaged and told the crew "Get that little fucker outta here FAST!"
@taildragger53 That's true. Mick Jagger was and still is such a miserable talentless bastard. Steve Marriott, on the other hand, gives me the chills every time I listen to him. And his guitar playing was competent, too. An accomplished musician and perhaps the only singer who could incorporate soul singing in rock music so successfully (I suppose Mark Farner is the runner-up)
although Ithink the respect remained healthy i always get the feeling steve upstaged alexis in a way only Marriott could because of korner's thoughts on the breakdown of steve's marriage to jenny!Just an observation!
Oh I miss marriott - he was the best to me period. Noone else ever had the crazy raw natural charm & energy & presence & noone else had THAT VOICE or the ears to play that guitar like he could - he was so disrespected in life its criminal. He was a true diamond in the rough a genuine one off to be sure. Shine on Steve I hope you are at peace out there in the Universal.
Marriott steals the show as usual ! What a amazing voice he had .r.i.p mate.

Unfortunately the two voices just don´t blend.

Right on all counts. What a voice, what a character, what a talent, what a loss. God bless you Steve. No one like you then or since.
