  • Fantastic talk

He spoke the truth without trying to pander to the idiots

He crammed a lot in whilst still remaining understandable

I have never heard of him before but he has a new convert :-)

  • E. extended life maybe however most people like my grandfather lived his last years unconscious & all doped up on drugs. refer 2 A. everyone dies, most r so afraid they dont truly live their potential!

    F. if we are doing so great with science why isnt there massive funding for FREE ENERGY? because oil/bankers/weapons/agribiz/drugs/chemicals corps. run the US gov. which runs the world with their military! this brothers attitude to me is 1 of dangerous ignorance/arrogance!

    his argument has holes

  • A. everyone dies.

    B. there is definitive evidence that GMO foods ( NOT hybridized, totally different subject entirely ) are detrimental to biological organism that ingest them.

    C. Yes although there is plenty of progress in the occidental world there are still plenty of people starving senselessly because of greedy economic & political agendas carried out by the US gov./military!

    D. while he may be right about some supplements he is dead wrong about herbs in their whole food state.

  • It is completely naive to think that the "scientific process" is simply about going forward vs. going back. It's about using 'science' to increase revenue & shareholder dividends. There is no science in allowing companies like DOW & Monsanto to prove that what they've created is safe.

And I'm sorry, but adding Vitamin A to a grain of rice is not the same as embedding a pesticide into a life form and patenting that new life form.

  • Smallpox gone...to be replaced with obesity, cancers and heart disease...all preventable, but exacerbated by the promotion of Industrialised Farming. Go forward? Not in the direction that this talk is suggesting.

As for GM foods being 'specific' the truth is there is NO DATA to show that these foods are safe...due to the data being supplied by the companies that benefit from the sale of the seed...truly a case of the fox looking after the henhouse. Many questions unanswered here!

  • This guy sounds like he is genticaly modified.

  • Homosexual activists understand the power of words.

Please visit my channel to watch a one-minute video clip in which popular atheist author Richard Dawkins admits that homosexual activists "hijacked the word 'gay'".

The word "homosexual" is more appropriate and accurate because it, unlike the word "gay", actually describes the behavior/attraction/relationship being discussed.

The word "gay" helps homosexual activists push their agenda.

  • He is an IDIOT

  • what study you referring to B S ?

  • How the fuck did I end up here?

  • "Let people do what they want to do. It makes them feel good." These words are extremely dangerous when put in certain context.

  • Some of the genetically engineered produce come with sterile seeds, Charming.

  • Michael Specter is either one of MONSANTO'S deplorable corporate shills hiding his true intentions in condescension and propaganda or an ignorant albeit specifically educated full grown child who cannot differentiate between his optimistic fantasy world and the real world around him.

  • people deny science because science is denied to people. it is not given to them. it is SOLD to them. we dont live in "the federation" where we are all in this together. we live in a world where evil - yes objectively evil - corporations run the planet.

  • does this prick work for MONSANTO or something? the danger isnt necessarily that food is being modified - it is that the modified foods are being grown in one place, then germinating all of the surrounding crops - then the owners of said GM crops are proving that the lowly farmer is growing something that is their property - thus forcing them to pay MONSANTO just so they can keep their own farm. IF PEOPLE WERENT DENIED THE PROGRESS OF SCIENCE THEY WOULDNT BE IN SCIENCE DENIAL DIPSHIT.

  • @TheR88R Isn't this why the "Terminator genes" were developed? Of course, people complain about that too. Monsanto are evil no matter what they do.

  • Comment removed

  • This guy needs to talk slightly slower.

  • Bravo. Every half-wit too afraid to read a book that wants to sound smart can't stop yapping about new age hooey and homeopathic placebos and the dangers of progress.... and these people don't get publicly humiliated nearly as often as they need to.

  • this a pure piece of propaganda. lets look at facts:

vaccines contain harmful additives like mercury and other toxins such as aluminium ect,

GMO's sterilize you, studies in mice or rats fed genetically engineered foods in the 3rd generation were sterile,

Global warming is a big propaganda piece gong after life,

vitamins and minerals are good for you,

big pharma is suppressing cures to disease and illness to make money off of,

GMO's, forced water fluoridation, Vaccines are all Eugenics

  • @BaberJacks vaccines do contain mercury, but it is so small an amount that it canot be harmful. Litebulbs and phone bateries also contain mercury, but it doesnt kil us despite using them daily.

GMOs are just a more precise way of cross-pollination of plants, like bees do. Its just more precise

97% of scientists have acknowledged global warming as a real problem. We are killing are planet

vitamins are good. Nice job sherlock

big pharma takes out elements of ilness, helping the overall condition

  • @BaberJacks Global Warming is not propaganda! There's data which proves that the average temperature of the Earth is rising.

  • Was he saying that Omega3, glucosamine+chondroitin don't work? I always thought they did!

  • @sk8rdaniel Omega3, glucosamine+chondroitin do work. this video was a propaganda piece entirely.

  • I know people that are prescribed vitamins by doctors. For Example, some people with homocystinuria can totally alleviate the metabolic disorder by taking B6 supplements.

  • Spencer himself isn't completely up to date on research. Chernobyl was overhyped and overblown by fear mongers. Rainforests are not under threat. We are now finding out that a massive civilisation once existed 1000 years ago in the Amazon and that when it collapsed the forests grew over it. The area of forest expansion was four times the area of Spain. If the forest wasn't there before it is no problem to get rid of it now, especially if it brings people out of poverty.

  • @aronpeterson121, about the Amazon are you making reference to ecological cycles, such as changing weather patterns?

  • @lowellriggsiam No, I literally mean as they clear parts of the Amazon they are finding a massive civilisation under the forest's canopy that existed there 1000 years ago and it covered at least half the area of the present forest. Much of the forest isn't that old, which has always been known because of the age of the trees.

  • @aronpeterson121 i agree with you, but not about the part with Chernobyl

  • GMO's SUCK! PROTECT AND ENFORCE WHAT IS FROM GOD! I hate propoganda!

  • @blazinbudsbitch Aren't you spreading propaganda right now? GMOs feed billions of people on this Earth. You would rather see them all starve? Is that what your religion is about?

  • @Spielzeit85 The way most farming is done now is un-sustainable. Un-sustainability causes depletion to an extent no one will have food. Is total depletion of resources(required to produce food) part of your religion? Go research where your food comes from sheeple, I'm not here to teach those who are too stubborn to learn.

  • I like the idea of using alternative power for everything, but how do We take away the money and power from oil companies?

  • @gp5 Stop giving it to them?

  • FOR SCIENCE!!

  • En el minuto 14:52, un señor del publico, a la derecha en el centro, se saca un moco y después se lo come!!

  • Ted Danson?

  • none of us believe the government

  • he said in the rich world....

  • watch?v=YH4OwBYDQe8 new studies out now. it is raining roundup.

do you own research. GMO is great? Fuck you, specter.

  • I know also that NATO is in denial.

I know also that religion is in denial.

I know also that the military are in denial.

I know also that governments are in denial.

I agree with the title of the video that science is in denial.

  • Science denial IS moronic, But denying "political involvement" in science is even mores so. "Where is fancy bread, in the heart or in the head? "

  • I only take anti-oxidants because they prevent hearing loss (sciencedirect. com/science/article/pii/S0378595500001763) [nice for other things that build as we get older too I guess] thumbs up because this guy is in scientific denial and other people should know!

  • Excellent! Science denialism is moronic, superstitious, and dangerous nonsense.

  • Some really inspiring insight from him.

  • This man has done and continues to do wonders for communicating science, as a scientist, i very much appreciate what you do!

  • Vaccination - The Hidden Truth. Let's get the facts straight.

  • @TheFreedomhope That that 'documentary' is comedy gold?

  • This guy is bunk, I am almost tempted to shout "Who do you work for", it's that ridiculous. There have been plenty of peer reviews on "certain" supplements to show that there is a positive effect. Just look up Immunocal if you doubt it.

  • Wow... For someone who claims to like facts as much as Mr. Specter, he sure doesn't spend much time checking them. This guy has absolutely no idea what he is talking about in terms of health and nutrition. What a disgrace to TED talks.

  • "trust big pharma! nothing else REALLY works!"

    -sponsored by the oil industry

    makes sense to me.

  • @AssistingHealth ugh. Big pharma that sucks I know, but they do work. When people actually get sick drugs and vaccines work. They either cure you all together (vaccines) prevent you from ever actually getting it, or hopefully postpone the effects or mitigate them so you can hopefully live more of a normal life. Listen to what he actually says. Have you ever dealt with small pox, MMR or anything like that? Are you living in a fantasy world or what

  • @AssistingHealth ugh. Big pharma that sucks I know, but they do work. When people actually get sick drugs and vaccines work. Listen to what he actually says. Have you ever dealt with small pox, MMR or anything like that? Are you living in a fantasy world or what

  • @AssistingHealth yeo its all about the money, big pharma suppressing cures to keep people dependent so they can suck out every last penny out of everyone before they die

  • PROTIP: ginkgo and Acai are consistently proven to have measurably positive affect.

    ginkgo: triterpenoids

    acai: proanthocyanidins

  • I'm from Brazil. The açaí its a naturally fruit from here. Here, we don't use it as vitamin source or any other stuff besides a good lunch.

By the way, its very caloric.

  • Who would take seriously a guy that has a pussy voice? lol.... If he ever took vitamins he would've outgrown that bitch voice of his.... We get our vitamins from our foods so if its a fraud to take vitamins like this asshole retard says, then why in the fuck does he eats! Another fool spitting foul in the air for the rest to hear!

  • @LALOMAN18

Judge an argument on it's merits not it's speaker

  • @LALOMAN18 who would pay any attention to anyone who was stupid enough to think that the tone of someones voice is more important than the point he's making...are you a religious man? you certainly sound like one. anyway, hope you get polio, have fun with your babies and their small pox

  • @LALOMAN18 The hypocrisy of your comment is unbelievable.

  • Wow, America is like the medival Catholic church.

  • Until recently, basic biochemistry dogma stated that one gene->one protein. Upon elucidating the genome, we discovered a 1:4 ratio of genes to proteins. You insert one gene, you're going to effect changes you have no way of predicting. Inserting a jellyfish gene into a tomato is not the same as crossing pea plants. We have a gaping hole in our basic biochemistry knowledge and we should remedy that before irreversibly altering the botanical landscape that has been evolving for millions of years.

  • @nadjamariska We've known for quite some time now that certain genes code for multiple attributes. And we can test for that, even though we might not know the exact biochemical pathway. We can test the end effects on protein compositions, enzyme composition or through animal testing (the latter which would be a whole appreach).

  • @nadjamariska The difference is that if I insert a jellyfish gene (are you referring to the GFP or so? :-p ) I know exactly which gene I am inserting and where I am inserting that gene. Which mean I can test for effects. Were I to cross two plants (for example to create the toluca potato), of which you combine wild genes with cultuvated plants, I have no knowledge of what I have inserted or where. Which means that the risk of allergenic reactions is just as big but the effects are harder to find

  • @aiyer1989 so what about crops being genetically engineared to produce sterile seed so the farmers become 100% dependent on the suppliers?

what if these crops are contaminating other crops by cross pollination?

the problem with genetic manipulation is the same as with all technology but arguably has far more disastrous results: they are invariably released onto the world long before all the long term implications are understood.

  • @Whisper6911 mostly because the force driving these things is driven by profits, and therefore, within the current cultural and legal paradigms, greed.

  • @Whisper6911 Well, first of all, those Terminator genes are not allowed by the UN, there is even a moratorium on research. Secondly, there are several types of terminator genes. One of those types is T-Gurt, which represses the ggo trait. One has to add another compount for the ggo trait to become active. The plant however still produces viable seeds so seed saving is possible. Personally I find that a worthwhile technology and research around that type of terminator gene should be allowed.

  • @Whisper6911 About being released into the world. That's for most traits not really a danger. There are two main considerations. One is that most traits don't give an evolutionary advantage to the plant. The second is that most of our farm crops are weak plants, in a natural environment they would not be able to compete against other plants. That makes the chances of the plant itself crossing over into the wild, very small. (Let's be honest here, I still have to see the first wild maize.)

  • Another possibility is crossing over of the genes itself. This is only important when those genes would give an evolutionary advantage with adverse effects to other species. Cross-species transfer, through say bacterial vectors, is negligable. The chance of that transfer as it is, is very minimal and the bacteria or virus would have to take coïncidentially the ggo gene out of a whole genome. The occurence chance of that would be completely negligable.

  • The only true possibility of genes spreading out would be to closely related species. However, whether that poses an ecological danger depends on the effect of the gene (evolutionary advantage or disadvantage) and whether or not such related plants are found. For example, in Europa GM maize or GM potato's would find no closely related species for hybridisation in the wild.

  • @Whisper6911 true, they did studies on i think it was rats or mice and they fed them GMO and they were totally sterile after eating gmo for 3 generations

  • @nadjamariska You clearly hasn't been reading JBC for the life of you.

  • thezeitgheist

Has all the asnwers to the energy problems.

  • I am not against GMO , but i do not trust Monsanto and Co. ........and we have all have a good reason not to. Do some research. Read the books of Marie Monique Robin.

  • @spinolex fuck gmo, studies show that 3 generations of consuming gmo and the 3rd generation was completely sterile, studies show in rats or mice

  • @BaberJacks I have no reason to doubt these results, but i think GMOs have the potential to be a big step forward for humanity. Unfortunately we are far away from grasping what actually happens when a Genom is modified. We know a lot, but there is more we do not know. The problem with GMOs today is that their development is motivated by corporate greed and that the companies do not really care about the health of the consumer. Heavy lobbying is also a problem, which makes fair debates impossible

  • @spinolex Little bit of insider info for you here. One of the lecturers on my biomedical course has stated that, currently, she and geneticists around the world are investigating the genetic modification of chloroplasts and chromoplasts in plants to engineer desired proteins. These proteins could be viral antigens for example. Basically, if it works, you could be vaccinated agaisnt a virus by eating a piece of fruit. This could save lives around the world.

  • Oh the irony, Ted Talks have someone speak up against pseudo science. Meanwhile they allow someone to use their platform to push the aquatic ape theory, which is as much pseudo science as it gets. Ted Talks is a joke and should deal with their own pseudo science or else they lose all credibility.

  • why is hemp never mentioned on ted, science allready has proved its superior qualities Its the corporations and politicians who sell lies

  • gerson theraphy with coffee enema s is a lot more effective then chemotherapy btw

the cancer chemo industry really is a big scam, most oncologists will not have chemo 'therapy'.

  • @ericjhemp yeh radiation gives you cancer coz kemo gives you radiation

  • People, this guy is totally a pharma troll, Iost respect for him about 60% through.

Vitamins (The right kind DOES WORK, he's a liar, xtend-life(dot)com for proof of the world's best, LEF also, try it, listen to Dr. Mercola, read studies or xtend-life site.)

He's lying about certain controversies, GMO's are NOT proven safe, it might be the same, but shouldn't we let them test it out first? There are too many questions with GMO's - he's working for Monsanto-watch The world according to Monsanto.

  • @1cyanideghost Yes, Read studies. Very good advice, now take it. There have been many studies on the safety of GMO products, long term and short term. The large majority (95% or more) have found GMO's to be safe.

  • @1cyanideghost the world according to monsanto is a good doco

  • Yawn..... I am looking foward to more people on the planet wanting air conditioned rooms. Burning reserve energy ie oil, coal, natural gas is the only reason we have 8 billion people on this planet. No amount of smarts will replace this energy source. What will happen is ALL sources or energy will be used till its gone. Alot of have nots are going to die so the haves maintain their way of life. Good luck kids your going to need it.

  • @cosmo1pug 8 billion people on the planet? where are you getting your numbers

  • Also, his rant against the so-called "organic elite" is bullcrap. Sure there has been biodiversity since "Garden of Eden", but the point he missed is that no-one was forcing foreign proteins and genes into the things we eat until recently. It was all in nature's best will. And now he's trying to demonize the effort of keeping food as unaltered as possible?

This really hurted my respect towards TED. Science is a process, yeah. But being cautious doesn't hinder that process. Recklessness does.

  • @uncere His point is that there is not proven harm from GE food, but people are still against it for silly reasons.

  • @uncere What is best for nature isn't necessarily best for us! I hope you realise that. Some plants in nature can kill us, others don't give us any nutrition.

Humans have been genetically modifying plants since year dot. Cross-breeding IS genetic modification. Please understand that. I have no respect for you if you read what I say and deny what I say. I speak the truth, end of.

  • @mikeyo1234 I agree with your first point, but how about not eating those plants that are poisonous or have no nutritional benefit? Also, I believe the well-being of our planet is imperative.

I do understand c-breeding is genetic modification in its most primitive form. However, there was no Bt-toxins or RoundUp Ready genes being bred. The genetic modification of today caters too much to the profit-hungry corporations, which patent food. Do some research on the sociopolitical effects of that.

  • @mikeyo1234 I'm sure you enjoy having (toxic) fluorosilicic acid, lithium and whatnot in your tap water; another breakthrough of science. (I don't even know whether you live in a fluoridated area, but you get the point.)

I'd love to get more in-depth into these arguments, but there's the character limit, and besides, lol@arguing in the comments section. Have a nice day. (:

  • @uncere Breeding has always been done in human's best intrest, not nature. Secondly, even classsical breeding is often forcing genes into a plant. Many of our new classic bred plants have genes that come from species they do not normally breed with. However, through the use of bridge species, we finally get the gene into our goal plant. Unlike with genetic breeding, we have no knowledge of which genes are all brought in and where. Which means a larger number of unknown variables => risk

  • Specter's so far off the mark. And a standing ovation, really?

_Of course_ people are against GE since it's biotech companies like Monsanto and Bayer (which everyone hates) which seem to _characterize_ it. Sure it's easy to just disregard that as "not an issue of science but moral and/or patenting". I'm not anti-science if I strongly dislike what they are doing to our agriculture.

Also, nice arguments against natural medicine. Sure the vitamin industry has it's problems too, but c'mon...

  • @uncere You sound like you believe in homeopathy. So don't tell me, you believe in raw food diets, you believe in all the 9/11 conspiracies, and you believe that there is a cure for cancer that was hidden from the public.

  • @mikeyo1234 No, I do not believe in homeopathy. At all. In fact, I almost typed in my earlier comment "natural medicine does not equal homeopathy". It's one of the more obvious frauds, which there are some, for sure.

Raw food diets, nope. Surely it is a healthier diet than what most people eat, though. I like my dead animal products, though.

9/11 conspiracies, no comment. Irrelevant in this context.

Cancer cure, not really. But I do think much of it is preventable via lifestyle changes.

  • I like most of what he says, but I deplore the way he breezes over the issue of corporate ownership of the world's seed stock. He also omits the very serious issue of science being driven by a profit motive rather than bettering the lives of all humanity.

  • Two words. Stem cell

    Fucking jesus tards

  • A couple issues with what he says. He complains about the money we spend on vitamins and then says adding vitamin a to rice will help people. OK? Genetically modified foods? I'm ok with some stuff, but I'm NOT OK with the terminator gene. I would also like to eat foods that don't need to be soaked in pesticides and herbicides. The stuff fresh out of the garden always tastes so much better than what's in the grocery store.

  • @acidflowers The terminator gene was developed to protect patents which he said is a different issue altogether. The U.N. banned the use and testing of them anyways, though. I too try to buy organic when I can, and I raise a garden, but not everyone has that option.

  • @acidflowers The terminator gene isn't allowed...So you don't have to be OK with it, it isn't used.

  • I was unaware that omega in tablet form had not been proven effective.

  • I agree to his views, except for his trust in genetically engineered food. There's more profit than actual science involved in that and that's a sure-fire way to create new problems. To quote Portal 2 "We're throwing science here and see what sticks"

  • @gwz You should look up the work done by Norman Borlaug. He is claimed to have saved over 1 billion lives from starvation due to his contributions to genetically modified plants. Here's a link to a vid if you were interested /watch?v=tIvNopv9Pa8#t=03m14s

  • @spp41 Yeah, Norman Borlaug was a giant. if the food industry was run by people like him I would most likely have no issues with GM crops. However, that is not the case.

  • in the past, people lived longer actually. native indians died when europeans brought the sickness. and going to the future, will only delay or even stop the procces. history is our best teacher. If You dont know were u came from , ask why it is you left in the first place . ancient astronauts lost in the past cause they took a shortcut to the future.

  • @jeshopk

Well that depends on which type of alternative medicine you're talking about. For example, I currently have three tabs open on my internet browser with three separate studies all showing strong proof that Acupuncture, Chiropractics and Homeopathic treatments do not produce any positive effect aside from placebo. For links to these studies just google search "neurologica" and click the top link. On that site search for the corresponding treatment and you'll find all the material.

  • I think I saw some dark urine people feeling a bit awkward around 10:14.

  • @jeshopk What facts don't stack up?

  • @jeshopk because a four year old will get sick and recover but when they bring it home from day care and exposes his/her 3 month old sibling , that sibling will likely die from it. Maybe you think it's no big deal. SS

  • It seems He thinks GMO's are without problems because he only spoke of their benefit's. He should follow his own advice, to think critically and remain skeptical. Mr. Specter should watch youtube video "The future of Food Full Movie" I would love to read his response or hear his talk after getting more information that is not one sided. SS

  • Fuck oil, grow hemp

  • @jeshopk Read an actual scientific journal article for once in your life. Wakefield faked all of his data for his own monetary gain, and was rightfully kicked out of medicine and science forever. Why care about measles? Why care about it when 700 kids in the Santa Cruz are already dead?

  • @jeshopk When I googled "product denial" to find out what the hell you were trying to say, the second hit was Urban Dictionary. The article was for "product denial sindrome", and suddenly I feel as if arguing with you isn't worth anyone's time. See you, enjoy fueling your placebo.

  • @jeshopk You understand that viruses mutate right? Indeed, they mutate inside us much more quickly than our population can mutate to adapt to the changes. Vaccines are basically crash courses in dealing with the new infection, what is he saying that questions evolution?

  • 207 people bought magnetized bracelets and Xango

  • @Nightowlerthing I don't doubt for even a second that a magnetic field has an affect on the cells of a human wrist. To say you KNOW what that affect IS, and that it's DESIRABLE... totally different situation.

  • I can't help but think that YouTube comments are the biggest QED this guy could possibly have.

  • This guy is full of shit !

  • @MrNobodyNothing Are you religious?

  • @leegeorgeson

    Are you conscious?

  • Fantastic.

  • After reading some of the comments here, I think Specter's comment "You are not entitled to your own facts," should be worded as "You are not entitled to re-write the biology textbook because you don't understand and/or your teacher failed you." Seriously: A pre-planned natural order? The smallpox virus died naturally? Life was better and more peaceful in the past? Where do people get these things from?

  • What a moron! I wish I could see your grocery list and the places where you shop at.

  • What a crock of bull.Just reverse everything he says and its closer to reality,no not mine of experts that actually study things like economy, vaccines,GMO foods. You need to accept everything he says is false, lie after lie, studies payed for by people that have economic interests in the results.

  • I agree with his main point, however if I don't take vitamin supplements I feel like crap. Guess he is not right about everything.

  • @sonicBlue00 PLACEBO !!

  • @LeanJedi don't troll every one knows a good diet helps you live longer

  • I wonder what would Spector say of the finding of 'The China Study', not that I care! Would he consider those findings scientific? The China study by Colin Campbell.

  • He made few good points. Unfortunately his is mixed baggage. We all have to get ourselves serioius and do our own research. Quacks are good at selling snake oil, true, while this guy can work well for Pharma lobby!

  • @LeanJedi You're absolutely right, LeanJedi. Each and every one of us has to get ourselves serious and do our own research. In which case, what evidence do you have that Specter works for Big Pharma? I'd appreciate any links. Thanks!

  • @IntrepidHomoludens Thanks. I don't have any (links). I thought, listening to him, that Pharma companies or companies into the business of gentically modified food love him for his views and will consider him suitable as their spokesperson!

  • See Jeffrey Smiths speech on GMO foods for a counterpoint.

  • I can't imagine what's wrong with putting Vitamin K in rice, and making Cassava safe to grow and beneficial to eat to those who eat. And besides, if you eat a balanced meal, you don't need a fucken multi-vitamin, he's right. None of my grand parents or great-grandparents have taken a Centrum in their life and they're pushing or have pushed 80, 90 and 100. DRselkirk, i thank Zeus you're not in charge, you'd happily let hundreds of millions of people die because your pompous ignorance.

  • Have to disagree on his premise of herbal medicine as "nonsense". I have an 800 page PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) on Herbal Medicine, written by Medical Doctors. Full of academic studies to the physiological effects of almost every herb known to man. I love science more than anything, but I think this guy went too far.

  • @MorrisonEnterprise There are many useful herbs, this is true. But there are also herbs that do nothing what people claim they do. This is an important difference.

  • @MorrisonEnterprise

"Full of academic studies to the physiological effects of almost every herb known to man"

Yes, herbs contain chemicals, that may have noticeable medical properties that can be studied and applied. But that doesn't mean something is "medical" only because it's a herb.

  • I love TED because they have talks like this, and I hate TED because bullshit like Jamie Oliver's speech wins.

  • Thinking of people like Jenny McCarthy and Oprah I can not help but recall my very most favorite line from the "Blackadder" series:

"To you, Baldrick, the renaissance was just something that happened to other people."

  • @DRSelkirk

I don't read Quackwatch or whatever, I just know the difference between alternative medications and medications which are proven to work. Mercola publishes biased articles. How can you not see sense? Smallpox kills hundreds of millions of people; vaccine is introduced; disease eradicated from society. There is an evident causal link.

  • I'm not so sure that advertisement at the end, was solely there for oil advertising.

Anyone who overlooked the Barcelona Supercomputer Center and the Seismic Imaging graphs that were exhibited along with their inferences upon the sophistication and instantaneous relay of the data that is produced by those machines, kind of missed the bigger picture... just saying.

  • @DRSelkirk

Like I'm going to believe anything that comes from an alternative medicine quack site. I'd recommend you read more about this mercola site before reading its articles.

  • @noobymooby Mercola references medical studies, interviews medical professors/researchers, has constant updates on new studies. I've read a lot about Mercola, seen his videos, I didn't come the the conclusion that he was a "quack". What are you reading QuackWatch? Because Stephen Barrett, M.D. is a brainwashed pawn. He didn't write that article I shared with you. Did you read it? Clearly another adamant response. Look into the questions I proposed.

Otherwise you have failed as an intellect.

  • Great speech

  • Science/technology is great when used for good intentions (not for making money and making businesses and gov. more powerful) Unfortunately big business and scientists work as one. Everything you consume has been manipulated by science, nothing is natural anymore. Big business doesn't care about feeding millions of starving Africans. It's a ploy. Their real goal is to control everything you are dependent on.. Food, medicine, products and eventually YOU

  • Just curious to why there isn't more thumbs down for this pawn. All one has to do is research his assumptions.

I would love to pump some vaccines into this guy and I hope he gets his every year plus more, but he probably doesn't.... booo.

  • @DRSelkirk your a christian im guessing?

  • @TheDeadManJack Nope. I just understand that vaccines are an unnatural form of immunity. Specter explains nothing about health optimization. Its easy to not get sick. Keep in mind that vaccines are products, products made by companies that have mass PR efforts to convince healthy people they need vaccines. "Herd Immunity" is a PR phrase that was probably developed at a meeting. Assumptions that I'm on a Christian bent, instead of hard science is just what a PR firm would love for you to think.

  • @DRSelkirk

As a Biomedical Student I can let you know that vaccines are an absolute necessity. There are so many diseases in developed countries that have been eradicated because of them... are you going to deny these facts?

Smallpox was responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths and it's gone because of a vaccine.

Oh but of course I'm just in it for the money, I don't care about the health of other people, I'm just doing it because I'm bored?

    Ignorant dick.

  • @noobymooby Well, you need to do some research before calling me ignorant. I was taught that in school too, from my brainwashed academically trained teacher. But you have to ask, was it truly the vaccine that did it? Maybe it was the lifespan of the virus? If you are after the health of these people than you shouldn't be injecting foreign proteins, DNA, RNA in them. How about the clearly labeled and toxic levels of aluminum? Over stimulating the brains immune system for decades? research pls

  • @DRSelkirk

Oh of course, it was just the life of the virus that happily coincided with the complete decrease in people with that disease. Not the vaccine which came out at that time... the numbers must be wrong.

  • @noobymooby This type of adamant response from the questions I proposed are exactly what real science isn't about. Just like Michael Specter you are falling into a hole of belief and generalization. Roger Schlafly, PhD wrote an interesting article here: articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/01/02/was-smallpox-vaccine-really-a-great-success.aspx

I don't think i can convince you of anything, but Specter is wrong. True science doesn't "deny" and neither do I.

  • @DRSelkirk

    Have fun dying of measles.

  • Theoretical vaccines never harm anyone, only contaminated ones do harm, and once done can never be undone. Contaminants include: SV40, hCG, MSG, Pestivirus, Viral fragments, Thimerosal (mercury), and there is no way of knowing what other contaminants can and will be introduced. The contaminants can be effective even if the vaccine is not. See: Vaccines and Brain Development and Global Vaccine Agenda

  • His behavior reminds me of Tony Stark.

  • Science is great but I am not so sure about scientists.

  • @jacobromu

I guess you should have add "flagged for the sarcasm-impaired".

  • @Diatonic135

There was only ONE human study, and it consisted of ONE meal? Sorry, that isn't enough to tell us anything.

Also, people are acting as if all GM food is exactly alike. A rice modded to carry vitamin A is not the same as a peanut modded to be non-allergenic.

The thing isn't the idea that *some* GM foods may have problems, and others may not. The problem is this insistence that genetics *itself* is poison. It isn't.

  • @darin1701

You have no idea what you're talking about.

  • Try this as a law/rule: Anyone who denies scientific facts, is not allowed to enjoy the thechnologies derived from it.

  • If you look at the science then it's obvious that vaccines DO cause problems. It's not the vaccines themselves but rather the additives they add to keep them viable such as mercury and aluminum. If you don't think that being shot with extremely high doses of mercury and aluminum is bad for you then I don't know what to say. There is a whole host of scientific data from all over the world supporting this also because I never believe anything without looking at the science.
