Movies and television are one thing, but I wish I had a time-teleporter to take me back to around this time so I could have watched Arlene's play in the theater. This one and Mrs. Dally Has a Love, that would have been fun to see. ^_^
I'm surprised that some of the cast members of Dinner At Eight crossed in front of Arlene after she introduced them. I always thought that was considered bad stage etiquette.
Okay I love Jayne Meadows and all but why does she look more like a man here? I'm not trying to be mean but in another video when she was first married to Steve she looked fantastic. Very beautiful but not now. Maybe it's her eyebrows. They look funny. Did she draw them on?
@IEnjoyHippies I must say I'm beginning to see what you mean about Steve and Arlene. I absolutely adore Martin and Arlene together of course but the pulling her chair out for her and then when she sits down again is just too cute.
Walter Pidgeon played Oliver to Arlene's Carlotta, and there is a rather funny story about opening night in Arlene's book - she's asked by Edna Ferber (one of the writers) to ad-lib something at the last second, but things don't go as planned once she gets on stage with Pidgeon. (Ah, the spontaneity of live theater, and I know it well too!) If you can get ahold of her book and read about this, you will be LOL - great story!
It it just me or was Arlene Francis one if not THE classiest ladys on TV back in the 60's?? Warm, funny, gracious...what a wonderful lady she was. Thank you for posting this opportunity for her friends at WML to sort of proudly brag about her stagework. Sort of sweet, really.
Holy Cow. Pamela Tiffin. I knew that name and face but couldn't place her till your post about "One Two Three". She must have been the Harlow character in "Dinner At Eight".
How unconventional this clip was. Arlene getting up and introducing all the guests etc. I think it's very nice how they made such a big fuss over her play, though, they seem genuinly proud of her, like a family would be.
Arlene enjoyed a reasonably long run in the 1966 revival of "Dinner at Eight." For those unfamiliar with the George Kaufman-Edna Ferber Play, we can fortunately buy DVD of the 1933 movie version, which still stands the test of time after all these years.
Here is another 1966 episode that G-T should have preserved the color videotape. All those gowns, full length, must have been eye-popping live color TV.
In the last few weeks, I've seen Arlene's trombone coach, the breeder of the Arlene Francis rose, Arlene's son, and now Arlene's co-stars... not that I'm complaining- can never get too much Arlene!

an amusing side note.....Arlene was a "victim" in the 1932 "Murders In The Rue Morgue."

It is lovely. And Steve pulled out the chair for her, too.

If only i could have been around to see Arlene perform. She was so classy and so elegant. No one today even compares to her.

Ahh I love Arlene Francis.
I think she was probably one of the most classiest women to ever be on tv.
She was funny and she got her zingers in there. But she was always very nice and lovely.
Plus she is always soo wonderfully put together.
Very Very attractive lady.

Walter Pidgeon had to be the lead actor in that play. He was a Hollywood star at this point.

Blanche Yurka was Madame De Farge in the great 1936 movie of "A tale of two cities". She was the embodiment of fury. She was a great stage actress

Speaking of June Havoc, NorbertR33 posted a very mystery guest clip of her bamboozling the panel way back in 1952.

Speaking of June Havoc's Sister...can't remember who posted it but there's one for Gypsy Rose Lee in WML.

Speaking of Pamela Tiffin: back in 1961 Arlene and Pamela co-starred in Billy Wilder's hyperkinetic cold war comedy "One Two Three"
Those interested in viewing it on YouTube refer to

YouTube has Jeffrey Lynn's screen test as Ashley Wilkes in GWTW. I like him better than Leslie Howard.
YouTube features WML clips with Walter Pidgeon, all amusing.
Old Time Radio features several recordings of "The Big Show" in which MIndy Carson sings.
Pamela Tiffin appeared in the WML clip of Peter Gabel and Chris Cerf appearing as contestants. She seemed to be lost in space.
Somewhere in YouTubia we find McGavin as a mystery guest in color syndicated WML discussing D@8.
