Make sure when you name the file, make sure .png is lowercase. I did it uppercase, and it didnt work until I put it in lowercase. Example:

a better way to do this is through a program called iExplorer. its free. it lets you see all the files in your idevice. download it. connect your idevice. open root/private/var/stash/themes and go to the top of iexplorer click on new folder name it sms wallpaper. get an image from your computer (whatever you want to use) rename it SMSBackground.png (make sure you put .png) and drag it in the SMS wallpaper folder. go to winterboard and tap on sms wallpaper so that its active and youre done

@IKIRI3IWI Honestly I was having the same problem...Download "WinSCP" for your computer and install the Cydia app "OpensSSH". There are videos that show you how to do this. Follow this video but instead of doing it on your iPhone - do it through WinSCP by creating a "SMS Wallpaper" folder in /private/var/stash/Themes and copying a "SMSBackground.png" picture into it. Then use the Cydia app "Winterboard" and check it off under "Select Themes"...I spent hours this is the ONLY way it worked for me!

Does anyone know how to get this working for the Retina display at full res? I can get it working but it doesnt display correctly, zoomed in on the top left. I have tried adding the @2x extension but then it doesnt load at all. is it even possible?

getting this working on iphone 4s retina screen is easy. Just make sure you have 2 copies, one named SMSbackground.png and one named SMSbackground@2x.png!

I looked every where trying to work it out yet soooo obvious but incase anyone else is struggling!!!

@Taaning download another premade theme for sms, then paste the SMSBackground.png into the folder for that already made theme and overwrite the picture thats already there... I just did that and it worked ^_^

@LaBarbie0426 when its in you hold your iphone vertically, you cannot see your entire wallpaper, when you hold it in landscape mode , you see the same wallpaper but with the side that was missing in vertical mode.

it is better when you use an abstract wallpaper, you will not see the wallpaper is cut in vertical mode.
