When you think that artists like Pedro the Lion, Dainelson Famile, and Soul-Junk bill themselves as Christians, it's hard to see why you say it's a "shame" Sufjan's Christian. Digammo had a good point.

There is huge diffence between religious and spiritual.
Sufjan is an episcopalian christian.
Deeply rooted in history, curiousity, etc.
He is a genius.
He has his doubts, his questions, but he also has a lot to say.
