The reason Mortal Kombat is still losing steam is because the original had shit gameplay. All the moves were the same for each character and the only difference were the special moves. The ONLY reason that game stayed alive against Street Fighter was the violence. Now, since the gore and the digitized sprites are no longer a shock and novelty, the game has begin to suffer to games that already had a solid, deep fighting engine, like Street Fighter.

@HumorousLOL I'm assuming you haven't played the most recent iteration? The game play is fast paced and surprisingly deep. As an avid street fighter player, I am thoroughly impressed with the latest MK. Unfortunately, the online is practically unplayable with the amount of lag present.

@NeonKiller187 Dude, my entire point wasn't about the new one, and yes I actually own it. MY point is that MK in general has never been a very good game. Violence and blood does not equal a good game. The main thing that kept it alive was the extreme violence for the time. Now that all the shock has worn off over the years and violence is no longer a main selling point, the game had to go through major changes just to appeal to more people and compete with games like Street Fighter.

There is something that i don't understand about MK Developers. Namco has launched Pac-man aniversary arcade machines. The arcade usually includes galaga. If a simple game as Pac-man has been alive for so many years. Why there is no re-builds of any MK arcade machines??. From MK 1 Through out MK 4. I've had visited many arcade places and there is no MK Machines. I would love to play this arcades. I'm wondering if any company will build this machines again. I miss old time MK games.

For the comment above about reptile. i dont know if you face him as an opponent in this version. But you can fight him in the Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended play for psp. if anyone doesnt believe me, just type in (Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play Reptile fight) to see for yourself. The silouettes that fly past the moon in The Pit appears after you fight six times on the pit stage in a single playthough.

I swear, looking back Mortal Kombat was a groundbreaking game!! It was violent as hell for it's time and the graphics were pretty good when it game to the characters' looks and movement. Can't wait for MK 9 this year!! :)

I did get this game. the pit stage fatality does in deed have dead bodies on the bottom as I have seen them clearly with bodies and blood. the stage fatality in this video is on the far right. yeah the music is mising in the 2nd stage , but I was having too much fun to notice. the boss fights are tougher than i expected having shang tsung being the hardest behind goro in MK1. being that shang is cheap as hell and he is so unforgiving. and thats why its so much fun. its as close as we will get.

ah, so you can't fight reptile in this one? pity. so either it was cut or this is based on an earlier version of MK (if memory serves, Reptile wasn't added until version 3.0).

so that means the first "truly arcade perfect" commercial version of MK1 was Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition on the PC (after the patch, anyway, heh).

@XSC3 No sign of reptile anywhere until now, as in the description, look like the revision is random picked but in the arcade even the klues are something rare. There are some details that we can check wich one the game picks but we know how those guys in midway where lazy. Also, no sign of him in the Midway Arcade treasures in PSP too

They say that this is supposed to be an Arcade accurate port of MK1, it's probably not 100% accurate to the original Arcade release.

I saw an ad for this in GamePro years ago. When I heard about the Premium Pack with Arcade MK1, I was like "I have to have this, not the standard, but the Premium Pack."

I got mine at Best Buy for $60.00 and I still have it to this day but my PlayStation 2 (original) is shot.

by da way, on NES u can put a code to enable a lil menu of cheats on the MAIN MENU like im doing now on da emulator and thats where u can enable blood but also there's a direct code to enable blood and that how u see da spine cum off and for most characters there's a diferent fatality with arms off and all dat stuff :)

O meu mortal kombat já tem a tremida qndo se é congelado pelo sub-zero e em baixo na ponte tem os corpos e cabeças, mas ainda ñ consegui ver o Reptile, pelo q eu sei pra lutar contra ele tem q ganhar por flawless victory todos os rounds das 3 primeiras lutas e dar fatality, mas nem sinal dele, do resto é igual ao arcade.

Pra lutar contra ele basta 2 perfects e fatality na ponte mas é preciso que tenha uma silhueta passando pela lua, coisa extremamente rara de acontecer e que até agora não vi nenhuma vez nessa versão de ps2.
