  • Extremely helpful thank you.... :)

  • 10 people who saw this, didn't get a job

  • I don't think this question is that tough. The really tough question is : "What set yourself apart from everybody else we interviewed today?" I really choked on that question in my interview today. I usually say that i'm a hard worker but i cna't think of anything unique to respond that other ppl haven't said.

  • I think your videos are awesome GOOD JOB MAN i wish i would have a teacher like you

  • Good Job!

  • this guy know what hes talking about want to know why i know that well he has 3 pc screens in the back round haha but this really helps

  • Comment removed

  • besides that lol really good help!!

  • LMAO at his intro!! HHHHaaai

  • Fuck that I'll just say whatever

  • this is by far the best analysis i've seen. just awesome, thanks!

  • ...now where do I start

  • that was really complicated

  • i've got a scholarship interview tomorrow. i'm just so glad that i'm going trough all these videos.

  • It seems unfair to judge a person on a short interview

  • What happens if you go off on one teling him all of this and then he just laughs at you and says, "hey kids i didnt ask for your life story ive got others to see to day"

  • example answer to question starts at 2:23

  • you are the best 8) can i work for you for free lol and you be my mentor

  • I think im just gonna go with th flow for my job interview

  • This should not be the toughest question.

Be short. Always be presenting your past as it relates to the job.

    Practice, don't improvise.

  • Guess I'm just wired differently. You ask me about myself, you get the whole story. I see it as if you ask the question and your not interested in my answer then Im not interested in your company

  • Better to listen than to watch the video. The weird eyebrow thing is too distracting.

  • the sample answer started at 2:26

  • thumbs up if you paused the video to see/hear where the "ding" noise was coming from

  • Damn, this guy is good lol

  • i don't think we need to see the other interviewees, or ask you any further questions... you have the job... welcome aboard

  • What if you are fresh out of college like hundreds of thousands of students, and have no work experience?

  • @Hotts4you More like millions, that's the problem, years ago firms would hire recent college graduates for their entry level positions, and I'm not talking about insurance sales (which is more like a business franchise opportunity than anything else) but now firms want people with 5-7 years of experience for entry level positions. In real-life this guy in the video would probably be applying for a sales manager position at a Sears big box store due to this thousand year famine and pestilence.

  • @Gooster7 stop hating ! he is good and you need to learn from a man like this !

  • @SirenaSwimwear I'm not hating, the economy sucks.

  • I love your videos!! Your method will definately get me the job of my dream!

  • Seriously, how do I learn to raise my eyebrow like that??

  • GUYS!!!! Were over looking the most important part of his answer, it wasnt nything he said... it was his eyebrow!! THat eyebrow is epic, i mean how could you not hire a guy that can raise one of his eyebrows so much higher than the other!?!?!

  • @joshpullen1 lol ur so funny

  • @zidane583 And it's people like this that get jobs everywhere and frustrate the heck out of everyone because they can't do their job. Not to mention that they are stealing jobs away from people who actually work hard in their lives and have integrity. Integrity is sadly extremely hard to find these days...

  • It sounds like you know what you are talking about, and I'm no professional at judging this, but honestly it was a bit boring for me. I hope this is not what potential employers want to hear bc it sounds more like a complex story.

  • I hate how interviews favor people who are well spoken and outgoing. I know people that are great workers, they're just a little introverted. On the other hand, I know people that can talk shit all day, but don't do dick at their job.

  • @risingsun08107 HUHUHAHAHAHAHUHUHAHAHAHAH well said.

  • @risingsun08107 - I completely agree... pissed off, but can't help, having to live with it..

  • @risingsun08107 so true.

  • Your videos actually helped me get my first entry-level job out of college. It definitely took me many tries but I finally landed in a position that I think suits me well. Thank you so much!

  • I stumbled upon these 5 toughest questions after googling responses to question #1. I'd have to say that this is the best, most thorough, informative and useful response I've read compared to the sites I've visited. some sites encouraged saying you're a perfectionist in response to the 'what is your greatest weakness' question while you immediately filtered it out as a trite response. that alone instantly told me that you offer quality advice and tips..good work.

  • Compared to other similiar videos, this is a good video, especially the example provided.

Gives me greater confidence to answer this question well, hopefully.

    Thanks

  • local job search careerstartnow.info have an interview coming up

  • but i.wanna know about ur tennis games ツ lol jk thanks good help

  • Thanks. This series helped me get my first job.

  • i agree with @jesusfreak84 useless ass question for when your applying to retail jobs with no experience, fuck the job market

  • thank you for such helpful tips. I spent like 45 seconds on jibber-jabbering about my education and other unimportant stuff before realizing I was on the wrong track. Luckily, I got accepted though.

  • this was impressive and very helpful

  • Why does this guy keep looking it my right arm???

  • QUESTION: What are some keywords that should avoided when answering a question like this?

  • "....You are not responding to match.com ...."

  • perfect

  • I think the systematics behind your answer is very good. Though, I do not think that this answer will be benefial at all in a real interview situation. First of all, the answer is totally memorized (or read off) and every skilled interviewer will immediately feel that. Secondly, your answer is too perfect. imho it is essential to prepare well but the goal is to engage the interviewers sympathy.. and I personally dont feel sympathy for so. how takes the first question to tell me how great he is.

  • So your saying I should say... Well I am 16 years old and my only advantage to this job interview is that I am willing and able, I get on with people easily and enjoy earning my own money as it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I have no qualifications or work experience and have left school for over a year without finding a job or applying for a college course... Pick me? =))

  • I like how all these tips are for like corporate jobs. What about tips for retail like Target, or Staples or something?

  • what if you don't have work experience? what kind of questions are asked for beginners?

  • Sounds like a bullshit answer to me. Don't get me wrong, if you gave me this answer and the position was blowing up hot air balloons, then you would be a definite hire.

  • great video :)

  • thanks a lot, its a great example!

  • thank you!!! finially someone with an example and a good strong answer that i can relate to! such a relief

  • This is all great, but doesn't really help me as a recent college grad with limited work experience.

  • yea such detail and success in your past so why are you trying to get hired?

i'd rather ask "why did you decided to switch jobs" since he sounds so hardcore.

saying leading software company blaah blahh blaah generating 50 G'z

so you downgrading or upgrading since u mentioned "Leading software company"

too long.. i'd get hired to make em fall asleep at night.

  • whoa WAY TOO LONG!! I didn't like this answer

  • can someone tell me whats the music played in the intro? please

  • Even I know that this question doesn’t mean tell your whole life story.

  • Can you send me a message and let me know how you made this video? I am new to YouTube and would like to create professional looking videos like this. Sitting in your home office doing what you do everyday- Serving your clients. I liked the sound used to draw attention to the bullet points, Nice touch- Content was well presented, thanks for any info you can share. Sincererely, Michelle Lee, An Exception To the Rules!

  • @BackToTheBasicofLife I use either a Sony handheld camcorder or a Logitech Webcam to capture the video, an iPad as a teleprompter and then edit the movies on my Mac in iMovie. The whole process is pretty simple, and iMovie lets me add captions anywhere within the movie and drop a sound effect on top of the caption. I create the entry and exit graphics in Keynote and export them as Quicktime movies that I drop into iMovie. All the tools are easy and inexpensive, so anyone can use them.

  • A very usefull video. I had an interview trainingsession 2 days ago and concurs with your infomation. They talked about a STAR method (Situation, Task, Actions and Result) to structure this type of question. The best thing about this video is you actually give an example how to answer the question when being interviewed specific function.

Much appreciated and keep up the good work.

  • This is all really great advice that I plan to adopt. Do you have any tips on how to answer this question in an interview for graduate school? I have an interview coming up for my MFA and my degree is in the creative/arts field. While I think you make some really great points I can't help but wonder if this could be applied to the type of interview I am going on. Thoughts?

  • this is great info...you should add transcripts...i keep rewinding

  • @insideaNWO thanks for the kind words. the transcripts for almost every video are always available at theJobShopper(dot)com. Click on over and take a look at all the videos and career supporting posts.

  • I really like this ive screwed up tons on interviews because of this questions!! thanks so much im going to a job convention next week i needed this??

  • @ChefAkeem A little preparation and practice will help you separate yourself from all the other candidates out there. Best of luck at the job convention.

  • Dear Mr. Heaney, I want to thank you for helping me land my new position! Your structured tips and advice help me have confidence in realizing my own skills. I appreciate you video! You ROCK!!

  • @vangw01 I can't tell you how thrilled I am to hear from job seekers like you who have been able to use my videos to improve their preparation, increase their confidence and land the job they were after. Thanks for the kind words and best of luck in your new job.

  • That was a very lucid explanation of one of the toughest interview problems.

  • *draw drop* very good advice, but i still think you should say at least one line of something away from academics and experience.

  • @missanctified I don't agree. This is a job interview, not a dating interview. Your interviewer is interested in three things: can you do the job? do you want to do the job? and do I want to work with you on the job? This question is intended to elicit a response that addresses the first two questions. The quality of your answer and your general demeanor throughout the interview will address the third.

The time to provide more personal detail is during a follow up or lunch interview.

  • This tells me nothing about you, it tells me about what you did at your jobs in the past.

  • Why they dont ask " Tell me about your work experience" then. So this is a trick question. So your employer wants to trick you on your interview. Trick him back and start lying!!! It works most of the time.

  • @expressmalta it's not a trick question, but it is intended to provide the interviewer with insight into how you interpret and respond to an open ended question. It's not just intended to elicit a recitation of your work history, but what you're good at, what drives you and how you channel your passions in your work. Lying won't hold up through a reference check, so it's best to be honest in your self appraisal and practice your response to make it as strong and compelling as possible.

  • Useful advice! It helped me answer my personal statement for my college application.

  • Useful advice! It will help me answer my college personal statement question. I think you should do a series about how to answer college essay questions.

  • Very useful advice. I appreciate it.

  • I just got rejected from a job. haha. I wish I would've seen this beforehand. agh. fml.

  • @blainethebassist buzzkill

  • This guy would not have much of a chance at an interview, because he would need the answers written out so he can read them, just like he's reading a chart for this video !!!!.

  • @AustinPetDetective he's not reading a chart. He kinda wrote out an example but whenever you go to an interview, it'd probably be best already having an idea of what you're gonna say and how you plan on answering all the questions.

  • I have a phone interview tomorrow and this helped me a lot. Thank you so much!

  • hii, can you give me a suggestion about the same for a fresher ?

  • This guy looks like buzz light year from toy story

  • very nice.. i learnt a new thing today.. thanks and this will help me a lot..

  • I wish I can speak like you w/o the "ums"

Very nice, simple and deadly effective.

  • @rodriguezmy2982 I'm thrilled that the videos helped you. Getting ready to put up another series on what questions to ask during the interview.

  • HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKIN BOUT PPL! **PAY ATTENTION**

  • Great video!! I am (was) a waitress in college. Recently I saw an flyer for a receptionist position at a law firm. I sent in my resume ,but I felt doubtful because I lacked any experience beyond working in a restuarant :(. Once I got a call back for an interview, I watched your videos and felt totally confident. GOT THE JOB....no i am not the "executive manager of employee relations" however it is a 9-5 w/o weekends sort of job!! THANX

  • Your insight is great - I for one would really appreciate some EXTENDED videos about interview process and other similar advice.

  • Do you mean, "bullshitting"? Why interviews have to be such a performance?. So many people get hired after a great interview and turn out to be bad employees. Why to look at people like they are anything but people with lives? Interviews are useless, it is impossible to show potentials, real experience, ambition, dreams, talents and even more tools in one sit-down interview. Personality and personal life should also be part of the process.

  • @venemiamiespanol although there certainly are candidates who attempt to fake their way through their job interviews, that doesn't mean that the interview process itself is worthless. A skilled interviewer should ask probing questions that elicit answers that detail actual experience, require the job seeker to walk the interviewer through a real-life project or activity, & provide evidence of demonstrable results. Personality is important in determining if the candidate and company culture fit.

  • Very impressive. Thank you.

  • id hire you cause you talked alot throw in some more important words and id end the interview and hire you, lol. nice i think i can use some of this.

  • Thank You Thank You Thank You!!

I found that extremely helpful as I have stumbled over this question more times that I would like to admit. Never again though!

  • Useless, useless, useless for someone with zero job experience. How do those of us with no experience, no internships, no "professional accomplishments" field this question? What about those of us who have nothing to "sell" ourselves on except what we did in the classroom, that being 2 years ago for some of us? The best I can ever do when asked this is mention my majors and just "term drop" every IT-related term I already have on my resume, and it comes across as it is: inexperienced.

  • @JesusFreak84 although it's true that this video series is intended for professionals who already have work experience, the key to the response remains the same whether this is your first or 51st interview: tell the interviewer what they want to hear. If you have no job experience, then your response will by default have to revolve around your skills, interests and aptitude. For an entry level job, focus on your dependability, strong work ethic, creativity, desire, enthusiasm and commitment.

  • @NescoResource agreed. also, if your going to school, listing keywords in your courses that pretains to your job is very helpful. For an example of this, we can say you applied for a job that requires you to analyze and research. i could say that in my english course, we were challenge with analyzing our work and others while researching topics given to us from our professor. Then you can mention results like in maintaining a high GPA and the rest should come to you but, it takes practice.

  • @NescoResource dude whats the name of the song on the intro?

  • excellent overview, and I'm glad you provided an example.

  • This is a great response, not found anyone who is as good as that anywhere.

  • good advice!

  • To assist at your job interview, see my YouTube video. Simply type in MaryNLowLow, then look for video titled "Top 36 Job Interview Questions & Answers 2010"
