I just bought 2 lipsticks the other day. I love the glamour that comes with wearing lipstick. This video really captured that glamourous feeling and I like the way you speak :)
i love this tutorial! I have full lips and always wanted to wear lipstick but i have no idea how to start this mess lol. I have problems with colors and finding the right kind and what not. I wear minimal make up and would love to play up my lips. This is helping some. Thanks :)
Great video! The stained lips are my favorite, I use it everyday topping it with just a little bit of lip balm, i love how natural it looks even though I'm using a very bright matte lipstick to get that effect.
Amazing video, Lipstick is my favorite cosmetic!!! Try using translucent powder as a matte base for your lipstick to go on top. It gives me the sharpest lines. It saves my life on set!!!
Just invested in my first expensive lipstick- so worth it! Thankyou so much Lisa :) Love your passion for makeup- the real kind..like aubrey hepburn & elizabeth taylor :) Inspired me to experiment and take more time to admire makeups glamour and beauty xx
Beautiful Lisa! Thanks so much for all your advices! One question though: when I apply dark lipsticks they tend to run a bit into the fine lines around the lips while I'm wearing them… is is a way to avoid that?
@kativilaga Lip liner was originally made to prevent that from happening. Use a nude color lip liner to create a barrier between your face and your lips.
Colored lip liner will require more touch-ups to prevent the "dark ring" around your mouth. But with nude lip liner, you can use a heavier hand and create a more effective barrier.
hi lisa .. i have pigmented upper lip... i cant wear al shades.. and the color of the lipstick comes out different after application .. wat do u suggest ?
I'm 56 and I love to watch your videos. I have a lot of make-up products but unfortunately use them so little. Hopefully you would do a video for women of my age. Nice work Lisa!
Hello! Have a look at my beauty channel. I could use the support, and I would love to hear feedback! Who knows? It might be exactly what you're looking for. :)
You look like an older sister or cousin of Kristen Stewart's but only at certain angles(I personally think you're more beautiful) . Haha! This sort of deep blood berry color looks divine on you! I think a sort of burnt red orange colored stain or maybe a sheer yellowish lipstick may be coming into trend not to mention they would look magnificent on you!!!! Love your videos! XO
Wonderful video!! Off the subject, I would love to see a video on using the Asian Blemish Balm foundation/tinted moisturizers. I'm totally hooked on your channel!
You are the only person who make me wear lipstick I have been trying on the make up counter since I found you. I have tried most of the look you post and adapted to my skin and eye shape. a perfect dupe for black orchid I found is Revlon colorburst lipstick in plum, it has a lovely formula and it is also on clearance at CVS. I got it for just less than $3 :)
@lololuv2012 I have a lipstick from the Body Shop which is also similar (I forgot the name/number of the lipstick). It's very similar to the one Lisa used aswell =]
i love this tutorial lisa! i hope that you're not dissuaded from doing more vids like this when there are ppl like michelle that are too lazy to come up with their own ideas.
@AznSinger8 as well as getting comments here i've also started to get messages about this via my website etc now. I just want to say I really don't want to get involved in this in any way. You tube is not my job (I have full time job as a make-up artist already) and I dont have time to watch and critique other peoples videos. I'm sure this will all blow over very quickly anyway (hopefully!). Thanks to everyone who watches and enjoys my videos X
i like the cream blush technique. i have known that lipstick can be used as blush, but didnt know exactly how. and i had tried myself with my own stupid technique, and thought it didnt work hahaha thanks to this tutorial :)
@d1v1n391 And if there was nothing wrong with that, your original comment would still be there. But obviously someone felt it needed disappear. However, it was obviously clear that you were not merely stating a fact, but offering an opinion that was not welcome, constructive or necessary and just plain rude.
u guys are defending michelle for no reason !! she obviously saw this and thought no one would realise... but seriously she copied!!! im a michelle fan but this is over the top, she used the same wording, if anyone disagrees, i dont care!!!
@tumtumpopstar123 how dumb do you think michelle is? how can she not think no one would know? lisa eldridge is famous in the guru section, she would know everybody would notice if she did something like that. the technique michelle said were so basic every makeup artist knows about it, if you look back at her old videos she uses the same technique. Powder and lipgloss are so basic. Also she uses eyeshadows on her lips to shape them.
@stephisraddd I agree. Michelle only mentions two of the same techniques as Lisa...using your fingers for a sheer effect and blotting with tissue and using powder, which seem like basic tricks makeup artists use. I think both did a good job explaining the different ways to use a lipstick, with similarities and differences.
Even if Michelle didn't intentionally copy this video, Lisa's video is so much more carefully done, with so much more precision as well as more information.
please people, these tricks are no new discovery, they are known by makeup lovers everywhere, it doesn't mean michelle "copied her". merely search lipstick techniques online and you'll find ideas similiar to that in their videos.
I completely agree with the whole luxury of applying lipstick. I love touching up mine. I always bring my lipstick, my brush, and my liner around with me in an old glasses case. :)
I have always grown up thinking lipstick was old fashioned, but thats why i loved it. i remember i wore bright red lipstick to school one day and everyone was talking about how "bold" I was. I was like.... ITS JUST LIPSTICK!!!
@stephisraddd Completely different?? Look, I love both of them, but there's no denying that the videos are practically identical. They talk about, like, the EXACT same stuff!
@stephisraddd Lisa Eldridge adds powder to make them more velvety. Also, that one slight difference certainly doesn't debunk the observation that these videos are very, very similar:P
Hi I really like this video! This is the first time I watched your video and I subscribed happily! Its a great thing to know there are wonderfully talented makeup guru out there.
I'm not one to compare but the difference between this channel and Phan's is that Eldridge dedicates her time to make a sometimes long but informative and high quality video while Phan's video is annoyingly rushed and therefore low quality. This almost makes Phan's subscribers feel that the video was made because she HAD to not because she cared about her subscribers but rather took more time to make HERself look good and slapdashed the rest.
@DiiDee66 IMO I'd rather watch Michelle's because I'm more interested in just knowing the different techniques than all the background. Not interested in a 14 minute video about four ways to wear a lipstick, but I guess that's just me.
@DiiDee66 Or perhaps Michelle just focuses more on giving you the info you NEED to know, and uses a less "Professional" setting to make her videos more welcoming and friendly. And which guru has over a million subscribers again...? Oh yeah.
Don't get me wrong, I like Lisa too, but they both have very different approaches to makeup. Michelle is about being straightforward and friendly, Lisa is about being informational and precise. But they're both great, so just drop it.
@FreshLemonyGoodness Who cares over some stupid million subscribers? Lisa is a professional makeup artist, both of them are. But she's been working professionally and represented many big fashion houses for years and working with the A-listers.......
Why the hell am I commenting about this? Ok, good nite...
@reikodiana I merely used that to point out that Michelle's channel IS a bit more welcoming, which is probably why she's so popular. Her channel is especially welcoming to new makeup users. Lisa's a bit intimidating for someone who just discovered the joys of makeup.
@FreshLemonyGoodness Hello, I respect your opinion . . . up until the last 4 words. You are no one to tell me, or anyone else, what to do. I suggest you think before you speak and write.
@DiiDee66 Well fine. Go ahead and read more into 4 stupid little words that merely mean to calm down and move on with your life because arguing isn't worth it and sure as hell isn't getting you anywhere. Forgive me for running out of characters to say it in a "nicer" way.
If you want me to sound nice, then maybe you should try that too, because that last comment of yours was very rude.
I have never considered purchasing dark lipsticks because I don't like dramatic lips, and I am not very fond of my natural lip color which is kinda dark. But now that I watched this video, I wanna go out and buy myself one lol I never dreamed darker lipsticks could be so wearable, too.
You are so beautiful. I recognise you from somewhere but I never knew you did YouTube videos - expect a subscription in the next few seconds! Oh and I'm about to go back through all your videos now. =)
Would you happen to know any 'cures' for really obvious undereye veins? They ruin my life, but I also don't want to have any plastic surgeries in case something goes wrong. :/
I bought a mac lipstick recently that's really similar to this one and have been slightly terrified to wear it during the day, not anymore! Such a useful video, thank you :)
Your face and demeanor is exactly what I envision a queen of England in those books about European kings and queens that I love to read to be, absolutely refined and elegant
I love using lipstick as a blusher! yesterday I noticed my blush was very blotch and it was very obvious since it's orange. So i took my bright red lipstick that I carry around with me all the time and touched up that area and it blended nicely.
I got a similar lipstick (from MAC's ´what joy´ from their new collection) as this and i'm absolutely loving it. I do the dapping thing and it looks just like i ate berries :) looks very current and also effortless!!
@MsMagpie1985 That's prolly because you aren't working your lipsticks like Lisa said, you really need to work it in hard in the wrinkles of your lips and then blot it, and then apply the gloss.
That lipstick looks simply amazing on you! I've never worn a colour like that but I'm keen to try it this winter! Great tips! I'm definitely trying the stain look and the lip brush, I can never get my bright colours to stay!
Hello Lisa, I just discovered you. Wow, you are a class act indeed!
I know you're a makeup artist by profession, but dare I request a hair video? Your hair is so beautiful and I'd love to learn how to do this look myself.
Lisa, what are your thoughts on usage for the Beaute lip cremes? They seem to exist in all realms of lipstick/gloss/stain, etc. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the product! Thanks!
i v seen this video for over 5 times and im still catching little details.i ve noticed hundrents of times that when i wear vivid lipstics, especially dark ones, they become fascinating when they fade out , without disappearing completely. just like being kissed, or having a busy day. but i never thought that i could put it faded from the start!! what a brilliant idea!! you are my make up guru!
(bought no40 of the late chanel range"velvet"gorgeous!)
You have beautiful skin, can I ask what skincare products you use? I love your video tips, but my skin just doesn't like makeup so it always looks poor and obvious.
Lisa, I know it may be a little intense but seeing as it is Halloween soon could you maybe do a video about wearing black (or very, very dark) lipstick? As always, fantastic video!
Why didn't you do this sooner! How many lipsticks have I disposed of because the color wasn't right??? Now I know. Thanks for the tips, they were fantastic!
Thanks Lisa, this looks wonderful on you. I am very bad at identifying if this is a warm or cool colour, would you say it would work for someone with warm olive skin? x
I just bought 2 lipsticks the other day. I love the glamour that comes with wearing lipstick. This video really captured that glamourous feeling and I like the way you speak :)

I have never considered purchasing dark lipsticks because I don't like dramatic lips, and I am not very fond of my natural lip color which is kinda dark. But now that I watched this video, I wanna go out and buy myself one lol I never dreamed darker lipsticks could be so wearable, too.

I find that putting gloss over my lipstick makes it "bleed" all over the place. How do I prevent this?
MsMagpie1985 4 months ago
@MsMagpie1985 That's prolly because you aren't working your lipsticks like Lisa said, you really need to work it in hard in the wrinkles of your lips and then blot it, and then apply the gloss.

Not going to lie, that last look is so intense it's almost distracting. I could only watch your lips as if I was reading them.

Thanks!

hi dear lisa :)
you are a makeup genious!
i v seen this video for over 5 times and im still catching little details.i ve noticed hundrents of times that when i wear vivid lipstics, especially dark ones, they become fascinating when they fade out , without disappearing completely. just like being kissed, or having a busy day. but i never thought that i could put it faded from the start!! what a brilliant idea!! you are my make up guru!

You have beautiful skin, can I ask what skincare products you use? I love your video tips, but my skin just doesn't like makeup so it always looks poor and obvious.

Why do you blot before putting on gloss? Since you are going to add shine with the gloss, why removing the gloss of the lipstick?

Thanks Lisa, this looks wonderful on you. I am very bad at identifying if this is a warm or cool colour, would you say it would work for someone with warm olive skin? x
