If so, could you give me a tip on how to do the 3rd mission, missing chao? I do that mystic melody stuff, but the trail of rings isnt long enough and i always end up falling, instead of ladding on the platform.
The mystic shrine actually causes two separate lines of rings to appear, but with a few seconds delay between them. It's dumb, but you'll have to watch for the second half of the line to appear, and hold off on the light dash until then.
In SA2B they agreed this was a dumb setup, and changed it to 9 rings leading out to an extra floating platform, instead of a line of 7 and a line of 8.
Probably...m1 has checkpoints that are removed in 4. The best you can do on checkpoint rewards while still being able to cash in all rings is a 10 from the first and a 20 from the second, so 510 DC or 502 GC.
When I touch the first checkpoint, I got 50 rings because I passed the checkpoint to get 40 rings, then went back to touch the checkpoint to get 10 extra rings. I have one question. Can you backtrack anywhere else in the stage?
For c1 you have to get rings then backtrack to earn +10. For c2 you have to do the reverse: skip rings then head back to get them after you earn the +20. c3-c2 doesn't seem possible, so you can't earn more than 10-20 bonuses without losing far too many rings to be worthwhile.
Yes--GC misses 1 ring in the 8 formation at 2:40, 1 ring in the 7 line at 4:00, and 6 rings in the 15 line at 4:38...though the out-of is only reduced by 6 there instead of 8, making it seemingly impossible to get the all-ring A.
If I wanted to play for speed, I could get down a completion with at least 2 minutes left rather easily. This is only for pure speed insofar as you have to run a very tight clip to visit every ring and still hit the goal on time.
Can you please tell me exactly what did you press when you went up that big ramp (03:00)? Because I can't go up there. I don't know if it is an emulator problem or what... Do you let go the controls when in a ball, keep pressing up, WHAT?
And id you don't do that, you will fall, start walking to the right and other weird stuff? Because, if I don't follow the guide you just wrote (haven't test it yet); I smash to the right and fall back to the ramp.
And before I forget: this video rocks! You're a great player.
I apreciate your help, but it seems that there is nothing to do... Stupid glitch. It must be because of the emulation speed... But luckly I just figured out a strategy to help me. Thanks anyway!!
"Hyper Shadow" Is a typo in the game's manual booklet that comes in its case, instead of "Super Shadow" it reads as Hyper Shadow. :) I love wikipedia.
The existence of a theoretical "Hyper Shadow" form is not out of the question, though not likely to ever see the light of day given the general storyline path for modern games. It hasn't been seen to date, not even in this game.
You are too awsome at this game.(is super sonic and hyper shadow really in two player cause i cant get 100 percent and i dont have action replay or gameshark.
Oh my God O_O That's amazing. I wouldn't have actually thought that possible!! I'd have been impressed if you'd have just got all the rings, never mind a time limit!! Must have taken you ages?!? Did you ever hit enemies hear the end, or like accidentally screw up the mystic melody bit or anything?? .. and just scream? :P
I don't recall ever losing to the last enemy. I do remember hitting electric barriers on the drum just before the last rings, and having runs where the time limit didn't give me the luxury of being able to take the rocket, and I had to make a long jump to the last drum, only to aim incorrectly with the camera and miss everything.
I think it has to do with the TV display program's recording function, trying to grab line-in incorrectly. It ends up flooding the sound channels so that much of the data is removed, and this video (along with the Final Rush no-score video) has that loss show a particularly damaging effect on the overall audio track. While playing/recording live, the sound plays correctly, but the audio blemishes are present even in the raw video file.
There's no multiball bonus stage or anything like in Spinball. If you get a predetermined amount of rings (it's supposed to be all the rings, though it can be less, allowing you to miss some, or more, making the quota impossible to fulfill) then you get an A rank regardless of score. This run satisfied the quota with 480/480 rings, and thus I got A despite missing the point cutoff by 240.
also, how would you feel if you lost all the rings or didn't make it within the time limit? because you had something around 3 seconds left! great work!
I've had runs where I lost 470 rings to the electric barrier, where the drum leads to the Chao. I've also had runs where time expired, or where I had to skip the last rocket and attempt to spindash jump to the last drum, only to miss completely. When one of these happens, I just start over and try again. Once I grabbed the pulley here, I knew I wasn't going to run out of time, and when I got the last set of rings, the run was secured.
The thing about A ranks is you only have to get them once. After that, you can go for other things on a complete save, completely ignoring rank. Of note is that if not for the game granting an A based on all rings, this run would have missed the point threshold by 240.
I'm trying to pinpoint the problem. The sound plays fine while I'm actually playing, but when I play back a recorded run, the higher frequencies get drowned out. IO believe that to be a problem with the sound channels somewhere getting overloaded, but I don't know what step in the chain is the bottleneck. Reducing the frequency, sample size, or number of channels in the TV recording software still gives the same problem, so I don't know what to do.
First, you'll need a TV tuner expansion card. You can get one at a place like Circuit City; it'll probably be kept near the graphics cards. Then you output your game's audio and video lines to the inputs on that card, and use whatever software is available to watch and record your gameplay.
lol the post says 45 seconds ago, just logged in :P does the dreamcast version go more easily then the gamecube one because 50% of the stuff you do im pretty sure is only for dc version :\
I'm not familiar with the structural changes to GameCube, but I don't think any of the paths I take are blocked off. I have heard that some rings were removed (notably the last light-dash chain to the Chao consists of fewer rings spaced further apart).
That 10 box is probably the most difficult set of rings to hit in the run. You don't really have a choice but to get close. Sometimes if you proceed with caution, inching closer, it takes 4 passes around the drum to get. Fortunately, this time I got it on the 2nd pass. Despite finishing with 2.33 seconds left, taking more than 2 passes around the drum wouldn't necessarily have made me run out of time, only make me take more shortcuts at the end.
This is from the Dreamcast version right?

if i read your comment right, then gives it in the GC version only 472 rings right?
ReneBalow 9 months ago
@ReneBalow Yes, GC is missing 1 ring at 2:40, 1 ring at 4:00, and 6 rings at 4:38.

Yep. Normally the score he got there would have given him a lower rank.

Light-dash the 6, hold B for a spindash guided by the boost plates, and release spindash and hold up as you go through the 24 to stay with it.
