Kelly is a great singer, maybe one of the best, and yet people prefer to speak off and to support Rebecca Black. Nothing against her, is just that doesn't seens fair with such great singer. Divas race is fading away. Pity.

no, they did that because on the studio version, Faith did a harmony part with herself. Kelly didn't. Faith couldn't sing two parts at once so they had the backup singer do the higher harmony.

I don't like most singers on the radio now days either. But the last album Whitney put out was a Christmas album, and voice was so watered down compared to the way she use to sing. Age didn't make her voice the way it is now. That's the crack. Singers like Faith Evans and Kelly Price have Whitney beat currently, no contest. Whitney's soprano range is gone, ability to hold notes is gone, and her voice just turns to raspy noise when she attempts an remotely high note.

omg i'm so sick everyone blaming this womans' vocal changes on old age. Yes Patti and Aretha and many other artist's vocals have changed. But they all still can hold a note and still have some of their range. Whitney now has neither. She admitted to being on drugs. We all know what that can do to our bodies. Yes she made a turn around and it's nice that she's recording again. But this new whitney is nothing like the Whitney of old. Age has little to do with it.
So then If what about Mariah Carey she hasn't done drugs and as she gets old her voie is no where near as good a her prime, and Aretha used to do drugs, so did Natalie Cole & Chaka Khan so what are you talking about, and if age has nothing to do with it then Michael Jordan would still be able to play ball, and Muhammad would still be able to sting like a bee, Michaels Voice changes as he got older, janet don't move the same, michael didn't either neither Madonna so I call that age, all legends
You are missing the point, and underestimating, whitney in december 2009, sounds much better then whitney sept 2009, thats progress, so her voice is showing improvement, but you blame drugs, there are so many celebs in the industry who do drugs, it has more to do with health, and age, because every singer has a prime no ones voice stays the same,(rare) . Whitney's voice is getting better, and it's gonna go back to how it was in the late 90's.
no, you're missing the point. Yes every singer's voice changes with age. All i'm saying is that it doesn't change to the extent of Whitney's. There is no way you go from a suprano to barely a tenor just with age. Usually people maintain some of their high range after age and natural causes have done their damage. Patti Labelle, Aretha, Chaka's voices have all changed but they can still hit relatively high notes and hold them.
Also, i know that some of those artists did drugs. It probably affected their voices to an extent as well. Perhaps their amount and length of time in drugs differs resulting in differing vocal damage. I don't exclude age and natural causes. I'm just saying there's no way there's that much vocal difference JUST due to age, or even mainly due to age.
Ok, well then why is her voice showing improvement, and I really think that you are underestimating her cause if you listen ti her latest live performances she sounds amazing. (Russia 9/12/)and she can still blow any of these new artist out the box, and ppl have been so negative with her, almost like they want her to continue the drug use, when they should praise because there are some people like elvi, mich j, or jimmy hendrix, even kirt who use drugs and dont recover,Acknowledge the positive.

Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, all of them sound fantastic. You can't compare Michael Jordan...basketball is a physical sport. If your vocals are kept in check you can sing until your seventies. Whitney's voice sounds great now and any deterioration is due to drug use not age.
Singing is physical as well and that was the point i was trying to make, and what about Mariah's voice which has shown no improvement, and Arethat who and Chaka who both somtimes sound horrible and Natalie cole has done drugs as well, so you really can't use that as an excuse, I think it more to do with age, and the amount of success and world tours that her and MC had to go on, that strains your voice, look at Christina's voice which her's is already going out on her, and she's still young.
Mariah Carey is a trained singer. Not a natural singer. She has a good voice but she has never been a good live performer. Here's the point, if Whitney had not taken drugs this discussion would not be happening.......because nothing about her voice would have changed. Barbra Streisand sung on Oprah a couple of weeks ago and her voice is just a silky smooth as when she began. Streisand is in her 60's and still sounds phenomenal.

I saw Barbra in concert about a year and half ago. And she hit every high note..every long note...and every other note in between. Her voice was like butta...Whitney's voice is god-given and she would have sounded great well into her seventies. I guarantee it.

You keep saying Whitney's the only successful model/singer/actress but Whitney hasn't modeled since the 80's,was never a supermodel and was in one huge film and her other's were just ok. Barbra IS a more respected actress and is considered one of the best voices in the world. In terms of legends they're equal, even though Barbra's done more work and Whitney outsold her in records

@DaxShaw the only reason Mariah has outsold Whitney is because she has way more Cd's, Whitney has 7 studio albums to MC's 13, and Celina has outsold them both and she has 10 studio albums but if you count the french versions as well she has overr 20, and Whitney has sold 170mill to MC's 175, and after this album they will be pretty close in sales, Not to mention becasue of Whitney's poor vocals the last tour ppl have been buying her old material! no, they did that because on the studio version, Faith did a harmony part with herself. Kelly didn't. Faith couldn't sing two parts at once so they had the backup singer do the higher harmony.

I don't like most singers on the radio now days either. But the last album Whitney put out was a Christmas album, and voice was so watered down compared to the way she use to sing. Age didn't make her voice the way it is now. That's the crack. Singers like Faith Evans and Kelly Price have Whitney beat currently, no contest. Whitney's soprano range is gone, ability to hold notes is gone, and her voice just turns to raspy noise when she attempts an remotely high note.

I know all the songs from her One Wish album aren't current. The ones that aren't are from The Preacher's Wife soundtrack, back in the days when she could hold a note. I love those songs. So don't call me a hater. I'm just one who won't settle for this new watered down version of what use to be a great voice. Obviously, you're just a die hard fan that just loves the name Whitney Houston instead of paying attention the actual ability that's clearly decreased.

No I know the bad days from the good, and a hater is someone who doesn't give credit when someone has done soemthing well, even if i may not like a person I will still give them their props, Ok well whitney in the 80's, early 90's. late 90's her voice has changed, as has aretha's, patti's, etc, you do grow older you look, and sound different with age, but I know one thing Whitney can still blow 95% of these singers out 2day out the box which most of them aren't singer they are eneertainers.

But they all still can hold a note and still have some of their range. Whitney now has neither. She admitted to being on drugs. We all know what that can do to our bodies. You are missing the point, and underestimating, whitney in december 2009, sounds much better then whitney sept 2009, thats progress, so her voice is showing improvement, but you blame drugs, there are so many celebs in the industry who do drugs, it has more to do with health, and age, because every singer has a prime no ones voice stays the same,(rare) . Whitney's voice is getting better, and it's gonna go back to how it was in the late 90's.

no, you're missing the point. Yes every singer's voice changes with age. All i'm saying is that it doesn't change to the extent of Whitney's. There is no way you go from a suprano to barely a tenor just with age. Usually people maintain some of their high range after age and natural causes have done their damage. Patti Labelle, Aretha, Chaka's voices have all changed but they can still hit relatively high notes and hold them.

Also, i know that some of those artists did drugs. It probably affected their voices to an extent as well. Perhaps their amount and length of time in drugs differs resulting in differing vocal damage. I don't exclude age and natural causes. I'm just saying there's no way there's that much vocal difference JUST due to age, or even mainly due to age.

Ok, well then why is her voice showing improvement, and I really think that you are underestimating her cause if you listen ti her latest live performances she sounds amazing. Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, all of them sound fantastic. You can't compare Michael Jordan...basketball is a physical sport. If your vocals are kept in check you can sing until your seventies. Whitney's voice sounds great now and any deterioration is due to drug use not age.

Singing is physical as well and that was the point i was trying to make, and what about Mariah's voice which has shown no improvement, and Arethat who and Chaka who both somtimes sound horrible and Natalie cole has done drugs as well, so you really can't use that as an excuse, I think it more to do with age, and the amount of success and world tours that her and MC had to go on, that strains your voice, look at Christina's voice which her's is already going out on her, and she's still young.

Mariah Carey is a trained singer. Not a natural singer. She has a good voice but she has never been a good live performer. Here's the point, if Whitney had not taken drugs this discussion would not be happening.......because nothing about her voice would have changed. Barbra Streisand sung on Oprah a couple of weeks ago and her voice is just a silky smooth as when she began. Streisand is in her 60's and still sounds phenomenal.

Yeah i saw that performance and was disappointed because barbara just sounds good now, when i watch younger performances of her her high registry was better, and Whitney's voice would have changed regardless, it changed froms the 80's to 90's, and her mother cissy never did drugs and as she got older her voice got deeper, jus tlike dionnes, so Whit's voice was going to change regardless, of drugs or not and you dont know what she would sound like.. i know one thing her voice keeps getting better

I saw Barbra in concert about a year and half ago. And she hit every high note..every long note...and every other note in between. Her voice was like butta...Whitney's voice is god-given and she would have sounded great well into her seventies. I guarantee it.

I agree. Age has nothing to do with it. Whitney is only 46. Drug addiction caused the damage to Whitney's voice. I still love her voice and I hope that it continues to get better. This last CD was good and I hope more from Whitney.
