istanbul (or constantinopole) was built by a ROMAN emperor on the ruins of an ancient greek city, vyzantio, and was part of the roman and later-on byzantin empire. that doesnt make it greek (or else marseille, sicily and other meditteranean cities would be considered as well greek)

greeks are attached to constantinopole because of the language spoken and religion back then ! the only part of turkey that was greek originally were some ancient cities like ephesos, militos, pergamos etc
