PTL / Heritage USA: 22 Years Later- 6/26/09- Vid #11

Didn't Jerry Falwell have a lot to do with it's demise. I was under the impression it still could have been a profitable entity (secular or not) but he just walked away (mainly). He was also instrmental in the whole dismatling of PTL and stabbing the Jim and Tammy (justifiable or not) in the back under the guise of concern and friendship.

@SeanMBryans- Falwell was deeply envious of Jim & Tammy and their PTL network. Certainly J&T had their faults, as we all do, but it was under Falwells' watch that PTL completely fell apart.

Back in the 80's my family and I would visit Heritage USA almost every weekend. We lived about 10 miles away. I was a youth leader in my church and we would bring the kids there all the time. There was lots for them to do. Swiming, skating, riding the tram around the park. And the Christmas lights were so beautiful. It hurts to see the park like this now. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed is the name of the Lord.

I agree that the outdoor drama amphitheater is pretty much doomed.

I watched your 1988 video and you could see how it looked as it was under Jim and Tammy. The whole outdoor drama ampitheatre complex to me was made to look like a New Testament era structure.

How many people sat there in the 80s and watched Passion Plays?

I wanted to add photos of the outdoor ampitheatre in my new video but I was pushing it at 10:11 and ran out of time.

Funny thing is this is where I started when I found your site, but working my way back to this video, IT REALLY IS JUST EVIL,Jim Bakker went to prison, and has still managed to regain some idenity.Foulwell is gone after this destruction. The Coulsons I thin is theri name could try to go outside og the HDH and preserve more than I am seeing done.

Soon it will just be residents- no more original beauty !

You have made Tammy Faye so happy. Those people suffered , just being lie after lie, I always admired them for STAYING OUT THEIR, AND BASICLY SURVIVING, Knowing their whole life was gone overnight- I feel sad that no one has seen Tammy Sue at all after her Mom left us.

BUT THIS IS A TRIBUTE , AND THE BEST IVE SEEN.

To my knowledge, this is the only video available on the internet of Tammy Sue singing. Indeed, their entire world collapsed beneath them & not JUST them, but their friends, extended family, employees at Heritage USA, plus all the people who visited or were Lifetime Partners at Heritage. Millions of people were affected to some degree.

Falwell said that Jim Bakker was the worst cancer on the face of Christianity. Honestly, Falwell himself was the worst thing to happen to modern evangelism.

So, I have little good to say about Jerry Falwell. OK, so he did start up a college to help people attain a higher education.

I'm never happy to hear that someone has died, and I was not overly joyous to hear when Falwell had died in 2007.

Yet I cannot help but wonder if God regularly chastises Falwell up in heaven for being such a fool, and being so hateful, vengeful, destructive, closed-minded and turning so many people away from the church for his unaccepting, hateful tones & speeches.

@CincinnatiGifts Last time I checked, "Gluttony" was on the list of "The Seven Deadly sins". Guess ol' Fatwell got a pass on that?? I hope Heaven is a big place; and if Fatwell IS up there, (which I doubt; not saying he's in the Christian's idea of "hell" either) then I wanna' be on the other end of town!!

Jim Bakker would have never allowed this looking so desolate, dry and weedy. I still love the videos.

Indeed, Falwell was more responsible than anything Jim & Tammy could have done to result in the failure of PTL.

He lacked charisma, management skills, had no vision, no ability to raise funds. He claimed that PTL's books were in such a dismal state, well, on Fawell's watch, PTL collapsed entirely, and slipped in to bankruptcy. That speaks volumes about his ability to manage something as massive as Heritage USA.

I think he really was trying to take over PTL for himself. He was so pathetic.

SO SO TRUE....I agree, I just found you, and your footwork is beyond amazing. What get's me is MORNINGSTAR is being praised for the work they are doing, yet I think it is all in the Grand Hotel- I started here in the video section, and am now exited and have located video 1, where you are in the car and at the outer area of the Tower, if MS has not done anymore than this, my guess it The Charlotte timelin to re-do or tear down will go in effect. , THIS IS SO FUN

I find it so disgusting that Falwell would so often & so blantantly make denigrating and hate speeches towards gays & lesbians, abortionists and feminists. He even implied that all those classes "helped this happen", referring to 9/11.

Falwell was so off base and out of touch on so many issues. I can't say that I hated the man, but I strongly disagreed with much that he did & said all while giving the appearance of being a devout Christian, whom I thought were to love & accept one another.

Jim & Tammy Bakker, on the other hand accepted everyone at face value. Tammy sang and ministered to convicts in PRISON for God's sake! PTL did so much good in so many countries around the world, not to mention here in the US.

At Heritage USA, there were facilities that helped unwed mothers get back on their feet. There was a facility that helped homeless, jobless men get a fresh start.

Falwell came along & ignored all the good that Jim & Tammy had done &really ruined PTL until it folded.

There has not been a Tram available for 22 years.

I am glad you are documenting all of this on video as it will all be gone one day.

Indeed. Heritage USA was like the Land That Time Forgot for 15 years.

It will likely all be gone VERY soon. There is no need or desire for a campground practically next door to upscale housing tracts. No desire for an eyesore like the remains of the ampitheatre next door to the same new houses. The Upper Room- no one has the time or money to renovate it, and, even if they did, it would be so out of place surrounded by housing tracts.

Be sure to see all of my videos. I had so many of them, not just from 2009, but also 1988. YouTube has a 10-minute length of videos uploaded, so that's why I had to limit all of mine, and upload many different ones.

Just recently, I happened to find a video of Tammy Faye singing a duet with Tammy Sue, recorded during the last New Years Eve party PTL ever held, on Dec 31, 1986.

The events that led to the complete loss of PTL began literally days after that video was aired on live TV.
