yes it s true...US soldiers in Vietnam used to play rock full blast because they thought it would drive the vietcongs minds crazy...ray manzarek of the doors was a helicopter pilot in Nam(for a few months) and he said that in an interview.
It was so long ago in the sixties but, our band, The Noblemenn always opened with this song after we learned it! So exciting. Hearing it brings back so many memories. We played it for the troops during the 1967 riots at many high schools where they were staying and at the Michigan State Fair grounds.
some huey crews used this sound on speciality mounted speakers when mounting a mission in the Nam bush...would like to think it screwed with the congs' minds.
@dogleg97 During the 91 Campaign in Desert Storm OUR Navy Gun Boats would come up on Iraqi and Iranian Gun boats playing Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper". Damn I miss that. Those SOBs got the hell out of Dodge quick. I had to wear ear plugs and headsets to keep from blowing out my eardrums.
Indeed that Hammond does sound wicked with the Leslies screaming for dear life! First time I heard it I was blown away. I was convinced it was an America R&B band with somebody like Wilson Picket singing. Great number! The seldom come like that anymore. So fresh and spontaneous.
They are still playing gigs. I saw them last year in Germany and they were exactly as good as you would like a group to be after 44 years of practice. I don't know words good enough to describe the performance.
Absolutely the best version ever of this great tune. We'd never heard an organ (a B3 at that!) sound so wicked. Nor a kid sound so great. A cool tune... a classic that will never get old. Thank you so much for posting... I've not heard this version for decades.
@cloudjia Yeah I love the organ in this! They seemed to use it alot in the 60's....This song always makes me think of the classic cars of this time! Chevy, Mopar, Fords..wooohoo! and my 72 Cutlass and 68 Pontiac..
Hey! My head's a-spinning, and I'm floating to sound Too much is happening 'cause you're not around It's been a hard day, and nothing went too good I'm gonna relax like everybody should Hey! I feel so good everything is gettin' higher You better take some time out 'cause this place is on fire Better stop baby 'cause I have so much to do We made it, baby and it happend to you
@eldemasiado Agreed, B3 had such a coarse tone when played by someone who knew the range and versatility of the thing. Gives me goosebumps still after all these years. I'll be 60 end of this year and when I hear this song it shoots me back to high school in an instant. Good to know there are still people around who appreciate this.

Featured here is the original UK single mix on Fontana without the cowbell, handclaps and background vocals prevalent on the American United Artists single.
@SeanElGatoTelevision i think you are thinking about I'm a Man that has all the percussion at the beginning, but this version of Gimme Some Lovin is slightly different from the album version.
Great song ! However, it's not the originally released recording because this version doesn't have the backup vocals in the background.
