yes it s true...US soldiers in Vietnam used to play rock full blast because they thought it would drive the vietcongs minds crazy...ray manzarek of the doors was a helicopter pilot in Nam(for a few months) and he said that in an interview.

It was so long ago in the sixties but, our band, The Noblemenn always opened with this song after we learned it! So exciting. Hearing it brings back so many memories. We played it for the troops during the 1967 riots at many high schools where they were staying and at the Michigan State Fair grounds.

Indeed that Hammond does sound wicked with the Leslies screaming for dear life! First time I heard it I was blown away. I was convinced it was an America R&B band with somebody like Wilson Picket singing. Great number! The seldom come like that anymore. So fresh and spontaneous.
