  • @nov666 @alexinsc2008 Wait.. you can't just replace the whole drive, if you do then you need also to replace the original circuit board, because the drive has a unique code like every ps3 has one and they need to match, if not then you cant load any games... and depending on your drive model (one lens), it could still be your broken/burned lens that makes the discs not load, but it could also be something else of course....

  • tried it.. but still not working...

  • @nov666 is your ps3 playing anything? this only works half the time and usually a few days to a week later it will fail again, you need to replace the entire lens. if your ps3 plays no discs at all, you need a whole new blu ray drive.

  • @alexinsc2008 it's not playing any disc at all... so, i have to replace the whole thing? not just the lens? :(

  • @nov666 Usually if it plays nothing than the entire bluray drive needs to be replaced. Replacing the entire drive only runs 20-30$ more than replacing the lens. Just make sure you get the correct drive your system needs.

  • where did u buy the liquid for the lens, i tried clean with alcohol and doesn't work.

  • wait a minute would it be better to use a lint cloth? Not like a regular lint cloth but a lint cloth that is the size of a cutip (cotton bud)? Because would the cutip scratch the lens? Even though your using the formula liquid but would it still be best?

  • I used water and my discs barely spin help?

  • @Randominize you just use glasses cleaner to clean them

  • @MrKiing16 i got clean spray for my oakleys would that work on this?

  • @giantpistol1 yea that should work

  • and its a cd drive guys not an HDD, an HDD is your hard disk drive (hard drive)

  • do you guys know what an HDD is?? it has nothing to do with your output ports.. great vid tho helped me alot ty

  • does anyone know if you have had a PS3 for long time now and used it alot and have never cleaned the lens could that be a reaosn for expriencing slower game play? or is that irrelevant to the lens? thanks

  • @MrSF0011 I've had mine for 4+ years....every game still plays just fine....my issues is some Blu-ray movies will not play....as for the slower game play....your HDD might the issue...my games started taking longer to load some times freeze...which can seem like your lens is starting go out....but then one day the PS3 completely froze....hard shut down(switch in the back)....tried to start it up again....all I got was a nice looking sony back ground with a message cannot find HDD.

  • @mrbobdog707 well for some reasone the HDD stopped working on mine as well, donno if tis the cable, the TV HDD port or the PS3 HDD port so now im using S-Video now, so you reckon thats could explain slower game play specially for live?

  • @MrSF0011 A couple of weeks before the "crash" of the HDD..I noticed a lot of slower on line game play with MOH....load times seemed longer....I just chalked it up to bad connections....but after it failed..I started to think about all the other symptoms that might of been there...and that I ahd not backed anything up....never do that one again.

  • Hi guys, I really hope someone out there will reply to me so here goes. My PS3 loads my PS3 games perfectly but after a short while it STOPS reading the disk which then causes freezing, no audio in game etc. Do I really need to open my PS3 to clean the lens for it to maybe fix this issue? I have literally done EVERYTHING you could possibly do such as the "recovery menu", format hard drive etc. I'm sure my issue isn't as bad as others having it not read the disks at all so what should I do?Thanks

  • @TopmanSte replace the drive

  • @TopmanSte your situation sounds EXACTLY like mine... im also wondering if i should just go to town and replace the lens with new ones or what =S

  • Where do I buy liquid lens cleaner

  • @Jaliya48 hey my slim now makes a grinding noise and wont accept disc because of a little white plastic peice blocking what can i do?

  • @bodman4004,

Hold down the "EJECT" until you here it start to move. That will reset your dvd drive on there.

  • your lighting is aweful pa, what did you light it with a desk lamp? and the jump cuts are a little amateur, what did you edit this with imovie? you need some pro video skills if you want anyone to take you seriously

  • @schmitty109 shut the fuck up

  • What is UP with all the lame music in the tutorial videos ?

  • instead of taking it apart will a blu ray lens cleaner work?

  • plz someone reply: my ps3 makes a white line if you have it to i know im not the only one

  • Do you have to use ONLY lens cleaning liquid? Can you use something else supportive? Please respond . . .QUICKLY!! I don't have much time!!!

  • @XxMEGAMAN15xX try isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol in the US)

  • @Jaliya48 well i tried that and i put it back together but now my cd's wont go in the system WTF! well i guess i have no choice but to send it in for maintanence.

  • Thanks for the tutorial unfortunately the laser is broken on my ps3 so cleaning it did not help but now i know for sure and now i know how to take the drive apart to replace the laser

  • Hi man, one question about the liquid you used to clean the lense ... is that a contact lense cleaner liquid ... ? i mean can i use a contact lense cleaner liquid to clean the bluray lense or what ? :D

  • @ batnear4

Are u retarted wat Are Youu Sayinqq

  • If you dont know where to get blueray lens cleaner, or your just too lazy to get some, just use contact lens solution with a Q tip and wipe gently. My Ps3 stopped playing Ps3 games about 6 months ago, so i tore it down fixed and cleaned it, and it works like new

  • Probably one of the worst tutorials out there.

They skip the parts that aren't obvious and show you the stuff you could figure out for yourself. They boom dumb music instead of information. This is just crap meant to get ad impressions, though I doubt they made more than a dollar.

  • @DTownzz yeah the freaking blu-ray drive magically came out of the maschine all on its own

  • @shomazta

It's very easy to do, but this is not much help for folks who need a little guidance.

  • @DTownzz yeah I took one apart over a year ago without getting on youtube, but now I have a slim and was trying to figure out how to get to the lens safely... ended up just breathing on my black ops disk and rubbing off the finger prints with my shirt lol, did the trick for now :/

  • i only needed this to take out a disk that got stuck :p

  • This song hurts my ears

  • Comment removed

  • how do i know if its the dust on the lens or the blu-ray is burned?

  • its stupid and every time you do it 2 hair wires on the motherboard brakes off and can never be fixed, now my playstation is stuffed and can never use it agen cos of your stupid video

  • @devon999999

If you know about the wires that are fragile, you can avoid breaking them. A good tutorial explains all that in detail.

  • my ps3 games started back playin after i cleaned the lens off but now my games just freeze while im playing what could this be? i tried wiping off the game but they freeze

  • it didn't work :(

  • I figured it out I'll post a vid this weekend

  • i opened my ps3 and blu ray drive and cleaned the lens but now after hooking up the ribbon cable and power cable it will not read disk period it accepts disc into the tray the light blinks like normal but now when the disc is fully in the console the blue light turns off and does not even reconize that there is a disc in there i can still eject it and get my disc back but thats it thats all it does any advise or did i forget somthing? i have the last sold 80gb Fat b4 the started selling slims

  • @psnjuggalo420killa i have yhe same problem and the same ps3 :(

  • @psnjuggalo420killa

You most probably have a dead laser, you'll need a new one.

  • cant you get 1M or M1 radiation from opening the bluray laser?

  • how about if u use alcohol? wouldnt it get damaged

  • my ps3 wont read disks it just keeps showing reading disk forevor and will this guide fix it

  • Cleaning didn't work for me. At least now I know how to take it apart and put it back together and can install another player after I get one. Mine was a 2008 and there were a few differences in taking it apart, for instance my circuit board was not visible - I had a top and bottom cover that completely covered the Blu-ray.

  • @IndyMotorSpeedway

remember replacing the blue ray drive is not as simple as simply plugging the ribbon cable and the other cable into a new drive that does work. You actually have to swap the mother boards. That consists of 5 screws and 4 additional cables, fairly easy, but look up blue ray drive swap.

  • Is this the same with a ps3 slim and whats the lens cleaner called

  • hi, best to use normal all in one lens cleaner used for contact lenses and wipe with cotton bud, Is this blue ray/dvd drive shown on this vid from a ps3 slim or normal ps3, or are they the same anyway? thanks

  • Well, after an entire afternoon of dicking with my PS3 (and MGS4 REFUSING to install (that disc read error would constantly pop up)), I popped open the drive, put some Windex (brand name, not that generic crap) on a Q-Tip, and gently swabbed the lens. Yes, lenses are easily scratched, but they're still glass, and glass still has some strength. Don't push super hard, but just lightly stroke the Q-Tip around the lens, preferrably in one direction. Now, MGS4 installing w/no problems so far!

  • Thanks for the tip on using lens cleaner instead of alcohol. worked like a charm. just fixed my ol' 60gb about 2 hours ago, took it apart, cleaned it with all purpose lens cleaner, put it back together. simple as that.

  • 1. What is that "lens cleaner liquid"?

    2. Is cotton okay to use in contact with the lens? Would a microfiber cloth be better?

  • Why do the helpful tech videos always have to have ridiculously loud music?

  • what happends if you dont put thos little metal tongs on the outside

  • @oddy128 It opens a crack in the universe.

  • where can I buy a screwdriver like that ?

  • @jockerboofer the store.

  • My ps3 won't read any of my blu-ray dics, but it can play DVD and cd. I bought the maxell blu-ray lens cleaner dics hoping to resolve this problem, but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

  • I can't insert game to my ps3

If i clean the blue-ray drive, like the video

    It will work?

  • I don't know what you people did that are claiming that rubbing alcohol killed your laser. I've always used isopropyl rubbing alcohol 70% at least on consoles that came from a smoking environment. But for systems that come from non-smoking homes I use camera lens cleaner.

  • i didnt use this to clean my lens. i actually used it to get my Black ops out. Since its been Stuck in there for last 2 months. So i did this and the disc came right out.

  • wanted to say thanks for the tutorial. I was unsure of how much pressure i could use on the blu ray lense and after trying twice i almost gave up. I saw this tutorial and used a bit more pressure and BOOM it worked! Thanks again

  • Yeah, don't say Alcohol man. Use Lens Solution for contacts ($3), not Cleaner (Bausch & Lomb is good)

Sympton spinning symbol, clicking noises and eventually 80010514.

Cause: sometimes cleaned my discs with sleeve instead of 3M micro fiber. a piece of lint stuck on the diode.

Remedy: i did 2 star swabs instead circular& dry circular.start in center and go out, repeat.

look at the diode closely (magnified or mirrored) you see what is disrupting the lens. only blow away dust.

  • If you use alcohol make sure it is the high percentage Isopropyl used for disinfecting injection sites, not the 70% labeled "rubbing" alcohol . I've never had a a problem with 91% on electronics, but I hear there is also 99%- Don't know which is better for blu-ray but the 91% has always done for the DVD lenses.

  • can anyone help, my ps3 will read discs when it is lay down but when i stand it up it does not work, can anyone help, i have cleaned the laser so i know it aint that and it tries to read the disc but nothing happens

  • OMG PS4 watch?v=YMbmbSMOW_I

  • A big THANK YOU for this tutorial video. I was facing a 80010514 error on a irregular basis but with several game discs. So i was almost sure it is caused by a dirty lense.

My first attempt was without any liquid because i was afraid to damage the lense. Didn`t work!

I used then a soft liquid without any agressive ingredients, my blue-ray drive works perfect now.

    I can recommend it!

  • Awesome stuff! just cleaned my slim laser with a lens fluid swab, dry end & closed Her back up. reads my games again, now just gotta do it on my 60 launch model. all the best teknoconsoles!

  • I thought my Panasonic BD35 was dead and I was ready to buy a new player. Even brand new blu-rays wouldn't play. Then I spent $15 on a Maxell blu-ray cleaner. It made no difference. As a last resort, I opened up the bastard and soaked a cotton swab with 99% isopropyl alcohol, then lightly swabbed and dried it like in the video. Sonofabitch, it actually worked. Try less invasive methods first, then follow this vid. Rubbing alcohol worked just fine for me.

  • SCREW THE SCREWS WITH SCREWDRIVER AND SCREW WOMEN WITH YOUR PENIS

  • Thank you so much, thought my BD drive was F*****' bud after a cleaner it worked with the first Bd.... thx for the great guide

  • Didnt work for me

  • ummm how the fuk do you remove the blue ray drive from the ps3 in the first place?, lol

  • @feministdestroyer Take off the top side (Waranty void sticker needs to be removed, then take out the one screw. gently take off the cap and you get to see a bunch more screws embedded in the plastic. Those needed to be removed are marked with an arrow in the plastic. Don't jerk it off, but flip it over carefully. You'll see a cable. Don't jerk it out, flip the black lid over and the cable's loose. The same goes for the drive. Be very carefull!)

  • @feministdestroyer That is mentioned at the beginning of this video. There are plenty of tutorials on it though.

  • how about ƒréé xbox points & ps3 cards and controllers + consoles and games hurry up and goto google and search for GA Rewards it will be on the top of the results because_it's_100%_LEGIT!

  • this just worked for me. Took me an hour and a half but I'm back good. My PS3 could read DVDs but not my ps3 games. Cleaned the lens and BAM back online. Good shit!

  • Big thanks to you for this turtorial!!!

It helped me very much ;-)

Und F**k of guys, after cleaning the lens i can play all my games and she listens like a kitty :D

  • To everyone: the fact that it doesn't read the disks after you cleaned it doesn't mean it didn't work. It either means

    1) you suck at cleaning

    2) the lens are ok, but the rest (or something else) of the drive isn't

  • I opened it to clean my bluray lense... didn't work and now my system run hot and close! help plz... when I connect it without the top case the fan turns for a second then nothing! untill it gets too hot and shutdown

  • didn't work for me... i opened it and cleaned like in the video and it still not reading bluray disk

  • What kind of lens cleaner liquid? And where can i purchase it?

  • My ps3 doesn't read disk should I buy another blue ray driver lens or should I only open up my PS3, and clean it? But if i clean it will that be it because, if I clean it, and it didn't work, that would be a waste of time. Can any one tell me, if cleaning the lens will be it because i already bought blue ray cleaning disk and didn't work.

  • @X9Intelectual I have the same question. Did you find out bud?

  • @emmanuelsurf The only way get your ps3 reading disk OK, is to do what, you see in this video.

  • rubbing alcohol is fine as long as its a 50% solution. Plus it depends if the lens is made of glass or plastic. I am not sure but I have been told that the 80gb and above uses plastic lens so don't use alcohol on those!

  • mine has 2 lenses one is blue which do i clean

  • ive never been more thankful for a mute button

  • Overkill - You don't have to remove the main board, it's connectors or top part of the black case to access the lens! The upper metal case will come off without the main board removed and If you take off the white wheel, you can access the lens from there.

  • @TapionCynical i did evreything to but now

when i put the dis inside it makes a loud noise and now the disc is stuck inside

  • ok i opedn it all and everything now how do we now if it works or not

or if we have to get a new lens?

  • Should smoke come out of the drive after cleaning? there was lots of smake and now the PS3 wont even turn on, I used some of my dad's whisky to clean the lense, it worked ok for about 10 mins but quite a bit of smoke can anyone help?

  • Comment removed

  • fuck you, your assembly is missing.....I broke my ps3 cause of you....fuck you

  • why do you have to remove the motherboard if you're just cleaning the laser?

  • do all blu-ray drives come with a penny inside? think i found my problem...

  • Can you clean the PS3 Blu-Ray lens with Rubbing Alcohol?

  • @Riddler95 hell no i would either try windex or contact lens cleaner before using alcohol.bro

  • Thanks.

  • do the rails were the lens assembly slide require lubrication ? any answer greatly appreciated thanks

  • or u can fuck doin that and spend £3 on a blueray lens cleaner disc ;)

  • @XxQuiiCkScoPeRxX

... and ruin your laser for sure?!

  • @XxQuiiCkScoPeRxX

lol where u get it ? and btw does it work better than cleaning by yourself ? thank you

  • @XxQuiiCkScoPeRxX where can I buy that disc? Could i get it at bestbuy?

  • @XxQuiiCkScoPeRxX Does it work actually work using the Cleaner Disc?

  • @XxQuiiCkScoPeRxX DOnt be a pussy if you buy a cleaner disc like this dushbag you better get the right one i got one instead of cleaning it ruined my old old ps3 go figure

  • @XxQuiiCkScoPeRxX yea but 1 thing...they scratch the fuck out of your lens....this is the best way to do it if your not a dumbass and know what your doing

  • MY PS3 WONT PLAY NO DISCS BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS FINE .... WILL THIS PROCEDURE WORK ??

  • @blockboyz6 i have that excact problem

  • damnit. whoever said it works with rubbing alcohol.. SCREW U! it doesnt work. in fact before i cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, my dvds and ps2 games worked. now its fuked. i just hope that through my mistake no else will try to clean the lens with rubbing alcohol

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 hmm.....yeah i think you could just use something other than rubbing alcohol. Maybe u used too much or some shit

  • hey buddy make sure you got the cables in right my buddy tryed it and failed he even broke the black clip the locks the cable in so hes s.o.l for now im just trying to help sorry if i offended you but i like to help iv done this with ps3's 50 times never fails good luck buddy

  • @XzXManTIsXzX thx man and i dont have a reason to be offended. i made sure that the cables were in right. i figured out it wasnt just the lens, but the whole laser was done. ive kept the same ps3 since 2006 so it was bound to happen. i had to replace it for a new laser and its been working ever since. yet i still dont think the rubbing alcohol is a good idea lol id recommend a bluray lens cleaner. but hey i appreciate u trying to help

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 No, you have to use isopropyl alcohol. I use that for work to clean the lens of a $1.5m camera lens, so I would consider myself an expert on the subject.

  • @austinka83 hey thats great it worked for ya but i dont have to be an expert to tell the difference between a camera lens and a blu ray lens. and i did use 70% isopropyl alcohol and it just didnt work for me.

  • @austinka83 is 91% Isopropyl ok or does it have to be 99%? ( I haven't seen 99% here but usually use the 91% on my dvd lenses, but never had blu-ray before the PS3 )

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 Problem: lots of others have done this and it worked, so, its your fault.

  • @plutonicmind9 others have tried cleaning it with different things and failed. and im not blaming other ppl. Problem: u jump to conclusions u dumbass

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 It wasn't jumping. You said that whoever said to use rubbing alcohol should screw themselves. I said that it worked for most people, hence its not the guy's that said it fault, it's yours.

Yes you are blaming other people...quote from you "whoever said it works with rubbing alcohol, screw u!"

If that isn't blaming other people, what is it then?

Other have tried with different things? Ok, but that isn't what you were talking about in your original comment.

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 I've done this probably 900 times to my original 2001 PS2 and it still works fine. Apparently you were either too rough on the lens or you got your cotton swab too wet and short circuited.

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 same thing here. i tried nail polish remover like an idiot and messed up my dvd drive. CONFIRMED: DONT USE ALCOHOL ON YOUR LENS.

  • @israelgaribaldi actually nail polish remover has acetone in it and acetone can solvate almost all polishes and a lot of plastic sorts. You never should work with acetone in a plastic environment. Regarding alcohol (ethanol) I wouldn't work with it either, just to be sure. Buy lens cleaner or a cleaning disc as mentioned.

Oh yes! And happy gaming XD!

  • @SpeeDemon2K9 as a rule of thumb, never ever use rubbing alcohol on optics of any kind, it degrades optical coatings and may damage the lens material itself. I learned this the hard way after I destroyed the lenses on a $300 pair of sunglasses and then decided to do some reading on the subject.

  • The hands are retarded

  • CAN YOU USE EYE LENSE CLEANER, I REALLY NEED 2 KNOW!!

  • Why did we have to take the motherboard off??? Mine still won't play blurays but has no problem with dvds and cds. Is there a fix?

  • @theefficacious1 with the kem 400aaa you have to remove the motherboard to replace the laser

  • Why did we have to take the motherboard off???

  • Comment removed

  • my ps3 plays dvd's and cd's but not blu rays...will this even work? because it still plays dvd and cd? i have tried everything other than replacing the lenz or cleaning it.

or should i buy the maxwell lens cleaner, $20?

  • is this correcting the problem 80010514???

  • Cant u just buy a cleaning disc

  • Is that thing at 1:50 the optical sensor? Because mine broke but it still takes in discs, just needs a little push.

  • My p3 works everything jus won't read no disc hopefully this works

  • Will doing this help it read the disc ?

  • Will doing this help if the disc isn't reading

  • My PS3 can read discs but it gets stuck on loading screens, the game hasnt froze or anything as it loops the loading screen, I can also access the PS3 Menu...

Is this the right way to solve the problem? I want to make sure before aking it all apart and voiding the warranty.... some help will be very much appreciated!

  • @ewuuzjax same problem i have been having, did you ever find a solution?

  • @MondayHopscotch nope, not yet but my warranty is over now so ill take it apart and clean it when i have the time. ill inform you if it works or not after :)

  • Excellent help......

  • i'm about to get started on cleaning my ps3 blu-ray lens but would like to know whats best fluid to use. can you use all in one contact lens cleaner or the fluid that comes with dvd disks cleaners.

  • my ps3 wont play blu ray movies, that is even if it will read them.

and it will freeze after a minute or two of playing a ps3 game. if i do this, would it fix my problem?

  • @scottish8x i have the exact same problem man it will play for 2 or so minutes then it will either freeze or say the disc is invalid

  • @jfezz04 thats the same with mine im buying a new one

  • so if my ps3 won't read the disc, after I do this it should be fine?

  • @WatchJohnClickHere It depends on what happened.like to my ps3 it wont read any disk at all..and i restored it and cleaned the lens.and it still didnt work so then i bought a new blu-ray mechanism and replaced it with the old one and it works fine.
