Engine now mounted lower in the chassis, front and rear overhangs are shorter (for quicker direction changes - important for rallying), longer wheelbase, even wider fender flares compared to the previous sedan model, new multilink IRS, more Horsepower, Variable Valve Timing on BOTH intake and exhaust sides (Dual AVCS = better tuning potential), as well as the potential to have 3 different "custom" selectable maps via Si Drive... This is the BETTER WRX STi whether you like the looks or not.

The Evo X is only available as an automatic. The automatic is faster by like half a second, but I prefer to shift myself.

As far as I heard its only available in the hatchback. I saw it at the state fair of Texas and the Reps even said only the hatch will be available. I wish they would have given a choice on sedan though.

I'm not going to lie though, I'm an Evo IX owner (MR tarmac black) so, if there is ever a biased opinion, the stereotype suggest that I'm at the top of the chain, but..This does what the Evolution did not- blends upscale features, with improved performance across all margins, what Mitsubishi forgot was this, to most, it only has to LOOK more upscale, it doesnt have to BE that way. Please, before you respond, think about it.

I bought the Mitsu last year (IX) and um, the tables appear to be turning in favor of Subaru, at least performance wise, personal opinion, they both (EVO and STI) cosmetically are not as well executed as they should have been, the evo looks heavy, the sti looks tamed. But at least the STI improved performance (drastically) 100lbs lighter, 20hp more, reworked center diff, on paper, its a true slugger to mitsu-

The EVO X doesnt even drive as aggresive as the IX, and it isnt a drastic improvement in perfromance either, with its 300 more pounds, 300hp aluminum block (vs. 289(IX)wow.), and so-so (by comparison) steering feel. The STI however, 100lbs LIGHTER, 20hp MORE, and hatchback configuration that is sure to garuntee a tighter turn radius and sharper handling characteristics (to finally end the quams about the STI understeer on limit issue).

Oh, and it uses the same boxer engine, just tweeked a little (aftermarket). Subaru thought about this, in a way that Mitsubishi did not- they managed to match the upscale manner of Mitsubishi, but, without the penalty of loosing performance, and were Mitsu failed; without loosing focus on what the machines essence really is. Think about it, I own an Evolution IX MR the pinnacle of all things Evolution, hell its black, the best one, and I'm saying this-

I have to say this, bring back the EVO, 4g63 and all. this new car is miserable. it is sadning, the same way the e30 to e36 m3 transitioned, is the same the evolution did, only 10 fold. Lets hope they bounce back with the XI and a firm sort out from Subaru. Drop 200lbs (we know it can) make it appear less heavier as well, loose the 411B, suffer the cost for wasted development on new (pointless) technologies, and evolve the CT9A chassis in the way they should have. I'm done, for now.

Having an '07 Sti I agree. At one point and time I would say I like the Evo over the Subaru but with this new Sti, even the redesigned Evo looks better. And to onoitsaWRX who posted before, you are right people do like hatchbacks...the same people who buy station wagons when they turn 40..... ;-)
