I love how well they deal with continuity in Home Movies. They kept going with tiny details like Black Hole Brew and that cow tattoo. XD And the marbles in the nose thing, lol. I always loved this show, used to watch it when I was 5; and seeing it now is so nostalgic, I love it. And to get to see all the episodes I never got to see, that's amazing too. And it's so oddly inspirational -- TL;DR, Home Movies will always be an amazing series.

I think the creator/writer of these cartoons is smart, provocotive and has a teasing sardonic sense of humor. With so much talk of family in this episode, I do wonder why Brendon's father makes minimal effort to spend time with his son, but not Josie. Not one to laud nuclear familial structure and all that jazz, but still... quite strange.

Yes, I gathered that. The point I was making was that it was bad enough that his father parades his blonde trophy girlfriend 'round and rarely sees his own flesh and blood, but worse still, is that the daughter adopted or not, will most probably grow up feeling less special/ cared for, simply by virtue of being further excluded from the father's limited scope and span of attention. This episode always makes me sad.

They're all entertaining, I was only saying that when one actually dissects the dialogue, one finds something of the melancholy in the characters, whether it's how pathetic McGuirk is or how precocious yet underappreciated Brendon is or self-consciously low Paula always feels. To be sure there is plenty of humour injected in between, and it never fails to make me laugh. All the same, subtext is subtext.

I think Josie was probably adopted after Brendon's dad left because she is still a baby and the Dad left when Brendon was five, he's eight now, so Josie must have been adopted afterwards. Besides, you are right though, Mc.Gurik gives a little more attention to Josie then the Dad does.
