Actually I liked this set and the new theme. Didn't care too much for the way the bonus jackpot was determined though.
Chuck said one time, that Scrabble had the most expensive set ever built for a game show. The 1980's set may be eye appealing for the viewers, but certainly not what you wanted in 1993 if you were a producer. Game Shows were dying in 1993, and you had to save money where ever you could, which may have been the reason they had new rules for the bonus round and a new set.
ya they pretty much slopped this together too fast, look how cheap the set looks and some of the graphics, sad isnt it :-( but then the neon boards on the sides made it thru...
Is was to save on budget, of course the original board used for the sprint rounds was only seen on camera as the set revolved before commercial after the format changes had one player on stage during the sprint, meaning we at home only saw computer graphics. I guess they decided it wasn't worth the trouble to rebuild it.
2.5 seconds doesn't give you much time to guess a 7 letter word in Scrabble Sprint. You're lucky if 1 letter makes it on the board.

Oh my God! I was trying to find this show for the longest! I couldn't think of the name, but I knew Chuck hosted it. Thanks for posting!
