State "Slave Codes" prohibited slaves from owning guns. After President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolishing slavery was adopted and the Civil War ended in 1865, States persisted in prohibiting blacks.

When William C. Church and George W. Wingate founded the NRA in 1871, it wasn't to lobby against gun control and fight for the Second Amendment. Church, a former reporter for a newspaper not exactly known for its support of gun rights, the New York Times, said the goal was to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis.
It had nothing to do with the klan. And in fact the NRA didn't even care about gun rights originally.

This is just one of the reasons I hate America. No country is perfect and many need to look at them selves. This video is filled with so many inaccuracies. Even some prominent historians amongst the liberals would agree on the inaccuracies of this video. The pilgrims didn't exterminate all the Native Americans, Illnesses killed off an estimated 90%. And slavery did not make the United States the richest country in the world. The United States emerged as an economic power close to the turn of the 19th century, long after slavery was abolished.

And while disease destroyed the indigenous populations in the Americas, there was savagery on the part of the Europeans. Read Howard Zinn, John Henrik Clarke, or Ivan Van Sertima.

Um, slaves were sold to white people by other africans and arab slavers. Slavery of all races, not just blacks, has been around since the dawn of man. It still is practiced today. Even after metal cartridges were invented, few people used them due to their high cost. Most Civil War guns were black powder and musket balls.
