Infinity Ward purposely set up respawn so that after you kill someone in a ffa game they respawn in one of the many spawns around you so they can have a chance at getting revenge or killing a possible kill streak. The reason behind that is to create a challenge. If you don't constantly watch your back or know how the spawns work on each map FFA could be a pain in the ass.
