@kabookiejoe: UW's debut promo on Hulk on the 8/17/98 Nitro was half-decent and half-terrible. The decent half featured UW telling Hulk that Hulk thought he could reach the same heights of popularity in WCW that he had in the WWF and he became frustrated when he couldn't do so Hulkamania became boring to him, leading to Hulk going NWO. Hulk was standing with the Disciple (Brutus Beefcake) and Eric Bischoff. UW pointed to the Disciple and said, "This dude must be your barber!"
@wickedklown14: All the guys he named debuted prior to the Attitude Era (HBK in 1988, UT in 1990, HHH and Austin in 1995.) I just think he has a rather skewed view.
If Paul ever gets back together with the Undertaker, they need to do another Funeral Parlor on Retro RAW and dump John Cena in a casket or something. If that doesn't boost their ratings, then I don't know what will!
In the last 19 years it seams Paul Bearer has been much more successful in maintaining his physique than the Ultimate Warrior . I must write to him to and beg him for his training secrets.
I remember watching this as a kid and thinking "My favorite wrestler is almost dead!!" Now I'm like, "How did I believe this shit?" Ultimate Warrior FTW!
The Warrior stunk. Period. Pumped-up, yes, great physique, yes, but he sucked ass in the ring - only reason he ever looked any good at all is because other guys worked so hard and so well to make him look good - Rude, Perfect, DiBiase, 'Taker, Savage - hell, even Hogan ( who also sucked ass in the ring, generally speaking ) when they fought, made Warrior look like a million bucks! Know why Warrior never stuck around? 'Cause he sucked but still wanted more $ than he was worth and McMahon KNEW it!
The idiot announcers complaining about them going too slowly in opening the casket ought to have gotten off their lazy asses and helped!!! Two presumably strong wrestlers with more strength then the "officials" have. Oh what a "Macho" display by those so-called heroic bozos.
@gt1kidd, I loved it, too! What counted most was making the dimwit Warrior look extremely weak and helpless within the clutches of the stronger, taller, younger, and generally superior Undertaker. “Mr. Warrior” needed to be stuffed in a casket.
Did anyone else listen how Macho Man changed his tune lol. At 1st macho was all for the warrior getting stuffed in the casket, then reliezed that warrior had no air and wasnt getting out. Macho man went from heel announcer to baby face announcer in just 10 mins lol. Gotta love the good old days of WWF
they need to use john cena better, if he is an 80s throwback then he should get bad guys guys over to be his friend and tag with em like hogan did with bossman for instance
Paul Bearer was such a bad ass. He never got enough credit for the Undertaker. He sold that gimmick with his mic work as well as the Undertaker did himself when he began to speak.
that was nice.. wrestling was way better back in the day and Paul Bearer used to scared me everytime i see him. I was 10 years old and I couldn't hear his micky mouse voice lol!!
WrestleMania VII got moved because Sgt. Slaughter WAS VERY UNPOPULAR as the WWF Champion! He was getting death threats left and right! Hell, check out when he won the title @ Royal Rumble '91, security (a WHOLE LOT OF 'EM) WAS IN THE AISLE as he went back to the dressing room.
@LuckySaturn Wrestlemania 7 was on March 24, 1991. So yes, this interview was after that match at Wrestlemania. A very disappointing Wrestlemania. It was suppose to be at the Los Angeles Coliseum but for some reason that didnt happen.
I remember this, they pulled the same trick on Hogan too - i cant remember if it was before or after this incident. They didnt shove Hogan in the coffin, just duffed him up good and proper.
The Taker was the ultimate bouncer to eject such a dumb-dumb like that idiot Warrior, whom I shall not call Ultimate unless we compare him to a regular guy.
Had the Warrior truly been ultimate, he'd have been able to man-handle Taker, but clearly it was the other way around. He was such a weakling in this segment.
Talk about a good storyline! Putting the Ultimate Dimwit in a casket was exactly what the doctor ordered. As I could have guessed, Vince was overacting at all the most dramtic moments. Why is it that he has so much trouble getting along with the wrestlers? They cannot all be troublemakers! He has taken advantage of so many of them, mostly in the name of money. Guys get fired, and I am sure they find no further employment. Vince loves destroying careers. Where else can wrestlers get jobs?
Of course,Vinnie Mac was only metaphorically trying to bury the Ultimate Warrior here!Ultimate Warrior vs.Undertaker would have been a sure SummerSlam money maker if only it happened!
It is not always easy to know what is just a crazy storyline and what is part of backstage politics. I feel that Vinnie Mac wants to keep that much a secret. You do have a point about setting up the good money-making matches. It is the kind of thing that would have "the boys" going out for drinks... but only in a private bar.
What didn't make sense to me either was why Warrior was teamed up with Hogan in a handicapped tag match with Sgt.Slaughter,General Adnan, and Col.Mustafa(Iron Sheik) at SummerSlam when he had just started a program with Jake "The Snake"Roberts.
I think Vince just had a tendency to want to cram in so much action at one time. The handicap match ended up looking like Warrior would leave handicapped.
@landrykkb Certainly will be forever known as the one that got away, as it was all that Undertaker got at SS91 was an appearance at Macho's wedding reception
@Moss235 Everything had obviously happened for a reason and worked out fornthe best in Mark Callaway(Undertaker)'s career, but one would have naturally though that the Undertaker should have had least had a squash match on that SummerSlam '91 card.
The Hammer vs. I.R.S. served no purpose at all other than to maybe get I.R.S. over more as a heel. The Hammer had been a jobber to the stars at this point in his career,as he would later become in WCW.
@landrykkb umm but IRS was a very mediocre star, his greatest success came as Ted Dibiase's(legend) tag team partner, I think The Hammer did job to Taker once in late 1991 as for the SS91 match, it was a bit of a waste of time really, could have easily been a dark match
I.R.S.(Mike Rotundo)' greatest success did indeed come as one half of the WWF Tag Team Champions with Ted DiBiase, not counting the 2 times he was co-champion with Barry Windham either because as far as Vince's primarily mark audience was concerned,Mike Rotundo never existed.
I thought he retired. Anyway, he was a tough costumer but looked super weak in this video once the Taker attacked him.
Vince did seem convinced that Warrior was scared to enter the ring with Undertaker. I liked how he said, "you can't blame him for that," after Paul Bearer insisted that the Warrior was too scared to face Undertaker.
@sandinyourshoes bouncers, MMA, other professions that require strength and muscle and intimidation, many wrestlers also have hidden talents and are actually smart , Like Kane, Ventura, warrior, etc..

haha i was also 8 when this came out. its the best. i think a lot of us liked the undertaker even back then. he was something new. bearer is nuts. excellent. jake's appearance at the parlor is one of the greatest moments in wrestling history.
Hell yeah I was 6 or 7 at the time. it really creeped me out. that's what made it a classic. I remember all of that. Even when Jake The Snake helped Warrior and all that. Lead up to WrestleMania 8. Wish I can go back in time.

old school undertaker equals one of the greatest gimmicks ever!

I agree. It counts most when Undertaker is stuffing Warrior into the casket, which was where he belonged.

'Get it open somehow.....'*"Hes not even hitting the side of the casket that counts"* LMAO that made me laugh...

haha i was also 8 when this came out. its the best. i think a lot of us liked the undertaker even back then. he was something new. bearer is nuts. excellent. jake's appearance at the parlor is one of the greatest moments in wrestling history.

Hell yeah I was 6 or 7 at the time. it really creeped me out. that's what made it a classic. I remember all of that. Even when Jake The Snake helped Warrior and all that. Lead up to WrestleMania 8. Wish I can go back in time.
