  • 'mutlicultural diversity' - why does that statement sound so f**king patronising. This is pretty much going to lead to more segregation, especially amongst the muslims that we are all so keen on.

  • With all due respect, this is very unlikely to help prevent some politically motivated religious hypocrites from keep on pushing their masked agendas in pursuit for profit and power which in the end will erode any principle of a true and transparent democracy and civil liberties such as freedom of expression and freedom from belief/freedom of religion.

  • This mealy mouthed crap about 'community cohesion' makes me want to throw up. This is blatant religious indoctrination which undermines the intellectual autonomy of children. There is no place for this kind of brain washing is a supposed liberal democracy.

  • What propaganda!

    Ban faith schools.

  • @PeteUtonic I went to an independent FREE faith primary school you twat I can tell you it was more academically challenging than the marxist controlled state sink comprehensive system I soon fell trapped into.Where my year 4 work was more challenging then my year 9 work & teachers did not like it if you knew more from them or asked for help. Faith schools (not the fake ones the state control) ensure more discipline and entrust values along with academic rigor. Unlike Comps.

  • @LibertarianUK

You only believe they're values as you they were indoctrinated in you. The quality of general education is irrelevant to the superstition or lack thereof propagated within the institution.

  • @Pete

Most "secular" (they are not secular but marxist) comps are shit & centralized to the state with NC and have crap teaching. Due to their liberal & secularist concepts which have proven (and I have seen) to be a failure. No I only believe in their values because I learnt MORE academically then I did at a shitty bog-standard "atheist" comp. LOL during GCSE we were only asked to read ONE book in two years for the rest we had to write essays from re-made films. Nobody "indoctrinated" me.

  • @LibertarianUK

It's not being religious that makes a school good. What can the bible teach us about teaching methods?! You are committing the fallacy of generalising from the particular, something neither of your schools taught you obviously.

  • @PeteUtonic Your confused. My family werent even church goers (well not after they divorced). My father probally hasn't set foot in a church in 40 years.Don't stereotype people with generalized assumptions.

A key thing that makes independent voluntary-aided faith schools better is the CURRICULUM which isn't centralized from the state (i.e dumbed down). Classes are smaller. Teachers are betters & structure more fitting. Also the trouble-makers are alot easier to get rid of. Thats what counts.

  • state education works so well does it not? Why 1 in 3 11 year olds enter secondary system illiterate due to poor teaching from & 1 in 5 16-19 year olds are functionally illiterate.Look at that system before you criticize others! a lefty middle-class fantasy fixated on the Scandinavian model which is a region socially & economically different to our own. That has a smaller population.they don't have the same snobbery to technical & vocational subjects as the middle-class lefties here have!

  • quality of education is irrelevant? that is the whole point of education!

"brainwashing" faith school before I was 11 taught me about Haikus,Mythology,Literature etc .

All things that became obsolete at a Comprehensive where education is brought to lowest denominator.little grammar & punctuation I know now I learnt from there. If you close down excellent faith schools for "ideological" reasons. It would just be scrapping excellence in the name of "equality" just as Labour did with grammars

  • Well now the education department are trying to say it's not religious discrimination when children who attend faith schools get a free travel pass, and children who do not attend a faith school cannot have one. Honestly they must think we are all stupid !!!

  • I dont want my tax money going to irrational beliefs so ban all goverment funding of these brainwash schools. Seperation between church and state please!

  • @Giles20 So you dont mind your tax money going to failing sink comprehensives that produce more illiterates?

    stupid idiots ban comprehensives.

  • Ever Child matters, but not mine !!!! Why do children who attend faith schools get free travel passes???? My son cannot have one because it is not a faith school he will attend. Surely this is religious discrimination????? so only catholics and muslims can have free travel with buses or taxix, this is simply not fair

  • Agreed. Ban all faith schools to prevent religious discrimination :)

  • Long Live Reason!

  • Banning all faith schools would make life alot easier. Remove Faith from education, dont encourage it!

  • Children should be taught to think for themselves. The UK Gov has begun to wash its hands of responsibility for education other than monitoring standards. This way they can hand over schools, save money and seem to be supporting religious leaders in our multicultrual society.
