Wow, virtual desktop. That must have been around on Windows and Linux for.... 6 years? I work with Windows since v2.4 and NEVER needed it. Tried it some times but uninstalled after testing it for an hour.
There is ALT-TAB for swicthing apps, what do I need virtual screens for? 2 or 3 monitors is a completely other thing and I would buy them if I had spare money. :-) But instead of moving my mouse to a screen edge and clicking on a smaller screen I rather press ALT-TAB once or twice.
I see grey circles between the spaces on the corners. Illusions!
Apple is by far the best out of any competitors. People complain about apple being too pricey but never say anything bad about their products. Apple is pricey but just because of that doesn't mean you should hate apple. Their products are advance and if you have the money then buy apple products.
thank you this was very helpful, i have had os x for a few months now and am finally getting around to educating myself to it's features, thanks again for your time and for sharing this info
I assume you have not used a community supported version of Linux like Ubuntu. The install is streamlined, it comes preloaded with most software alternatives sorted into easy shelves. Any other software like flash comes with a single easy install package, for those who don't rock at computers.
Sure, doing advanced things takes some work, but its not needed.
Microsoft Vista is a lot more complicated to get working, with service packs, and all that junk.
For the last 6 years every year I tested the then "best" linux on my computer. Installation was a pain in the a... My graphics cards never worked in 3D mode, the systems always emulated something slow. I had to install dozends of packets.
Now at last(!) I have Ubuntu on my old notebook. It looks nice and is fast. But guess what? I cannot see any java website apps, although java is installed. They are just empty. So far for Linux for noobs. :-) I do not want to debug my OS, I wanna work with it.
Of course, you have to have the common sense that "if its community built, then it has to be community supported."
Did you seek any help? Google? Ask at UbuntuForms?
Most likely, you did not have compiz installed or its disabled for no 3d. Java, you have to install through the Symatic Package Manager. Package Manager gives you access to all the software you could need, and it allows for even noobyerness in the fact that its a one-stop-shop. You search, you get, no running around for EXE's.
when your using say between six to ten or so spaces is there a noticeable slow down or a sleight slow down? it looked like it was slowing down or choppy but thats probably just the vid

Pretty much anything > linux.
Linux is only good for servers and that's about it.
Don't let the geeks on the internet fool you. Linux is a LONG way off from being a substitute to Windows or mac.

I use Linux all the time, if your not a complete noob, a Linux PC can be significantly more powerful than any other PC/Mac.
Still, Unix based OS are a huge improvement from Windows. Anything is an improvement from Windows, from a technical standpoint.

"if your not a complete noob..."
This is where you're wrong. I assume you are quite techy and knowledgable. But don't assume what comes easy to you comes easy to others.
From a marketing perspective Linux has many years to go before it can be considered useable for everyday use by ordinary people.

Every time they send update for it, something screws up like after I record my videos, when I play them back, the video is flipped horizontally.

SoldierKnowsBest 3 years ago
