Friend of mine lived alone until his late middle age, now has a long term / life partner. Our generation was hopefully the last to suffer government / legal sanctions because they were attracted to the same sex. Most of us never came out to our parents, not through fear, but we did not want to distress them, it being illegal in the UK till ' 67, and socially unacceptable for many years after.
