  • This is indeed real country.

  • Ging back to where he's from--Texas, orale.

  • Excellent- love it. Thanks for the post.

  • @mrac0515 - Saludos desde los EE.UU.! Yo soy un blanco "gabacho", pero yo vivo cerca de México, y hablo español. Ojala me voy a visitar España próximo año. Esta canción fue probablemente lo mas famoso de Johnny Rodríguez en el USA. Siempre me gustó.

  • how beautiful are the songs of this man

  • Yeah, we Mex/Ams are proud of Johnny Rod, I just wish he would'nt be so hard on himself. We all had some things that are hard on the memory. But live goes on and you've done good too. Love your music and you even wrote some great songs. I'm making a list of 10 country songs called "I told you I was leaving". So far #1 is "By the time I get to Phoenix", 2, "Baby's gotten good at goodbyes", 3, "Riding my thumb to Mexico" 4,"Anyone going to SanAntone. That all I got so far, any other suggestion?

  • @satxcxo How about the Los Lonely Boys: Heaven

  • He was such a hotty back then. One of my favorite Mexican-American men.

  • Can someone please post "What'll I tell Virginia"?

  • First song I learned on my guitar and sang all the way through.

  • Desde el otro lado del charco, Valencia-España estoy escuchando esta bonita canción.

  • I don't know, I've gone a long way on my thumb,it wasn't such a bad ride.

  • Listen to this song while driving in my semi truck really makes you think on long lonely highway in this country

  • No voice like his

  • I'd almost forgotten about this great song that Johnny did! Graduated college in '73 and when this came out,I was darn sure tempted to do JUST THAT to get away from a bad relationship, but didn't have the nerve.(thankfully.)

  • He is one of the best country singers ever-I had every one of his albums in the 70's. Wow, what ever happened to all the great singers. Show em how it's done, Johnny! !On top of all that he was so good looking-had a mad crush on him!

  • How old is he & where is he now .I don't believe I have heard any thing about him for years.

  • I remember when i was a very young girl...having a crush on him..

  • Johnnie is one of the sweetest, kindess people ever born. I have known him for over 35 years. He is never to busy for a friend.

  • forgot all about this one great song

  • "Real Country"

  • Johnny's music was very instrumental in the Country Western scene back in the 70's and it is amazing how many artists supported him then and even now!

  • my favorite song from a killer

  • @deputycartman2 The only trouble Johnny got into was stealing a goat and BBQ'ing it... are you referring to him "killing" the goat...???

  • @MrGeoPic no, he shot a man. do a lil more research

  • @sappattack01 I did, and yes he shot a burglar in 1999, so what, what would you do.. I do not consider that a killer, and besides, we will never know what actually happened because the dead man is not talking. I was not there, so in turn I do not care, I will NOT judge another man, you may choose to judge, however, I only like to listen to his music....I am not personally involved with him or care to....Have a great day, and enjoy the music...

  • @MrGeoPic Jus tellin you the FACTS. Johnny is an overlooked ICON. Shoot a man in Texas and get away with it? That makes him that much better.

  • GREAT SONG

  • can you post "What'll I tell Virginia", please?

  • Howdy Wiblur

great song by a great artist

    thanks for posting

    have a great weekend

    Rich

  • Garner State Park He wrote that song and in 70 I went into the Army and herd it on a tape my mom had sent me to Korea, Johny was on his way. Met him again in Ft Bragg north Carolina and the next year in Germany on a USO tour, He was great . Through the years we spent a lot of time together and I know Johny. If some one was braking into my home I would have done the same. Johnny is a good man and I still love the memorys and his music. Sing on Brother!

  • Johnny's going to be at the Festival of the West, at Westworld in Scottsdale on Sunday March 20 along with Michael Martin Murphy (Wildfire), Lynn Anderson (I Never Promised You A Rose Garden). Larry Gatlin (

All The Gold) and Josh Gracin (American Idol) are Friday the 18.

  • My parents used to listen to "Old Country". It's always been a favorite.

  • I'm 17, a metalhead, and I don't even listen to country. Yet sometimes when I'm feeling like shit or left out (which is a lot) I'll pull this record out, pop it in to the record player, and just bawl my eyes out until I've run out of water in my body. Not because I'm some sort of pussy, but because this song touches me so damn good.

  • @TheSuperWannabe - You know Son, if more men would admit to feeling like human beings and spend less time acting like they're some kind of badass, the world would be a much happier place. I admire you for lettin your feelings out. Take it from an old man, when I tell you its worth it to just be yourself.

  • @aircraftbuilder Thanks for that support. I just wish I had the courage to crack my emotional shell open with people I know than the youtube community. But I don't really have anybody that close, and I don't think I could trust them. Anyway, I'm just glad somebody else out there sees it my way. I've listened to this song all weekend long going to and coming from a track meet a long way from where I live. The song melded very well with the Texas brush we rode along.

  • Damn Good!

  • WAS LISTENING TO THIS WHEN IT WASNT COOL....

  • You know all the shit now doesn't hold a candle to this.

  • What just a beautiful song sung by Johnny Rodriuguez. Sung it so nice and slowly with nice music. Just to listen to!

  • I totally forgot about this song..I used to love it. Thanx for posting !!

  • i loved all of his songs. he is one of the best country singers that ever was.

  • I wish country music would lead me to a shining Christian woman of eternal love.

  • A great song by a great singer about a more magicial time. This is about a time

when you could walk and "ride" feeling free. Johnny is one that will be remembered

long after these new artists have gone.

  • Love all of Johnny's songs but one in particular ' We're Over' . Can't find it anywhere on youtube. Anyone direct me to it?

  • Ridin' My Thumb To Mexico

  • Always loved Johnny's voice and he was a hotty in his younger days. This is my favorite of his. Thanks for posting.

  • Two things that are too dangerous to do nowadays: Hitchhiking and visiting Mexico.

  • @anchovysardine so right. i traveled in MEXICO from 60's to 80's. there are some beautiful places there. so sad , i do not go anymore.

  • Johnny Rodriguez sang straight from the heart. Great voice, great song...thank you for the post!

  • Thanks for posting, I love this song!

  • One of my all time favorites. Thanks for the post.

  • Love this song. One of the first songs I learned to play "lead" on. All these years later the song hold up. What's really interesting is that the song is only 2:05. A short intro into the first verse, chorous then a 2nd verse that is only half as long as the first verse, another chorous, a short exit and it's over. No third verse, no bridge, no solo. A very efficient song. Thanks for the post!

  • That was the doorway into country music listening that hooked me, and my favorite of the time.

  • My favorite!Thanks for adding

  • He's going back into the studio.

  • great dancing song!

  • Helst SANNLÖST bra!!......VERY GOOD!! 5 *

  • Oh yeah, I always liked this one!

  • @uncletomthall Back in the 70s, this was real music! These songs came from the heart, not from a big record company. When everyone else was listening to Pink Floyd and other stoner classic rock crap, I was listening to Johnny Rodriguez and Tom T. Hall. Pink Floyd is and will always be self-indulgent mass-produced stoner rock garbage. Pink Floyd fans are the worst, they get defensive because they know they're nerds. Pink Floyd's music is not pleasing to the ear; it sounds like crap!
